Influence of Manual Physical Therapy on Habitual Activity in Knee Osteoarthritis

Start date: January 5, 2018
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The investigators assessed overall physical activity and sleep quality in subjects with knee osteoarthritis(OA) at baseline, and at four and 12 weeks following initiation of physical therapy. Subjects received a course of manual physical therapy with interventions targeted to relevant impairments in the lower quarter. No progressive activity intervention or guidance on sleep hygiene was included. The purpose of this study was to assess a relationship between manual physical therapy and habitual physical activity and sleep behavior in individuals with knee OA.

Staged Versus Simultaneous Bilateral Knee Arthroplasty

Start date: March 19, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to assist surgeons and patients in answering the question "Should I have both knees replaced at the same time, or should I just do one and wait to do the second one?"

NCT ID: NCT03563131 Active, not recruiting - Clinical trials for Osteo Arthritis Knee

Tibial and Femoral Components Migration and Adaptive Bone Remodeling After Insertion of Persona® TKA

Start date: August 1, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study: In a prospective randomized study with 2 years of follow-up we want to compare the migration of the uncemented trabecular metal (TM) versus the cemented tibial and femoral components of the new Persona® total knee arthroplasty (TKA) assessed by model based radiostereometric analysis (MB-RSA). Also, we want to compare the adaptive bone remodeling induced by the uncemented TM versus the cemented tibial and femoral components of the new Persona® TKA assessed by dual energy-X-ray (DEXA). Data generated for both above mentioned, will be also compared with historical RSA and DEXA data for the NexGen TKA using TM tibia modular and monoblock.

Comparison of an Old Versus a New Total Knee Replacement

Start date: May 18, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

A randomized controlled clinical and RSA study, comparing 2 knee implants: 1. NexGen CR cemented total knee arthroplasty 2. Persona CR cemented total knee arthroplasty 3 hospitals will participate in the study: - Helse Bergen HF, Kysthospitalet i Hagavik (KIH) - Helse Førde HF, Lærdal sykehus - Helse Bergen HF, Haukeland universitetssykehus (HUS) 1-3 surgeons in each hospital will perform the operations. There will be 80 patients in the 2 groups; a total of 160 study patients will be included. 30 in each group will be included for RSA. Radiostereometric analysis (RSA) will be used to measure migration and subsidence of components in addition to regular radiographs. 3 different knee scoring systems will be used to evaluate satisfaction and function. An activity monitor will be used to assess real-life physical behavior and walking speed to assess objectively measured mobility. Data from the Norwegian Arthroplasty Register will be used to investigate the risk of revision.

NCT ID: NCT03543800 Active, not recruiting - Clinical trials for Osteoarthritis of the Knee

PRP Treatment of Osteoarthritic Knee With a New Autologous Blood Product (CytoRich)

Start date: February 4, 2015
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study is aimed at evaluating the efficacy and safety of Cytorich compared to platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in alleviating pain and improving function in subjects with knee OA.

Assessment of the Effect of Spa Treatment on Rheumatological Conditions

CONTREXEVILLE
Start date: June 1, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

1. Primary outcome measure: measuring the effect of spa treatment in patients suffering from lower limb osteoarthritis or any other lower limb rheumatological condition. Percentage of patients with minimum 19,9 mm decrease in pain Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) or WOMAC score (Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index) improvement of at least 9 points (minimal clinically important difference), 6 months after enrollment. Secondary outcome measures: 2. Measuring the effect of spa treatment in patients with concomitant chronic lower back pain. Percentage of patients presenting clinical benefits according to the EIFEL score, with a decrease of at least 5 points, 6 months after enrollment. 3. Quantitative evaluation of pain. Mean pain VAS comparison between enrollment and 6 months after spa treatment. 4. Quantitative evaluation of WOMAC score. Mean WOMAC score comparison between enrollment and 6 months after spa treatment. 5. Quantitative evaluation of EIFEL score. Mean EIFEL score comparison between enrollment and 6 months after spa treatment. 6. Impact of spa treatment on the patient's metabolism. Height and weight (BMI calculation), blood pressure and heart rate measured at enrollment and throughout the follow-up. 7. 8. Quality of life. 36-Item Short Form (SF 36) and EuroQol 5 Dimensions (EQ5D) questionnaires at enrollment, 3 months and 6 months. 9. Doctor and patient opinion. Semi-quantitative scale collected at enrollment, 3 months and 6 months. 10. Medicine consumption Daily medicine consumption evaluated upon the 72 hours preceding the medical visit at enrollment, 3 months and 6 months. 11. Auto-evaluation of pain VAS pain evaluation by the patient every 6 weeks for a more precise time frame of the treatment's effect.

GMK-UNI Anatomical UKA: Fixation of Cemented vs Cementless Designs

Start date: February 15, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) is the principal surgical alternative to the total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in patients with end-stage unicompartmental tibiofemoral osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee. The current comparative randomized study aims to evaluate the fixation of cemented and cementless designs of GMK-UNI unicompartmental knee prosthesis over a 5-year time period.

RSA Study of Persona TKA With CR vs MC Polyethylene

Start date: October 1, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The aim of this study is to evaluate, over a 2 year period, the migration pattern, function and the possibility of anatomical reconstruction of a relatively new total knee arthroplasty (TKA) concept, the Persona. Sixty patients will be randomized into 2 groups of 30 patients each, with one group receiving the Persona TKA with a conventional Cruciate Retaining (CR) polyethylene articular surface and the other group with a newly developed Medial Congruent (MC) articular surface. Patients will be followed up with Radiostereometry (RSA), conventional radiography, outcome questionnaires, clinical evaluation and Computer Tomography (CT). The migration pattern of the components will be evaluated as well as the degree of anatomical reconstruction and clinical result. We plan also to do a 5 year follow-up of the patients with RSA and PROMS.

NCT ID: NCT03472300 Active, not recruiting - Pain Clinical Trials

Prevalence of Self-disclosed Knee Trouble and Use of Treatments Among Elderly Individuals

Start date: September 5, 2018
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Although knee pain is prevalent among community-dwelling older adults, little is known about how people in general handle their pain. We will conduct a survey to explore how knee pain affects people's lives and which treatments or self-management strategies they have chosen (or are being offered), and how these interact concerning pain reduction and maintenance of function.
