Filter by:The primary purpose of this study is to evaluate the diagnostic performance of three methods for measuring right ventricular size and function including the Philips Novel RV quantification technologies (RV Heart Model volumetric analysis and Philips 2D strain) and the Upper Valley Right Ventricle Algorithm (UVRV) algorithm as compared to the gold standard of volumetric analysis via cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) in a broad patient population.
In this randomized controlled clinical trial, patients with moderate to severe mitral valve stenosis (MS) and atrial fibrillation (AF) will be enrolled into the study.Participants will be divided into two groups based on the anticoagulation regimen type. The intervention group will receive rivaroxaban and the control group will be given warfarin. All patients will be observed closely during a period of one year. Through the follow up, embolic events and hemorrhagic complications will be recorded in both groups. In addition, patients in both group will undergo a baseline magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and an MRI after one-year follow up, by which the silent embolic events will be compared in both groups.
A study to assess the safety and preliminary efficacy of serial intravenous dose of Allogeneic Mesenchymal Bone Marrow Cells in subjects with heart failure and implanted left ventricular assist devices.
The study is about exploring physiological angiogenesis linked to tissue repair in patients with acute heart infarction or chronic heart ischemia by means of 68Ga-NODAGA-RGD PET/CT imaging.
The aim of this open-label (OL) trial is to study the long-term use of macitentan for up to 2 years in Fontan-palliated adult and adolescent patients beyond the 52 weeks of treatment in the parent RUBATO double-blind (DB) study (AC-055H301, NCT03153137). This OL trial studies the long-term effect of macitentan in Fontan-palliated patients as it is not known if the effect of macitentan is sustained beyond 52 weeks (end of the parent RUBATO DB study). In addition, the trial also studies the long-term safety of macitentan as this is also unknown. Furthermore, the opportunity will be given to patients who were on placebo in the parent RUBATO DB study to receive macitentan 10 mg and benefit from a potentially active treatment.
Patients with kidney failure have a much higher risk of heart disease compared to people of the same age without kidney failure. The reason for this is not fully understood. In this project we will use Cardiac MRI (CMR), which is a very detailed scan of the heart and blood vessels, to try to better understand the cardiovascular changes that occur in kidney failure. We will perform CMR scans in 30 patients before and after dialysis (a treatment for patients with kidney failure) to see whether dialysis changes the heart muscle. The same patients will also undergo another type of heart scan, called a CT scan. This will allow us to compare the pictures from the 2 different types of scan to help us better understand any damage to the heart muscle that is present. Finally, we will test a new way to measure hardening of blood vessels on CMR. These three studies will help us to better understand the heart and blood vessel changes that happen in kidney failure. This research will also be useful for patients without kidney failure. We hope to be able to use it in the future to see which new treatments might be able to reduce the risk of heart disease in patients with kidney failure.
The main objective of this clinical trial is to evaluate the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of adding ozone therapy to standard management of patients with advanced ischemic heart disease refractory to medical and surgical treatment.
The purpose of the study is to see whether the antibiotic combination of 100mg doxycycline, 500mg azithromycin and 300mg rifabutin is a safe and effective treatment for coronary artery disease which has not responded to 'standard treatment'. Coronary artery disease is the process of plaque build up within the walls of the arteries responsible for supplying the heart with oxygen and nutrients. plaque is usually made up of fatty deposits, minerals and various amounts of tissue and white cells which eventually narrows the artery, reducing blood flow to the heart. The resulting damage and build up of fat leads to inflammation of the arterial wall and eventually the arteries narrow. The researchers involved in this study consider that a pathogen called Chlamydophila pneumoniae, which can live inside cells may cause this inflammation of the arterial wall. The purpose of this study is to see if treatment with this antibiotic combination in patients with CHD is safe and effective in reducing disease severity measured at coronary angiography and improving quality of life. Approximately 60 patients will be involved in this trial. the treatment period is 90 days with a further 90 day follow up period.
An accepted "gold standard" for hemodynamic monitoring in women with both healthy and diseased hearts is not currently available. Pregnancy is associated with significant hemodynamic changes, both during and following delivery, which can be even more profound in the structurally-abnormal heart. Clinical management of these women is based on surrogate markers of cardiac indices such as peripheral blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen saturation, rather than the use of invasive testing due to its associated complications. Echocardiography has largely replaced PAC in the obstetric population to measure cardiac output due to its non-invasive nature and good correlation with PAC18. However, its use is limited in the intrapartum period due to the need for clinical expertise in obtaining and interpreting the images. The proposed study has the potential to validate bio-reactance cardiac output monitoring using the NICOM against echocardiography for use in structurally normal and abnormal pregnant hearts in order to better drive goal-directed (specifically delivery mode) therapy through continuous hemodynamic monitoring during the second and third stages of labor, and 24 hours postpartum.
Assessment of the clinical safety and performance of the Orsiro drug-eluting stent in a real world setting in patients with small vessels with reference vessel diameter ≤2.75 mm
