Filter by:The main objective of this exploratory 8 week pilot study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of buspirone for the treatment of anxiety in youth (ages 6-17 years) with autism spectrum disorders. The study results will be used to generate hypotheses for a larger randomized controlled clinical trial with explicit hypotheses and sufficient statistical power.
Hypothesis to be tested: Bilateral Deep Brain Stimulation to the Nucleus Accumbens is associated with clinically and statistically significant improvement in patients with treatment resistant bipolar disorder. Overall Objective: The aim in this interdisciplinary, psychiatric-neurosurgical project is to evaluate safety and efficacy of bilateral Deep Brain Stimulation to the Nucleus Accumbens (NAcc) using the Medtronic Activa RC Neurostimulator in patients with treatment resistant Bipolar Disorder.
The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of hydroxyzine in the treatment of meal-related anxiety in adolescents and young adults 8 to 25 years of age diagnosed with an eating disorder who are underweight. The investigators want to find out if hydroxyzine given before meals will improve meal-related anxiety compared to no hydroxyzine.
Background: - Medications to treat major depression act on a brain chemical called serotonin, which binds to receptors on brain cells. More research is needed on how serotonin receptors work in the brain, and imaging studies such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can provide information on how these receptors function in the brains of individuals with depression and healthy volunteers. The experimental radioactive chemical [11C]CUMI has been designed to react with serotonin receptors, and researchers are interested in studying its effectiveness using positron emission tomography (PET) scanning to see how well it gets into the brain. Objectives: - To evaluate the effectiveness of the radiotracer [11C]CUMI in brain imaging studies of serotonin receptors. Eligibility: - Individuals between 18 and 55 years of age who either have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder or are healthy volunteers. Design: - Participants will be screened with a full medical history, physical and psychiatric examination, blood and urine tests, and questionnaires about mood. Participants will also have an electrocardiogram at this visit. - At the first study visit, participants will have a MRI scan of the brain to provide baseline data on brain function. - At the second study visit, participants will have a PET scan with the [11C]CUMI contrast agent. - No treatment will be provided as part of this protocol....
The primary objective of the study is to investigate the efficacy of Atomoxetine (ATMX) in the treatments of adolescent and young adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) with comorbid Substance Use Disorder (SUD). The secondary objective of the study is to determine the efficacy of ATMX in preventing SUD relapse. As previous pre-clinical work has demonstrated that ATMX has led to significant improvement in ADHD in children and lacks abuse liability, the investigators hypothesize that ATMX will be efficacious in treating ADHD in adolescents and young adults with SUD, and that ATMX will also be efficacious in preventing SUD relapse.
The purpose of this study is to assess the safety and tolerability of ziprasidone during a long-term open label study in children and adolescents (ages 10-17) with Bipolar I Disorder (Manic or Mixed).
RATIONALE: Antimicrobial solution comprising trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, edetate calcium disodium, and ethanol may help prevent blockages and infections from forming in patients with central venous access catheters or peripheral venous catheters. PURPOSE: This randomized trial is studying an antimicrobial solution or saline solution in maintaining catheter patency and preventing catheter-related blood infections in patients with malignancies.
The objective of this study is to evaluate whether use of TRMDU in addition to medication review leads to improved outcomes and reduced health care costs for patients when compared with medication review alone. The study will be conducted in patients assigned to Department of Defense (DOD) Warrior Transition Units (WTU's), similar DOD units, and VA polytrauma centers.
