Osteoarthritis is the most common musculoskeletal disease and is characterized by cartilage destruction, osteophyte formation, subchondral bone sclerosis and cysts. Modern treatment strategies, as well as preventive measures, include early detection and knowledge of the early course of the disease. This includes how stress patterns, physical activity, impaired function and metabolic changes and other comorbidities affect development and possible associations with osteoarthritis. The overall objective was to study the early development of osteoarthritis of the knee and its association with hand- and general osteoarthritis, metabolic diseases, biomarkers, long-term pain, physical function and stress patterns

Exploratory Study on Safety of PEEK Knee Prosthesis

In this study, 10 subjects will be underwent total knee arthroplasty with PEEK knee prosthesis and be followed up 3, 6, and 12 months after surgery. The safety of the knee prosthesis for total knee arthroplasty will be investigated based on X-ray, magnetic resonance imaging, thin-section CT, hematological indexes, knee function, complications and the occurrence of serious adverse events at the 12-month follow-up.

Assessment With Gait Analysis of Robotic Total Knee Arthroplasty Using Inverse Kinematic Alignment

Postoperative function and patient satisfaction are becoming increasingly relevant in patients after knee arthroplasty surgery. Despite adequate preoperative planning, improved surgical techniques and rehabilitation protocols, only 75%-85% of patients seems satisfied after TKA procedurs. Implant positioning and component alignment are determining factors in patient outcome. Currently, different alignment strategies in TKA surgery are used such as Mechanical Alignment (MA) and Kinematical Alignment (KA). Recently, a new and individualized alignment strategy (inverse Kinematic Alignment/iKA) was introduced. Preliminary 1-year results of iKA are promising, however, clinical and functional outcome on the medium and longterm should be investigated. This project aims to compare patients with iKA TKA with MA TKA on clinical, functional and biomechanical outcomes.

Study for Rural Innovations in the Delivery of Exercise

: Falls are the primary cause of injury and a leading cause of disability and mortality among older adults. Risk factors for falling are common among older adults with knee osteoarthritis (OA) - a highly prevalent condition. Physical exercise is consistently the most efficacious intervention for preventing falls in older adults. However, access to these programs is severely limited in rural settings. Considering that rural communities have a higher disease burden and higher proportion of older adults than non-rural areas, there is a critical need to (1) adapt evidence-based exercise programs for remote delivery to increase access for rural older adults and (2) develop pathways to implement exercise programs in rural health care systems that consistently reach and engage patients with knee OA. Accordingly, the proposed project aims to refine a protocol for remote delivery of Enhance Fitness (EF). EF is an evidence-based, group exercise program involving strength, endurance, and balance training that is recommended for falls prevention and OA management
