Microbiome Alterations With Xylitol (MAX) in Pregnancy

MAX
Start date: May 1, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to understand if chewing xylitol-gum initiated before 20 weeks of pregnancy and continued until delivery affects the bacteria that are found in the oral and vaginal cavities, signs of inflammation within the gingiva of the oral cavity, the health of the tissues in the mouth (clinical parameters of periodontal disease), and the bacteria in the mouth and gut of newborns among pregnant individuals in Malawi.

NCT ID: NCT05989750 Recruiting - White Spot Lesion Clinical Trials

Air-polishing With Erythritol During Orthodontic Tretament

AirPort
Start date: September 11, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Patients with multi-bracketed fixed orthodontic treatment are at increased risk of developing white spot lesions (WSL) and gingivitis. Various preventive strategies have been examined to prevent the development of WSLs. During initial non-surgical periodontal therapy, the use of subgingival air-polishing with erythritol powder has shown promising results in reducing deep pockets and gingival inflammation. The efficacy of its use as monotherapy in preventing WSLs and gingival inflammation in patients during orthodontic treatment, has not yet been tested. The primary objective of the present study is to compare the effectiveness of an air-polishing device used as monotherapy versus ultrasonic instrumentation (the current gold standard procedure) in preventing white spot lesions (WSL) and gingivitis among young patients undergoing multi-bracketed fixed orthodontic treatment.

NCT ID: NCT05928546 Not yet recruiting - Inflammation Gum Clinical Trials

Effect of Quercetin in Treatment of Periodontitis

Start date: February 20, 2024
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

Periodontitis is an immune-inflammatory disease affecting the supporting structures of the teeth. It is a disease of multifactorial etiology, with microbial, genetic, environmental and host factors involved, with the release of oxygen-free radicals by the inflammatory cells. Quercetin, have shown potential antimicrobial activity, lowering of inflammatory markers, cholesterol reduction and inhibiting bone loss. However, this data has largely been obtained from in vitro and animal studies, but data from human studies are limited.

NCT ID: NCT05646459 Withdrawn - Clinical trials for Periodontitis, Adult

Effect of Local Cannabidiol on Clinical and Inflammatory Outcomes in Periodontal Maintenance Patients.

Start date: June 2019
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

This study will determine if cannabidiol (CBD) has any effect on local inflammation in periodontal maintenance patients. Many successful therapies exist for the active, untreated periodontal patient. Unfortunately, periodontology has not yet discovered a therapy that will predictably treat local inflammation in patients who are at risk for further pocketing, bleeding on probing, bone loss and ultimately, tooth loss. Although CBD has been patented in various forms since the 1940s, its acceptance and availability to patients has only recently expanded. Marketing of CBD to periodontal patients as a means to control inflammation is commonplace online and in CBD-specific shops. In determining if CBD is a successful supplement to conventional periodontal inflammation control therapies, millions of patients could benefit from this treatment.

NCT ID: NCT05398770 Not yet recruiting - Inflammation Clinical Trials

Randomized Clinical Trial (RCT) on the Effect of Vitamin D Supplement Prior to Non-surgical Periodontal Therapy: a Feasibility Trial

Start date: August 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to test the feasibility i. e. to examine all aspects necessary for the implementation of a future randomized clinical trial that aims to determine whether non-surgical periodontal treatment can be improved by concomitant intake of vitamin D.

NCT ID: NCT04626011 Recruiting - Cardiac Surgery Clinical Trials

Impact of Teeth Extraction on Inflammation Marker's Levels in Patients Who Undergoing Cardiac Surgery

Start date: October 5, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The aim of this study is to examine effects of dental treatments, surgical (extractions) and non-surgical procedures (non-surgical periodontal therapy), on serum levels for PCR, WBCs and PCT in patients needing a dental remediation before undergoing cardiac surgery.

NCT ID: NCT04251858 Enrolling by invitation - Clinical trials for Periodontal Diseases

Evaluation of Oral Condition and the Effect of Dental Treatment on Physical Parameters of Athletes

Start date: March 30, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

It is essential that athletes have perfect general health. Oral health plays an important role in this healthy framework necessary so that the results that must be achieved by athletes are not influenced. Inflammatory and / or infectious processes such as periodontal disease, caries, or even joint problems such as temporomandibular joint dysfunction can affect performance or impair participation in training and competitions.

NCT ID: NCT03264846 Completed - Clinical trials for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Endocan Levels at Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and Periodontal Inflammation

Start date: April 3, 2017
Phase:
Study type: Observational [Patient Registry]

Periodontal diseases are chronic inflammatory disease occurred by the interaction between pathogenic microorganism and the host defense. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a reproductive and metabolic disease associated with increased risk of cardiovascular events. Endocan is a proteoglycan secreted mainly by endothelial cells under the control of inflammatory cytokines. Periodontal diseases, including gingivitis, are common chronic infectious diseases caused by predominantly pathogenic microorganisms that colonize the subgingival area and cause local and systemic elevations of proinflammatory cytokines such as Interleukin-6 (IL-6). Several lines of evidence established the association between periodontal and systemic diseases, including metabolic syndrome, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Because of the fact that both periodontal disease and PCOS are associated with systemic inflammation and insulin resistance, these two disorders may be linked through a common pathophysiologic pathway. A number of studies have indicated a possible relationship between PCOS and periodontal inflammation. Despite common risk factors, including oxidative stress, the relationship between chronic periodontitis (CP) and PCOS remains unclear. The aims of the study were to determine serum and saliva Endocan and IL-6 levels and to evaluate the correlation between these two biomarker in women with periodontal disease and PCOS.

NCT ID: NCT03225950 Completed - Clinical trials for Rheumatoid Arthritis

Interaction Between Immune Cells and Bacteria Associated With Periodontitis

Start date: February 1, 2017
Phase:
Study type: Observational

This study evaluates the interaction between host immune cells and bacteria associated with periodontitis. It comprises biological material from donors with and without periodontal disease. Specifically, we collect a spit and blood sample to conduct in vitro stimulations and measurements of selected parameters related to periodontitis to clarify obscure areas in the immunologic pathogenesis of this disease.
