"The Show Must go on" : The Experience of Injuries Among Dancers: Fears, Thoughts, and Beliefs. A Qualitative Study

This qualitative, cross-sectional study aims at describing the experience of Italian dancers with injury. Dancers face a high risk of sustaining one or more injuries during their career (87-94%), which may lead to physical, psychological, and socioeconomic consequences affecting dancer's lives and careers both short and long-term. Dancers report fearing injury and its consequences and believing in the existence of a stigma around injury and injured colleagues; many of them also try to self-manage pain and delay reporting injuries to healthcare professionals, possibly making its outcomes worse. This study will collect data from dancers via focus groups and individual interviews, investigating dancers' experiences, thoughts, and beliefs about injury. Records from the interviews will be transcribed ad verbatim and analyzed using the framework method to synthetize the data and highlight the most meaningful content. Understanding dancers' thoughts and behaviors regarding past or possible future injuries may be beneficial in improving treatment efficacy and designing adequate education and prevention strategies. It may also help raise awareness of dancers' complex and unique needs, and the importance of having accessible, specialized professionals around dance companies and schools.

Incidence of Musculoskeletal Injuries, Sports Performance, Sports Specialization, and Quality of Life in Young Athletes

The primary aim of this observational cohort study is to assess sports specialization, sports performance, history of injuries (prevalence, types, areas, duration) and quality of life in young healthy athletes aged 8-16 from Poland. Athlete profiles will be created based on the variables (explained in detailed description) examined. Furthermore, the investigators will perform one-year injury follow-up. The main questions it aims to answer are: - Do athletes with a specific profile (lower values in athletic performance tests, low values in quality of life) evaluated at one time point, suffer injury in the future in annual observation? - Do athletes with high sports specialization will sustain injury in one-year follow-up? - Does sports specialization have a relationship with sports performance tests, and quality of life? - Does value of the specific muscle (lower limb) isometric strength will be associated with the dynamic balance scores in young healthy athletes?

Upper Extremity Asymmetries in Overhead Athletes

Although overhead sports have different characteristics, the movements in the shoulder and upper extremity are similar. These sports may involve a combination of symmetrical, asymmetrical, bilateral and unilateral movements. In sports involving asymmetric movements, biomechanical changes are observed in that area due to the use of the dominant extremity. One of the reliable methods to reveal the stress effects caused by biomechanical stresses is to determine limb asymmetries. Considering the literature, limb asymmetries may be related to injury and performance.

Relationship Between Knee Valgus and Landing Biomechanics

It has been shown that especially adolescent female athletes have a very high risk of injury compared to males. Gender differences (anatomical, biomechanical, neuromuscular and hormonal differences) contribute to the increased risk of injury. Basketball, one of the sports preferred by adolescent girls, brings with it high risks of injury due to the high participation rate among team sports. The occurrence of lower extremity injuries such as anterior cruciate ligament injuries and patellofemoral pain during dynamic activities (e.g., landing, running, etc.) has been associated with dynamic knee valgus, a pattern of lower extremity malalignment. At the same time, weakness of the core muscles and inadequate ankle dorsiflexion joint range of motion also contribute to the injury. The aim of this study is to examine the correlation between landing biomechanics, core endurance and ankle dorsiflexion angle in adolescent female basketball players with dynamic knee valgus.

Potential Injury Incidents at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022

This is an exploratory observational study. Video footage is used to review all 64 matches in the football tournament. All players actions are registered using the FIFA football language, such as, pass completed, clearance, etc. Potential injury incidents are registered, and for each incident the injury location, contact type, player reaction, velocity, location, game reaction, referee reaction, medical staff on pitch, and outcome (e.g. substitution) are also registered.
