Filter by:Traumatic rib fractures are common, resulting from significant forces impacting on the chest, and are associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Acute pain management in inpatients with traumatic rib fractures has been highly emphasized by practitioners. Inappropriate analgesia may cause respiratory complications, including pneumonia, atelectasis, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and prolonged hospital stay. These may be prevented or reduced by good analgesic therapy. This study is aimed to investigate the analgesic effect of acupuncture on traumatic rib fractures.
This study aimed to identify the risk factors and complications associated with mortality in elderly patients with femoral fracture after a fall from the ground level.
This study is an ancillary study to the Utilizing Protein During Weight Loss to Impact Physical Function (UPLIFT) trial (NCT03074643) to evaluate the effects of diet composition (i.e., amount of protein and carbohydrate) during a 6-month weight loss intervention and 12-months of follow-up on bone phenotypes in obese older adults. Participants will receive either a protein or carbohydrate supplement along with a behavioral weight loss intervention.
Fracture of the upper extremity of the femur is a condition whose frequency increases with age. It is a serious disease, with multiple consequences such as a decrease in life expectancy, quality of life and patient autonomy. In this observational study, the investigators wish to evaluate the evolution of the autonomy of very elderly patients operated on for an upper extremity femur fracture as a function of early post-operative anemia.
Ankle fracture is one of most common bone fracture in Taiwan, although ankle fracture can be treated by surgical operation, local edema, pain and wound poor healing always is noted, according to the investigator's knowledge, no good therapeutic methods to treat mention-above symptoms until now. Helminthostachys zeylanica(L.)Hook, also called Dau-Di-U-Gon has anti-inflammation, calm down heat and detoxication, and anti-edema. People in Taiwan often uses Helminthostachys zeylanica(L.)Hook to treat bone and tendon pain, and its Ugonin component of Helminthostachys zeylanica(L.)Hook also is proved that has analgesia and ant-inflammation. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to design a randomized, double-blind, controlled study to evaluate functional recovery effect of Helminthostachys zeylanica(L.)Hook after surgical operation in patients with ankle fracture.
This study aimed to determine the influence of ageing on the incidence and site of femoral fractures in trauma patients, by taking the sex, body weight, and trauma mechanisms into account.
Most Galeazzi fractures can be treated adequately with open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of the radius alone, but some will remain unstable at the DRUJ and require repair of the TFCC.The purpose of this anatomical and biomechanical study was to define and measure DRUJ dislocation, displacement and instability associated with the sequential sectioning of the different bands in the interosseous membrane (IOM) and TFCC in the simulation of a Galeazzi fracture.
This is an observational and cross-sectional study on the height loss, kyphosis indicators, bone mineral density and vertebral fractures in Chinese postmenopausal women
Patients over the age of 65 who are admitted to the Juravinski Hospital for treatment of hip fractures will be invited to take part in the study. An activity monitor (a Fitbit® Alta HR) will be attached to the participant post-operatively, to record quality of sleep and amount of activity for the duration of hospital stay. The time spent in hospital and whether complications or confusion develops will also be recorded. The aim is to determine whether poor sleep affects recovery after hip fracture surgery.
Cervical trauma is a common cause of disability following spinal cord injury, especially in athletic populations. The biomechanics in the atlantoaxial joint carry more than 50% of the rotational movement which can be affected in transverse ligament tear associated with odontoid fracture type II. Odontoid fracture type II considered an unstable fracture with a high rate of non-union in conservative treatment. Limitation of the odontoid screws in some cases gives the chance of posterior cervical fixation to have the superior role. Use of polyaxial screws in Harms technique gives the best results in maintaining the majority of the biomechanics. Purpose: our aim in this study to evaluate Harms technique in those patients regarding pain improvement and restoration of the motor power and to report the complications. Study design: A retrospective case series study. We Used the Frankel grading system to evaluate the postoperative neurological state.
