Filter by:This project will compare two training models of an evidence-based online dementia care training program for direct care staff in assisted living to a waitlist control: 1) essentiALZ training and 2) essentiALZ training + Project ECHO. It will examine the extent to which each model is implemented and achieves its intended outcomes to improve staff knowledge and attitudes, change care practices, and improve the wellbeing of staff, residents, and residents' family members. Results will inform next steps in dementia care training for the assisted living (AL) and broader long-term care workforce. To examine these outcomes, data will be collected from AL staff and families over the course of 6 months. Staff will complete questionnaires and participate in interviews (as applicable) at baseline, post-training, 3-months, and 6-months. Families will participate in interviews at baseline, 3-months, and 6-months.
This project will enable optimization of specific carried out by occupationist for older adults discharged from hospital for falls: - on the environmental dimension at the participant's home - on the involvement of the caregiver since they are also involved in the care of the patient - on the recurrence of falls and rehospitalizations in order to improve the quality of life by reassuring the elderly person when traveling - on limiting loss of autonomy and staying at home. The occupational therapist will entrust the caregiver with a support role. The participant will feel more involved in the participant's care (thus reducing the feeling of helplessness). His actions will allow him to strengthen his sense of competence and will prevent him from physical and psychological exhaustion.
Psychoneuromentalism Disorder is a disorder arising in the mind; that is related to the mental and emotional state of a person. It is the science of mental life. The body has a natural design to heal itself. This is a mental phenomena that cannot be explained, until now. Psychoneuromentalism Disorder is a new condition resulting from behavioral impairments, neurodiversity, and neurobehavioral dysfunctions that are related to the mental and emotional state of a participant.
This is an observational, prospective cohort of patients who were prescribed or have taken CognivAiD as prescribed by the attending physician. The safety and efficacy of CognivAiD have been established in clinical studies. The registry will assess the safe use and effectiveness of CognivAiD in a real-world setting. The registry is designed as a product registry in clinical practice. The design also takes into account the different scenarios of product use in the real world (e.g., switching therapies during follow-up, use of multiple products in combination or sequence, different dosing, and compliance).
This project aims to introduce solutions for strengthening the management capabilities of two types of patients, in terms of care and prevention. Specifically, it is aimed at neurological patients with mild or minor neurocognitive decline (Mild Cognitive Impairment, MCI) and endocrinological patients diagnosed with obesity. The study want to enhance the predictive capacity of the care process management system through an Artificial Intelligence (AI) system. All patients diagnosed with MCI and obesity who, within 30 months, will be referred to the Neurology and Endocrinology clinics of the IRCCS Centro Neurolesi Bonino-Pulejo in Messina will be evaluated. Study design Patients will not be subjected to any procedure that goes beyond normal clinical practice; the clinical and neuropsychological variables that will be collected for the study are those that are commonly collected in normal clinical practice. All patients diagnosed with MCI and obesity who, within 30 months, will be referred to the Neurology and Endocrinology clinics of the IRCCS Centro Neurolesi Bonino-Pulejo in Messina will be evaluated. All patients will undergo clinical, neuropsychological and psychological evaluation at the beginning (baseline T0), at the end (T1) and after ... months from the end of treatment (follow up T2).
The purpose of this study is to evaluate an online platform -- the Living Memory Home for Dementia Care Pairs (LMH-4-DCP) for persons with dementia and their family caregivers to engage in reminiscence activities together and record meaningful memories. The main aims of this study are: - To evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of the LMH-4-DCP platform. - To explore the potential for LMH-4-DCP to reduce feelings of pre-loss grief and enhancing relationship quality in dementia family caregivers and their care-recipients ('Care-Pairs') Care pair participants will be asked to log-in to LMH-4-DCP and complete study activities three times per week for one month. Researchers will compare the intervention group to an attention control condition to see if LMH-4-DCP's use is associated with reduced feelings of caregiver pre-loss grief and improved care pair relationship quality at follow-up.
Acrylamide, a widespread food-processing contaminant, poses a major public health concern due to its high exposure level in the general population and its toxicity. While animal evidence shows that acrylamide causes neurological alterations and may play a role in cardiovascular disease, evidence in humans is lacking. Our project aims to investigate whether dietary acrylamide exposure, measured in blood, increases the risk of dementia, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases and myocardial infarction. In addition, the aim is to improve the understanding of the biological mechanisms underlying these associations integrating small compounds in blood (i.e., OMICS). In two population-based cohorts, the Cohort of 60-Year-Olds and the Swedish Mammography Cohort, acrylamide will be assessed in blood samples using a case-cohort design (around 2145 individuals, 20-year follow-up). The results will be presented in four scientific publications using adequate data analysis. The project will run from 2024-2028. The project´s findings will help improve public health through safer food and better nutrition. If findings indicate that acrylamide increases the risk of these diseases, this will urge interventions to decrease acrylamide exposure via food production and consumption. In turn, this will help to reduce the burden of these diseases. Even findings showing null association will be equally relevant to avoid unnecessary and costly preventive measures.
The specific aim of the pragmatic trial is to evaluate the practical utility and effect of the PDM, the QDRS, and the combined approach (PDM + QDRS) in improving the annual rate of new documented ADRD diagnosis in primary care practices.
This study is designed to evaluate the impact on the quality of life and wellbeing of a person-centered online dance program on people living with dementia or MCI and care partners. The duration of the study will be 1 year. Each participant in the study will be followed for approximately 4 months. The study includes joining a weekly 1-hour dance program online on Zoom for 12 weeks. Prior and after the dance program, participants will meet with the research coordinator to answer some questionnaires about wellbeing and reflections on their experience in the program. After the completion of the dance program, participants will be invited to join a focus group to reflect of the impact of the program with fellow participants. The study will enroll up to 72 participants. This includes 36 dyads of persons living with dementia or MCI and their care partners. The study will enroll community-dwelling people living with a diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment or mild to moderate-stage dementia and care partners living in the United States.
This study investigates the benefits of using telehealth services, specifically a combination of music therapy and social work support, to improve the well-being of older adults. Investigators are focusing on outcomes such as reduced loneliness, improved cognition, and how well older adults with and without dementia perceive the quality of the services received. This research is crucial because as the population ages and conditions like Alzheimer's become more prevalent, effective psychosocial interventions are needed. The collaborative telehealth approach of the intervention in this study strives to connect older adults to community and health-related services. Older adults experience challenges in accessing services related to transportation, social support, and finances. While the pandemic prompted a rapid shift of healthcare services online, including music therapy and social work, questions remain about the quality of this transition, especially for older adults who may not be familiar with or have the resources for telehealth. In this pilot study, investigators are studying music therapy and social work support through telehealth to understand how this approach can impact the well-being, cognition, and service quality for older adults, both with and without dementia. Social workers, who focus on improving well-being and addressing various needs, can leverage the therapeutic relationship built by music therapists to better identify and meet service needs. This pilot study builds on a feasibility project, which indicated that this collaborative framework is acceptable, valuable, and of interest to older adults, facilitating remote community connection. Through this research, investigators aim to evaluate the effectiveness of telehealth services for older adults to inform a future larger trial.
