Filter by:The rapid development of safe and effective COVID-19 treatment is a global health priority. Numerous studies evaluating therapies for this disease are currently underway, but the majority of these are in hospitalized patients with severe illness. Consequently, there is an urgent need to identify therapies that prevent mild COVID-19 cases in the community from becoming more severe. "Proning" or lying face down in bed has been shown to improve breathing and oxygen levels in COVID-19 patients, reducing the need for breathing tubes and ventilators and increasing survival. The current study will investigate whether proning and repositioning (lying on one's side or sitting up) can prevent mild cases of COVID-19 from becoming more severe resulting in fewer hospitalizations and death. A randomized controlled trial will be used to reduce the risk of bias when testing this intervention. Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated adult patients with a positive COVID-19 test willing to participate and well enough to be treated outside the hospital will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: a home-proning intervention group with instructions and daily reminders to prone and reposition during the day and at night, and a standard care group. Our goal is to assess whether home-proning/repositioning leads to fewer hospitalizations and death when compared with standard care. We'll also compare recovery time, use of antibiotics and follow up emergency department visits between these two groups. The current pilot study will assess the feasibility of a larger investigation or "main trial", meaning it will be small scale test of methods and procedures to be used on a larger scale.
The purpose of this study is to learn about the side effects (safety) of the study medicine PF-07321332 (nirmatrelvir)/ritonavir for the treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19 infection in adults with severe renal impairment. The study will also look at the amounts of study drug in your blood. There will be 24 participants in this study; 12 of them will have severe renal impairment and not be on hemodialysis and 12 of them will be on hemodialysis. All participants in this study will take PF-07321332 (nirmatrelvir)/ritonavir by mouth for 5 days. During this time, they will have to collect blood samples to measure the study drug levels in their blood. After taking the study drug for 5 days, the participants will have follow-up visits for about another 28 days for a total of about 34 days in the study. The study team will check how each participant is doing during regular visits at the study clinic.
The primary aim of this study is to evaluate the patients who had pneumonia or severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) due to COVID-19 in terms of sarcopenia and related factors following Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The patients who had COVID-19 infection in the ICU and the patients who admitted to the 'Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation' clinic for other reasons during the pandemic period will be compared in terms of sarcopenia.
This is a prospective, multicenter, randomized (3:1), placebo- controlled, parallel-group, double-blind trial. Patients will be randomized into two arms of treatment: - Placebo + SoC (N=30) - NanoManganese® + SoC (N=90) Patients will be treated and followed-up for 10 days: - Arterial oxygen partial pressure (PaO2) will be measured at baseline and at days 3, 5 and 10, - Oxygen saturation, vital signs including respiration rate, pulse rate, blood pressure and body temperature, disease severity (7-point ordinal scale and NEWS2 score) will be measured at baseline and daily, - Hematology and biochemistry measurements will be done at baseline and at day 3, 5 and 10, - Pharmacokinetic (Blood Mn concentration) measurements will be done at baseline and at day 3, 5 and 10, - Biomarkers will be measured at baseline and at day 3, 5 and 10. At the end of the 10-day treatment period, a follow-up visit will be planned between day 15 and day 22. The following. assessments/examinations will be performed: oxygen saturation, vital signs including respiration rate and body temperature, disease severity (7-point ordinal scale and NEWS2 score), electrocardiogram (ECG), hematology, biochemistry, concomitant therapies, and adverse events.
If a treated cancer patient cannot make antibodies to a Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) or approved vaccine, their risk for infection and its sequelae are significantly increased. The Astra-Zeneca Immuno-Suppressed Program (AISP) is designed to address whether a patient treated for cancer who receives a single-dose of Evusheld (AZD7442) 600 mg IM or IV will maintain a stable/protective effect against symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection including SARS-CoV-2 related hospitalization and/or SARS-CoV-2 related death up to 12 months post-baseline. The program will focus on patients with cancer who have been treated with chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, other therapy or combination therapy with or without radiation therapy within 12 months prior to enrollment, are willing/able to receive one IM or IV injection of Evusheld, are able to complete 14 Patient Experience/Clinical Outcome Assessment (COA) surveys, 6 Quality of Life (QoL) assessments and are willing to allow serum concentrations of Evusheld to be drawn 9 times, 3 SARS-CoV-2 Receptor Binding Domain-Immunoglobulin G (RBD-IgG) tests, and T-cell assay to be drawn once. In the event of a symptomatic break-thru SARS-CoV-2 positive infection by SARS-COV-2 Ribonucleic Acid (RNA) by Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test, the patient will have an additional Evusheld serum concentration, SARS-CoV-2 RBD-IgG antibody level and T-cell assay obtained in a temporally related manner. The program requires treatment with Evusheld 600 mg IM or IV.
Phase 1, open-label, dose-escalation study to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity of RVM-V001 administered as a single intramuscular injection in healthy adults.
