Filter by:The main goal of this research is to use behavioral, brain, and clinical data to determine which type of antidepressant might be optimal before people with depression start treatment.
Major depressive disorder (MDD) is the most common psychiatric disease worldwide with a huge socio-economic impact. Pharmacotherapy represents the first-line treatment choice; however, only about one third of patients respond to the first trial and about 30% are classified as treatment-resistant depression (TRD). TRD is associated with specific clinical features and genetic/gene expression signatures. To date, single sets of markers have shown limited power in response prediction. The aim of this project is the development of a precision medicine algorithm that would help early detection of non-responder patients, who might be more prone to later develop TRD. In this phase of the project a naturalistic cohort of 300 MDD patients will be recruited. The data collected will be used to assess, in real-world conditions, the capability of an innovative algorithm (integrating clinical, omics and gender data of other 300 patients con MDD) to predict the treatment outcomes. This project represents a proof-of-concept study. The obtained results will provide information about the feasibility and usefulness of the proposed approach, with the perspective of designing future clinical trials in which algorithms could be tested as a predictive tool to drive decision making by clinicians, enabling a better prevention and management of MDD resistance.
This is a phase 2, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-arm trial to assess the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of centanafadine once-daily (QD) extended-release (XR) capsules for the treatment of adult subjects diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). The trial will evaluate the efficacy and safety of centanafadine QD XR capsules as monotherapy or as adjunct to the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), escitalopram.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the comfort of the NeuroStar® Advanced Therapy System regular prescribed TMS protocol versus a New Feature.
Pregnant women in pregnancy week 8-29 screening positive for antenatal depression will be randomized to either choose or to be allotted by chance to different forms of diagnostic assessment; i.e. telephone, video or face-to-face assessment. Those diagnosed with mild to moderate major depression will then be randomized to treatment with therapist-guided Internet-delivered Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (ICBT) adapted for women suffering from antenatal depression or to the same treatment with addition of up to three contacts with extra support by a midwife or experienced perinatal mental health nurse. The primary aim is to assess whether extrasupport in addition to internet-guided pregnancy adapted ICBT decreases depressive symptoms more than internet-guided pregnancy adapted ICBT only. Secondary aims include effects of extrasupport and assessment mode on treatment satisfaction, fidelity and credibility.
The purpose of this study is to assess which antidepressants work the best in older adults who have treatment-resistant depression (TRD), and to test whether treatment-resistant late life depression is associated with declines in memory and attention and brain structure and function.
Public safety personnel (PSP; e.g., border services personnel, correctional workers, firefighters, paramedics, police, public safety communicators) are frequently exposed to potentially psychologically traumatic events. Such events contribute to substantial and growing challenges from posttraumatic stress injuries (PTSIs), including but not limited to posttraumatic stress disorder. The PSP PTSI Study has been designed to evaluate an evidence-informed, proactive system of mental health assessment and training among Royal Canadian Mounted Police (www.rcmpstudy.ca) for delivery among diverse PSP (i.e., firefighters, municipal police, paramedics, public safety communicators). The training is based on the Unified Protocol for the Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders, adapted for PSP, and named Emotional Resilience Skills Training (ERST). The subsequent PSP PTSI Study results are expected to benefit the mental health of all participants and, ultimately, all PSP.
Current research on the pathogenesis of depression shows that imbalanced inflammatory factors are closely related to Major Depressive Disorder(MDD). As reported, physical exercise, Ω-3 fatty acids, and sulforaphane can be complementary therapies for moderate-to-severe depression. In addition, imaging studies have found changes in the structure and functional connectivity of the brain. Therefore, this study intends to collect clinical and biological information from patients with depression and healthy controls to establish a multi-factor model for early warning and diagnosis of major depressive disorder
This is a pilot sub-study of an ongoing trial comparing N2O to midazolam in MDD and will examine neuroimaging correlates of treatment response.
Measurement-based care (MBC) is an evidence-based practice that incorporates routine outcome assessment using validated rating scales to guide collaborative clinical decision-making. Although MBC results in improved outcomes for patients with major depressive disorder (MDD), there are barriers to its broad implementation in clinical settings. The use of "enhanced" MBC (eMBC), with mobile apps that allow patients to track outcomes and engage in self-management via WeChat, may address some of these barriers. The investigators hypothesize that implementation with eMBC using WeChat will be superior to standard MBC implementation using paper-pencil assessments at the clinic, for both implementation and clinical outcomes.
