Effect of Orange Juice on Glycemic Response

Use of NPH Versus Basal Bolus Insulin for Steroid Induced Hyperglycemia

Glucocorticoids are known to cause an increase in insulin resistance, leading to hyperglycemia, in both diabetic and non-diabetic patients. In both the inpatient and outpatient setting, steroids are used for their anti-inflammatory property to treat a variety of conditions. There is a paucity of information regarding the best way to treat steroid-induced hyperglycemia. In this study we will compare (1) the addition of NPH insulin, an intermediate-acting insulin, given at the time of steroid administration to the patient's standard basal/bolus insulin to (2) modification of the standard basal-bolus insulin regimen which will consist primarily increasing the prandial doses at lunch and supper in order to determine which regimen is superior for glycemic control.

This study aims to assess the effects of early basal insulin therapy in previously non-diabetic de novo kidney transplant patients in reducing the incidence of new onset diabetes in particular and abnormal glucose metabolism in general during subsequent follow-up.The ITP NODAT study should be seen in connection with the Vienna SAPT-NODAT study (clinicaltrials.gov record number: NCT01680185), as for the final analysis, the data yielded from the three arms in those two studies will be used for an pooled analysis.

This phase II trial studies how well tailored prednisone reduction works in preventing hyperglycemia in participants with B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma receiving combination chemotherapy treatment. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin hydrochloride, vincristine sulfate and prednisone, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Reductions in prednisone dose may lower blood sugar levels.

The TCF7L2 Gene: Dietary Prevention of T2DM

Nutrients and chemicals in food are able to regulate expression of genetic elements. Gene-nutrient interaction in response specific diets can increase an individual's risk, shifting the individual from health toward the development of chronic disease. The Transcription Factor 7 Like 2 (TCF7L2) gene may either put individuals at risk for or protect from Type 2 diabetes mellitus in the presence of certain foods. The main purpose of this four-week study is to examine diet-induced gene-nutrient interaction, with a focus on glucose, insulin, inflammation (CRP) and the plasma metabolome in individuals who have either the CC or the TT form of the rs7903146 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) (C/T) within the TCF7L2 gene. The (2) one-week study diets, one Mediterranean diet (MedDiet) based and the other low-fat based will be separated by a (1) week return to a regular habitual diet.
