NCT ID: NCT04773639 Recruiting - Metastatic Cancer Clinical Trials

Randomized Clinical Trial of a Multi-Modal Palliative Care Intervention

Start date: January 11, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Adults diagnosed with metastatic cancer commonly experience depression and anxiety symptoms, which can interfere with advance care planning. This randomized clinical trial evaluates a novel, piloted, primary palliative care intervention that addresses advance care planning and psychosocial needs of patients with metastatic cancer. The intervention focuses on patients with elevated anxiety and depression (anx/dep) symptoms-those with highest psychosocial needs who may be at greatest risk for advance care planning non-completion. The intervention is founded on an evidence-based intervention approach known as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) that reduces distress and promotes behavior change through theory-driven mechanisms. In the proposed randomized trial, M-ACT will be compared to a usual care control condition. The study will also assess the association between advance care planning and anx/dep symptoms, thereby informing the critical practice question of whether anx/dep symptoms should be addressed concurrently with advance care planning. The study will enroll patients with Stage IV solid tumor cancer (N=240) within Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers, randomized 1:1 to M-ACT or usual care. The study aims to: 1) Evaluate the hypothesis that M-ACT will increase advance care planning completion (primary outcome) and sense of life meaning, and reduce anx/dep symptoms and fear of dying relative to usual care control. 2) Assess the association between anx/dep symptoms and advance care planning at baseline and over time, testing the hypothesis that decreases in anx/dep symptoms at post- intervention will be associated with increases in advance care planning at follow-up. 3) Assess M-ACT's hypothesized mechanisms to specify how the intervention works (exploratory aim). Given their advance care planning and psychosocial needs, and poor access to palliative care, rigorously investigating M-ACT has the potential to benefit community patients with metastatic cancer and to advance palliative care science by addressing gaps in novel approaches, foundational knowledge, and the scalable delivery of palliative care. Note: Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the in-person group component of M-ACT has currently been shifted to an online group format.

NCT ID: NCT04773197 Terminated - Cancer Clinical Trials

Evaluating a Tailored Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Patients

Start date: November 30, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This project's overall goal is to test the feasibility, acceptability and efficacy of two coach-assisted, computer-based, cognitive- behavioral therapy (C-CBT) interventions in treating depression and anxiety in adolescent and young adult cancer survivors. The two coach-assisted interventions will be compared to the standard C-CBT intervention.

NCT ID: NCT04759313 Completed - Depression, Anxiety Clinical Trials

Image Narrative With College Students

Start date: March 15, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The PI developed the Image Narrative Intervention (INI) based on the research using visual images in which visual images and narratives were found to support trauma survivors in narrating their experiences and in meaning making. The proposed study is the first study to test the therapeutic effect of the INI program. The investigators propose to assess, both qualitatively and quantitatively, the feasibility and preliminary effect of the INI through a pilot randomized control trial (RCT) design with a wait list control.

NCT ID: NCT04754061 Recruiting - Depression, Anxiety Clinical Trials

PSilocybin for psYCHological and Existential Distress in PALliative Care (PSYCHED-PAL)

Start date: January 8, 2024
Phase: Phase 1/Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this multi-centre phase I/II open-label, single-arm study is to determine the safety, feasibility, therapeutic dose, and preliminary efficacy of psilocybin microdosing to treat psychological distress among patients with advanced illness. Forty patients will receive psilocybin drug product (1-3mg per day, Mon-Fri) for 4 weeks to be administered via oral capsules by the participant. Feasibility (recruitment rate, rate of intervention and follow-up completion), safety (rate of adverse events), dosing, and preliminary efficacy (depression, anxiety, overall well-being, and global impression of change) will be measured.

NCT ID: NCT04741529 Completed - Clinical trials for Psychological Distress

Massed and Spaced HMP App Dosage Study

Start date: March 9, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study is a randomized controlled trial (RCT) of 2 weeks of the Healthy Minds Program (HMP) app Connection module in undergraduate students of a large, midwestern state university in the United States during the spring of 2021. Participants will be recruited via email and/or flyers and will first complete an online screen. Eligible participants will complete baseline measures prior to attending an introductory session via web conferencing. During this session, participants will be randomly assigned to condition. Participants in both conditions will be asked to use the HMP app for 20 minutes per either, either split over two 10-minute session (Spaced condition) or in one 20-minute session (Massed condition). Participants will complete daily survey measures during the study and post-test measures after 2 weeks of intervention. This study is primarily designed to assess feasibility and acceptability of 2 weeks of Connection training and assignment to dosage condition. Study team will investigate self-reported informal practice on the daily diary measure, measures of psychological distress (composite of depression, anxiety) and loneliness.

NCT ID: NCT04719780 Completed - Depression, Anxiety Clinical Trials

An Attachment Based Approach for Anxiety and Depression

Start date: December 9, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of the current study is to examine the efficacy of Emotionally Focused Therapy for Individuals (EFIT) as a treatment for depression and anxiety. It is formulated as a trans-diagnostic treatment in line with the call for more transdiagnostic approaches to treat depression and anxiety given the many similarities in the underlying psychological and emotional factors of these disorders, the high levels of co-morbidity, and the preliminary success of transdiagnostic treatment approaches. EFIT has been formulated as an attachment-based alternative to current cognitive transdiagnostic approaches. The strong evidence for insecure attachment as an underlying factor in psychopathology, especially depression and anxiety, positions this theory well as a foundational principle to support psychotherapy for these conditions. EFIT has been formulated for the first time this year in the book that will serve as the therapy manual for this study. The current study aims to examine EFIT outcomes as compared to a control group (a wait-list control followed by online CBT intervention after the wait period). In particular, this research project aims to distinguish differences in initial and follow-up outcomes between EFIT versus control, and demonstrate significant changes in attachment/emotions and mechanisms of change across EFIT sessions. The primary hypotheses are outlined below.
