One-third of the U.S. population experience anxiety disorders in their lifetime and only 25% of them seek treatment, reporting logistics and cost of treatment among the primary barriers. A potential way to prevent and treat multiple anxiety disorders is to target the risk factors that contribute to their etiology. One such well-researched risk factor is anxiety sensitivity (AS), a fear of anxiety-related sensations. Given a need for affordable and accessible brief treatments, we and our colleagues have been iteratively developing Brief Enhanced Anxiety Sensitivity Treatment (BEAST), a one-session virtual treatment targeting AS. Older versions of BEAST include psychoeducation, interoceptive exposure (IE), and IE homework. Several studies showed that the previous versions of BEAST reduced AS and, through the reductions in AS, they also reduced anxiety. However, the effect sizes for the decrease in anxiety were modest. Efficacy and personalization may be improved using Ecological Momentary Intervention (EMI). EMI delivers brief interventions remotely in real-time and in natural settings. The goal of the current study is to test the efficacy of adding EMI to BEAST. Participants will be randomly assigned to EMI and control (no EMI) conditions. All participants will receive a virtual 1.5-hour-long intervention group session facilitated by a therapist. The EMI group will receive individualized intervention messages helping them to use new skills for two weeks after the session. After the two-week EMI period, all participants will complete post-treatment measures of AS and anxiety. A month later, they will complete a follow-up assessing AS and anxiety. The efficacy of the EMI component in reducing AS and anxiety will be tested using multilevel modeling. Improving the efficacy of BEAST, while keeping it brief, affordable, and accessible online, is an important step towards making it a treatment that may be used on a large scale.

The effect of vitamin D intake on antibodies was studied.
Food allergies account for only a small percentage of all adverse reactions to foods and their prevalence has increased over the past 10-15 years, particularly in industrialized countries: 3-6% of children under 3 years of age and 1-3% of adults. Food allergens in children are represented by milk, egg, wheat, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, and shellfish. The majority of allergic processes that develop during the childhood tend to abate with age, whereas those that occur during adulthood tend to persist. Hypersensitivity refers to an excessive immunological reaction to food antigens with undesirable consequences. The first aim of our study is to evaluate the role of intestinal microbiota and their relationship with immune tolerance or allergic disorder. The second aim of our study is determining the biochemical metabolites on the host (human being) in allergic disorder, and these biochemical metabolites can be measured in fecal or urine samples by metabolomics methods. We try to seek to gain an advanced understanding of gut microbiota and biochemical metabolites associated with mucosal immune responses in the host. These findings could be useful for developing strategies to modify the gut microbiota or medical applications (e.g. healthy microbe preparations) involving beneficial microorganisms to control the development of allergic disorders.
This study aims to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of different online interventions targeting reward sensitivity and depressive symptoms. We hypothesize that behavioral activation, a mindfulness and gratitude intervention, as well as a combination of both, will significantly reduce depressive symptoms and increase reward sensitivity, compared to the waitlist group. In addition, we assume that behavioral activation will have an increased effect on reward sensitivity compared to the mindfulness and gratitude intervention. The investigators will further investigate factors influencing treatment success in another paper based on data of this study (see secondary and other pre-specified outcome measures).
The goal is to identify food sensitivity in patients and assess whether the avoidance of the reaction-inducing foods via an 'elimination diet' leads to improvement in patient symptoms and overall well-being.
As Acute respiratory failure (ARF) is a challenging serious condition especially when it necessitates intubation to deliver mechanical ventilation which is a fundamental strategy for supporting the respiratory function when the patient can't bear all work of breathing. Even if it represents a life-saving procedure, mechanical ventilation (MV) is associated to life-threatening complications as respiratory muscle dysfunction, and atrophy that lead to long stay in intensive care unit (ICU) and higher mortality. Weaning difficulty is experienced in nearly 30 percent of critically ill patients. The decision to extubate mechanically ventilated patients should be aimed at preventing both the risk of premature liberation from MV which is associated with poor outcome and the risk of delayed extubation which increases the complications of prolonged MV and there is increasing evidence that MV itself may adversely affect the diaphragm's structure and function, which has been termed ventilator-induced diaphragmatic dysfunction (VIDD). The combination of positive pressure ventilation and positive end-expiratory pressure may unload the diaphragm which leads to changes in myofibril length and rapid atrophy that occurs within hours of MV, caused by an imbalance between protein synthesis and proteolysis, lead to a large reduction in the inspiratory pressure generated by the diaphragm.
The purpose of this study is to quantify and publish participants' relative preferences for outcomes of chemotherapy and novel oral hormonal agents when added to androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) for participants with locally-advanced and metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC). This study will also quantify the importance of administration factors related to convenience relative to treatment outcomes.
The fight against bacteria is one of the greatest challenges faced by societies, especially with the spread of multi drug resistant (MDR) bacteria. The failure to stop the spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is due to a lack of fast detection methods and proper strategies. Novel, rapid and reliable detection and characterization tests are an urgent need for differentiating between bacterial and viral infections and identifying AMR, so that the most appropriate treatment can be given in a timely manner. AMR-DetecTool or NG Detectool is a detection system for the direct detection of AMR in clinical samples. The clinical sample is directly processed and a result indicating if the bacteria are resistant to the most relevant antibiotics is immediately shown. It allows for a dramatic reduction in the treatment decision time upon sample reception from 24 hours (current workflow) to 15-30 minutes.
The purpose of the study is to test whether children with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are more susceptible to false memory production using a DRM paradigm. The number of "critical decoy production" errors will be analyzed and compared to the calibration of the test.
