Impact of the Use of New Complete Denture on the Oral Health Related to Quality of Life (OHRQoL)

The aim of this project was to evaluate the impact before and after (3, 6, 9, and 12 months) of oral rehabilitation with conventionalof the insertion of new complete dentures (CD) in the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in total edentulous patients compared to dentate individuals. This is a clinical trial study approved by the Research Ethics Committee (nº 31105714.7.0000.5626 ) which was conducted on 122 patients who attended the clinics of Federal Fluminense University, with the necessity of CD. The eligibility criteria were: healthy patients without disabilities; aged up to 50 years; complete upper and or lower jaw edentulism for a minimum 5 years; the presence of adequate healthy tissue to support the prosthesis; adequate cognitive ability and understanding to respond to the questions posed. It will be excluded patient with motor disabilities, cognitive impairment and people with special needs. After the installation of the CD a follow-up of one week, three, six, nine, twelve and eighteen months will be performed. The Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-Edent) instrument will be applied (in form of an interview) to evaluate the impact of CD on OHRQoL. The scores of the OHIP-Edent index will be calculated using the additive method, summing the numeric response codes for each item. Shapiro-Wilk test revealed nonparametric distribution of data. Chi-square, Mann-Whitney U, and Kruskal-Wallis tests were performed for comparing groups according to sociodemographic data. Kruskal-Wallis test was per- formed for comparing groups and treatments throughout time. A significance level of 5% was adopted, and all analyses were performed on Statistical Analysis System (SAS) version 9.3 software. The responsiveness was assessed by analyzing the change of the scores on the scales and subscales. The changes was calculated by subtracting the post-treatment scores from the before-treatment scores. Positive change scores will indicate an improvement in OHRQoL, while negative scores will indicate deterioration.

- Steps in short: Undergoing the conventional steps of maxillary single denture construction till the step of framework construction that will be designed and constructed using CAD/CAM after optical scanning of the master cast ( 2 frameworks to cover the palate and crest of the ridge : one made of titanium and the other made of cobalt/chromium) then conventional steps will be undergone including bite, Try-in and delivery ending by measuring the denture retention. - Number of visits & follow up period : Visits: will be 5-6 visits for each patient. Follow up period: 6.5 months (immediately post-insertion then after 1 week then after 3 months for the first type then 2 weeks washout period and the same for the second type)

On of the main fixed prosthetic options of completely edentulous patients is the screw-retained implant supported prosthesis which was constructed on transmucosal abutments with its encountered problems such as: hardness to make it passively seated with multiple screw fracture and loosening problems and multiple encountered veneer material fracture and so there effect on patient satisfaction with multiple maintenance recalls.so, the investigators want to try a new technique of fabrication which was proposed for reducing the problems of lack of passivity which is the intraoral luting cement technique on titanium bases with reduced screw number but, with luting cement problems as de-cementation and cement biological effects on soft tissues and bone and there effect on number of patient recall visits and maintenance and so there effect on patient satisfaction

In Vivo Assessment of Natural Tooth Color After Orthognathic Surgery. A Pilot Controlled Clinical Trial

In six consecutive patients planned to receive combined orthodontic-orthognathic surgery natural tooth color on 8 incisors was measured before initiation of the combined treatment (Time Point 1- baseline) and after its completion (Time Point 2- after intervention). The statistical interpretation of the results showed that tooth color change in the surgical group was higher in comparison to control groups. Control group I included non treatment subjects, while control group II included standard orthodontic treatment subjects. The results indicated that orthognathic surgery may affect natural tooth color but to small degree, as the color differences were just bellow the threshold value of 3.7 ΔΕ units. Under this value a color change cannot be easily detected by a human eye.
