Filter by:This study will evaluate a new form of non-invasive deep brain therapy for food addiction. Low-intensity transcranial focused ultrasound stimulation will first be delivered using a range of stimulation parameters during psychophysical and physiological monitoring. A well-tolerated stimulation protocol will be selected for subsequent testing in a blinded randomized sham-controlled trial. The trial will evaluate brain target engagement using magnetic resonance imaging, Food Cravings Questionnaire-State, and changes in subject's weight over the course of the study.
The goal of this intervention study is to evaluate the efficacy in subjects with overweight or obesity of protein bars consumption. The main questions it aims to answer are: - Does the regular consumption of these protein bars help to loose weight? - Does the regular consumption of these protein bars help to improve the osteoarticular health? Participants will be asked to follow the indications of consumption of the bars togather with healthy nutritional advice during 16 weeks. Researchers will compare exparimental Versus placebo groups to see if weight is lost in similar or different ways.

The aim of the trial is as follows: - To assess the effect of multiple subcutaneous injections of JY09 injection on the pharmacokinetic (PK) profile of multiple oral doses of metformin hydrochloride tablets, a single oral dose of Rosuvastatin calcium tablets, or digoxin tablets in overweight Chinese subjects; - To assess the effect of multiple subcutaneous injections of JY09 injection on QT interval in overweight Chinese subjects.
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of mobile health nutrition education intervention in the changing of dietary habits and body composition of overweight and obese 8-12 years old children in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates and to compare its effectiveness to paper educational intervention among the same age group. The main questions it aims to answer are: 1. Are there any significant changes in dietary habits, physical activity and body composition among overweight and obese school-age children after three months of mobile health intervention? 2. Is there any significant difference between the effect of smart phone delivered and paper delivered interventions (changes in dietary habits, physical activity and body composition) among overweight and obese school-age children after three months of interventions? 3. Are there any significant changes in the obesity inflammatory panel among overweight and obese school-age children after three months of mobile health intervention? 4. Is there any significant difference in the sustainability of the outcomes between mobile health and paper delivered interventions among overweight and obese school-age children two months after the end of the intervention? 5. Are there any significant changes in nutrition related knowledge among parents of overweight and obese school-age children after three months of intervention? Participants (children with their parents) will be randomly divided into intervention group and control group. Parents of children from the intervention group will receive two text messages/graphics per week about healthy eating and physical activity (PA) on their mobile phones during the intervention period (3 months). While parents in the control group will receive a one-time printed handout containing the same messages at the beginning of the intervention period. Assessment of children's anthropometry, dietary intake and physical activity will be evaluated pre and post intervention and one more time after a two months period of maintenance after the end of the intervention. Parents' nutrition knowledge will be evaluated pre and post intervention only. Also, children salivary obesity markers will be measured at baseline and at the end of the intervention period to explore the effects of the intervention on inflammatory markers associated with obesity.
Numerous evidences suggest an important role of short-chain fatty acids, produced by the intestinal fermentation of dietary fibers by the intestinal microbiota, in the modulation of various biological functions relevant to human health. In particular, butyrate, in addition to its trophic action on enterocytes, could improve insulin sensitivity and increase GLP-1 secretion, suggesting a possible role in the modulation of glucose metabolism. However, to date, very few randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have observed a significant increase in plasma butyrate concentrations in humans after nutritional interventions with high-fiber diets or foods. Butyrate occurs naturally in some foods, such as milk and dairy products, where it is often associated with sodium, becoming sodium butyrate. Therefore, recent studies suggest the use of oral sodium butyrate supplements in order to obtain a significant increase in butyrate plasma concentrations able to exert the potential beneficial effects related to them. To date, few studies have investigated the effect of oral sodium butyrate supplementation on glucose metabolism in healthy or overweight individuals, individuals at high cardiometabolic risk, and individuals with type 2 diabetes. Therefore, the purpose of this pilot study is to evaluate the effects of oral sodium butyrate supplementation, versus placebo, on glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity in a group of overweight/obese individuals and the mechanisms underlying these effects.
The goal of the Self-monitoring With Internet Technology to Choose Healthy Diets (SWITCH) study is to examine a 12-week remotely delivered program designed to help adults adopt a healthy dietary lifestyle and lose weight in a diverse cohort of adults with overweight/obesity. The intervention uses a self-determination theory framework to provide a deeper understanding of the factors that influence dietary behavior within the context of tracking. This study incorporates autonomy-supportive strategies to encourage participants to feel more in control of their dietary choices and will provide information and resources to boost participant's competence in achieving their dietary goals. The intervention includes weekly learning modules to support healthy eating and weight loss and daily dietary tracking with visual feedback, all accessible within the SWITCH app.
This project capitalizes on principles of control systems engineering to build a dynamical model that predicts weight change during weight loss maintenance using behavioral, psychosocial, and environmental indicators evaluated in a system identification experiment. A 6-month behavioral obesity treatment will be administered to produce weight loss. Participants losing at least 3% of initial body weight will be followed for an additional 12 months via daily smartphone surveys that incorporates passive sensing to objectively monitor key behaviors. Survey data pertaining to behavioral, psychosocial, and environmental indicators will be used to develop a controller algorithm that can predict when an individual is entering a heightened period of risk for regain and why risk is elevated. Interventions targeting key risk indicators will be randomly administered during the system ID experiment. Survey and passive sensing data documenting the effects of the interventions will likewise drive development of the controller algorithm, allowing it to determine which interventions are most likely to counter risk of regain.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist semaglutide on disordered eating behaviour in patients with overweight and type 2 diabetes. The investigators will also evaluate serum concentrations of incretin hormones GLP-1 and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), as well as glucose variability using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) devices before and after semaglutide, and determine his influence on eating disorders. In this prospective study the investigators aim to recruit 60 patients with type 2 diabetes and randomize them based on the presence of a disordered eating behaviour diagnosed by a validated questionnaire (1:1). Patients with a disordered eating behaviour will further be randomized (1:1) to receive semaglutide. At baseline and after 12 weeks of semaglutide therapy, the investigators will reevaluate glucose variability over 14 days using a continuous glucose monitoring device (CGM). With this study the investigators will determine the impact of GLP-1 receptor agonist semaglutide on disordered eating behaviour in patients with overweight and type 2 diabetes. This study will contribute to the knowledge about the role of incretin hormones and glucose variability in eating disorders in this population of patients.
The goal of this study is to collect more information from people with plaque psoriasis and to determine if insulin plays a role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis. The main question it aims to answer is if insulin action is preserved or even enhanced in psoriatic lesions despite insulin resistance elsewhere. Participants with plaque psoriasis will have punch biopsies taken of lesional and non-lesional skin after an overnight fast and then during an oral glucose tolerance test. Biopsy specimens will then be assessed for markers of insulin action.
