Filter by:The ECoWeB Project aims to develop and disseminate a mobile application (App) to provide engaging and personalized tools and psychological skills to promote emotional wellbeing and prevent mental health problems in adolescents and young adults. The project team involves 8 European nations (the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Greece, the Czech Republic, Denmark, and Switzerland) working together in order to improve mental health care and access for adolescents and young adults: - To use technology as a tool to assess and promote emotional well-being. - To deliver empirically supported psychological interventions through a smart phone application to address the needs of adolescents and young adults. - To improve mental well-being and prevent mental health problems in European adolescents and young adults. The ECoWeb project will consist of 2 RCT's within a longitudinal prospective cohort called ECoWeB-PROMOTE (indicating PROMOTION of well-being and good mental health) and ECoWeB-PREVENT (indicating PREVENTION of general distress, poor mental health and emotional disorders) respectively. These trials share the same recruitment procedure, interventions, outcomes (including self-report measures of well-being, anxiety, and depression) and design. Both are interested in the promotion of well-being and the prevention of general poor mental health in young people. The key difference is whether the participants are deemed to be at higher or lower risk criteria for poor mental health based on their general emotional competence skills, i.e., for those at low risk, do the interventions further enhance well-being, for those at higher risk, do the interventions prevent the worsening of poor mental health, general stress and distress, as well as enhancing well-being. In all cases the recruitment procedure will be the same, but the inclusion and exclusion criteria are different and the primary outcome measures are different hence they are 2 trials, rather than one, all running within the same cohort.
Unhealthy alcohol use among women with and at risk for HIV can interrupt critical steps in the HIV prevention and care continuum, is associated with HIV transmission risk behaviors, and contributes to health disparities. Thus it is critical to accurately identify alcohol use and implement alcohol interventions among women with and at risk for HIV to optimize health outcomes. The proposed pilot study will examine the implementation and effects of a computer delivered brief alcohol intervention with peer navigation/Community Health Worker compared to usual care on alcohol use, linkage to health services, and uptake of HIV prevention practices.
This will be an observational study looking at clinical and biomarker characteristics in patients with Parkinson's Disease (PD), Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), Rapid Eye Movement Sleep Behavior Disorder (RBD), Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus and matched controls. Saliva, plasma, serum, urine, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples will be collected from participants.
The main objective of this project is to analyze whether EMDR therapy, as an adjuvant to usual treatment, is effective in reducing post-traumatic stress and psychotic/affective symptoms in patients with a FEP and comorbid psychological trauma associated with first hospital admission and / or previous stressful life event.
Adolescence is a period of many physical, mental, emotional, and social changes. It is also associated with risk behaviour conducts. Nonetheless, not all youths under disadvantage, adversity, or exposure to risk factors experience negative mental health outcomes. The concept of RESILIENCE provides one possible explanation for the ability of some individuals to maintain positive mental health. Resilience is thus the ability of an individual or community to adapt to life challenges or adversities while maintaining mental health and well-being. The increasing prevalence of mental disorders amongst children (around 10-20% of young people) makes positive mental health promotion in schools necessary through intervention programmes. UPRIGHT (Universal Preventive Resilience Intervention Globally implemented in schools to improve and promote mental Health for Teenagers) is a research and innovation project funded by the European Union´s Horizon 2020 programme (No. 754919). UPRIGHT general aim is to promote mental well-being and prevent mental disorders in youth by enhancing resilience capacities. It has been designed as a whole school approach addressing early adolescents, their families and the school community to finally create a real mental well-being culture at schools.
This pilot study will test whether depression symptoms and cognitive functioning are impacted by internet-delivered mindfulness training following the principles of mindfulness meditation. The population is adults ages 65+ experiencing a current major depressive episode. Participants will receive an approximate 10-week instruction in mindfulness meditation, provided remotely through internet. Outcomes are depressive symptoms, assessed via clinical interview and self-report, and cognitive function, assessed via smartphone-delivered cognitive tests and surveys. The total duration of participation is approximately 18 weeks.
The NASCITA study (NAscere e creSCere in ITAlia) was created to improve the understanding of the health status of Italian children early on and how it is affected by social and health determinants. The study will evaluate physical, cognitive, and psychological development, and health status and health resource use during the first six years of life in a group of newborns, as well as potential associated factors. The association between the well-being of children and parental adherence to the recommendations for better child care and development will also be assessed. Information on the children will be collected by paediatricians mostly during routine visits. The findings will be used in the development of specific prevention measures and interventions to improve the health of children, in particular more vulnerable ones.
A single-blinded hybrid effectiveness-implementation trial (Type II), that both evaluates the intervention outcomes (clinical and service use outcomes) through patient-randomization in the implementation sites, as well as evaluates the implementation strategy chosen for the intervention and its impact on implementation outcomes (e.g. adoption, fidelity, acceptability and maintenance (continued implementation) of the intervention).

Children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental conditions are 3 to 5 times more likely than their peers to have other mental disorders such as anxiety, depression and disruptive behaviour. Furthermore, these conditions are less likely to be recognized, diagnosed and treated than for typically developing children. Parent training is a well-established approach to help parents change their behaviour and communication with their children with the goal of improving child behaviours. Parent-focused programs that are designed for typically developing children have shown mixed results for children with neurodevelopmental conditions and parents have reported significant challenges in accessing traditional health services due to barriers to care. There is an urgent need to explore how effective distance-delivered parenting programs can be implemented in real-world settings and how they should be adapted to meet the needs of families with children with neurodevelopmental conditions. The goal of this research project is to develop and test the effectiveness of two versions (group coaching & self-managed) of an online parenting program for managing challenging behaviours in children with neurodevelopmental disabilities. The Strongest Families Neurodevelopmental program is based on the well-established Strongest Families Parenting program for typically developing children with challenging behaviours, adapted with substantial involvement from a pan-Canadian Parent Advisory Committee. The program consists of 11 skill-based sessions with demonstration videos, audio clips, exercises, a resource webpage and a Parent-to-Parent online group (a closed Facebook group).
