Filter by:The purpose of the Exerci-Zzz Study is to learn more about how the time of day that exercise is performed influences sleep quality and fat metabolism overnight in adults with metabolic syndrome. In this study, exercise will be performed in the early evening and the investigators will measure participants' sleep quality and fat metabolism overnight in a metabolic room. The total study will take approximately 2-3 months to complete. Enrolled participants will complete 2 study conditions (evening exercise and control) in a metabolic room. Each of these visits will last 30 hours and require that the participant stay in the metabolic room. During the evening exercise participants will be asked to perform exercise in the early evening. Finally, during the control condition participants will be asked spend the day in the metabolic room (no exercise performed during this condition). During each of these conditions, the investigators will measure participant sleep quality and fat metabolism overnight. In the morning, the investigators will perform a metabolic test to assess the responses of certain hormones. Findings from this study will identify how exercise influences novel contributors to metabolic syndrome (sleep quality and nocturnal metabolism) and shed light on some potential mechanisms to explain the variability in exercise responses.
CHORAL Flow is a randomised, double blinded, placebo-controlled trial of the effects of evolocumab on coronary flow at 12 weeks.
Clinicians slated for virtual visit rollout will be randomized (stratified by department) to either receive immediate virtual visit on-boarding (intervention arm) or delayed (3-months later) virtual visit on-boarding (control arm). The investigators plan to enroll no more than 200 clinicians. Any clinician in a department selected by the Brigham Health Virtual Care team for access to virtual visits is eligible, unless s/he saw less than 20 patients monthly over the last 6 months. The Brigham Health Virtual Care team will onboard all clinicians and provide virtual visit support as per their usual protocol. The primary study endpoint is third-available appointment, a well-adopted measure of access. Other secondary endpoints revolve around continuity, efficiency, utilization, safety, cost, and patient experience.
A prospective, open-label, pilot study with 24 cardiovascular high risk patients (N=24) having insufficient Low density lipoprotein cholesterin (LDL-C) reduction despite standard of care lipid-modifying therapies (LMTs), to evaluate the effects of potent lipid-therapy intensification via the recently approved monoclonal, human anti-PCSK9 antibody Alirocumab on endothelial function, inflammation, lipoprotein particle subfractions, carotid arteries and post-prandial lipemia in clinical routine at the Medical University of Graz.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one cause of mortality for men and women in the United States. Dyslipidemia, particularly a high low-density-lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) level, is a well-established cardiovascular risk factor and the current American Heart Association guideline for CVD risk assessment recommends a lipid panel to be checked. In addition, guidelines recommend statin therapy in all patients with clinical atherosclerotic CVD, all patients with LDL-C = 190 mg/dL, patients age 40-75 years with diabetes and LDL-C 70-189 mg/dL, and patients with an estimated 10-year atherosclerotic CVD risk = 7.5%. For all of these patients, a fasting lipid panel should be drawn prior to statin initiation as well as during follow-up to assess medication and lifestyle adherence. These fasting lipid panels are obtained via conventional phlebotomy via venopuncture in an office-based or hospital laboratory setting. However, research protein quantitation with mass spectrometry and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) are technologies that allow for sensitive quantitation of protein biomarkers and targets, including lipoproteins. Most importantly, multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mass spectrometry is able to assess samples from a dried blood spot (DBS), whose advantages include minimal volume requirements, ease of sample attainment by finger stick with minimal training required, ease of transport, and sample stability. The purpose of the proposed analysis is to 1) measure changes in CVD biomarkers before and after initiation of statin therapy and 2) compare lipid measurements by conventional phlebotomy blood samples to research protein quantitation measurements in DBS and plasma.
The purpose of the ACCENTUATE study is to evaluate whether the study drug known as evacetrapib is effective in treating participants with high cholesterol and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) and/or diabetes.
Funding Source - FDA OOPD This study is being done to find out whether an investigational (not approved by FDA ) drug called SLx-4090 or Orlistat (FDA approved medication for weight loss) when given alone or in combination can treat the high blood fat (elevated triglycerides)levels found in the condition Type 1 Hyperlipoproteinemia (T1HLP) better or more safely than low fat diet alone, the current standard medical care. It is also not clear whether Orlistat, that is FDA approved for weight loss, is effective in lowering blood fat levels in patients with Type 1 hyperlipoproteinemia (T1HLP). The researchers are interested in learning whether any one of these drugs when given alone or in combination is more effective and safe in treating T1HLP.
The design of the study will be randomized, double blind trial, which will examine the effects of Rosiglitazone on the fasting triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and plasma concentrations of apolipoproteins A-I, A-II, and C-III as compared to Fenofibrate and placebo. This study will also assess the synergistic effect of Rosiglitazone and Fenofibrate on the same parameters. Data from this study will help clarify whether Rosiglitazone favorably impacts plasma lipid and lipoprotein concentrations through improving insulin sensitivity and glycemic control, or by directly influencing the synthesis of the apolipoproteins that are responsible for very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) and HDL metabolism.
