There are about 191 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Mali. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
Vaccine hesitancy is defined by the WHO's Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization as a 'delay in acceptance or refusal of vaccination despite availability of vaccination services'. This varies in form and intensity based on when and where it occurs and what vaccine is involved. Several prophylactic vaccines against COVID-19 are currently available. As the world is beginning the roll-out the first approved vaccines, little is known about people's potential acceptance of a COVID-19 vaccine in most of the African countries. ACHES (African COVID -19Vaccine Hesitancy) is an observational study aimed at measuring COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy in five west African countries and exploring causes behind the hesitancy with the main objective of informing guidelines for the proficient roll-out of the vaccines in the region.
The IRAM MALI impact evaluation uses a cluster-randomized controlled study design to assess the impact of the package of integrated interventions aimed at reducing the longitudinal prevalence of wasting by reducing the incidence of child wasting, enhancing the recovery/cure rate from wasting treatment and reducing the relapse rate determined three months after post-treatment recovery from wasting. These interventions include, among other things, strengthening of community care groups (NASGs); home visits with delivery of behavioral change communication about nutrition, health and hygiene (WASH) for young children; distribution of a preventive nutritional supplement; and improved coverage of wasting screening (family MUAC and community screening), management, adherence to treatment and prevention of relapse in the health district of Koutiala, Sikasso region, Mali, West Africa.
The primary objective of the study is to demonstrate and quantify the protective efficacy of a single Spatial Repellent (SR) product, in reducing malaria infection in a human cohort. The study design will be a prospective cluster Randomized Control Trial (cRCT).
The purpose of this study is to assess the gametocytocidal and transmission reducing activity of dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine (DP) with and without various low doses of tafenoquine (TQ; 1.66mg/kg, 0.83mg/kg, or 0.415mg/kg). Outcome measures will include infectivity to mosquitoes at 2 and 7 days after treatment, gametocyte density throughout follow-up, and safety measures including haemoglobin density.
This is a randomized crossover study, where clinicians will be randomized to periods where they will use a rehydration calculator application with or without the Diarrheal Etiology Prediction (DEP) algorithm. The crossover will include a washout period to reduce carryover effect. The study will be conducted over a 9-week period. The Investigators will use a random number generator to randomize clinicians to DEP (use of the etiology calculator) or control arm (use of a previously-tested rehydration calculator) within site for the first 4 weeks. After the first 4 weeks, there will be 1-week washout period without decision support, after which each clinician will cross-over to the other arm for the next 4 weeks. The Investigators will enroll diarrhea-treating clinicians who treat children presenting with acute diarrhea at sites in Bangladesh and Mali. Utah investigators will only analyze de-identified data provided by our collaborators in Bangladesh and Mali.
This is a phase IV, single-center, observer-blind, randomized, controlled vaccine trial in 2 to 10 years old healthy subjects. Each participant will receive a single intramuscular injection of one of the two vaccines either MPV ACYW® vaccine or Menactra ® vaccine according to the vaccine group assignment and will be followed up for one month for immunogenicity evaluation and for 6 months for safety evaluation. Statistical Hypothesis: H0: Seroconversion rate of test group is inferior to that of control group HA: Seroconversion rate of test group is non-inferior to that of control group Sample size calculation: the sample size was calculated based on non-inferiority test with alpha level of 0.025 and 80% power, assuming seroconversion rate in control group was 95% with non-inferiority margin at 10%. The sample size required for the study is 124 per arm. After adjusting for 5% drop-out, the final sample size required is 130 per arm.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of VRC MALMAB0100-00-AB (CIS43LS), a human monoclonal antibody, against naturally occurring Plasmodium falciparum (Pf) infection.
A double-blind, individual randomised trial will be undertaken in children under five years of age living in areas of Burkina Faso or Mali where the transmission of malaria is intense and highly seasonal to determine whether administration of further doses of the malaria vaccine RTS,S/AS01 at the beginning of the malaria transmission until children reach the age of five years is (a) as effective as SMC with SP + AQ in preventing clinical malaria (b) provides additional, useful protection when given together with SMC. The primary trial end-point will be the incidence of clinical episodes of malaria detected by passive case detection. This is a two year extension of the current RTS,S/AS01 + SMC trial to continue the trial until the study children reach the age of five years, the current age at which SMC is recommended until.
The study is a double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled trial that will be conducted primarily in healthcare settings and other facilities directly involved in COVID-19 case management. We will recruit healthcare workers and other persons at risk of contracting COVID-19, who can be followed reliably for 5 months. The initial aim was to recruit 40,000 participants and we predict an average of 400-800 participants per site in 50-100 sites. The participant will be randomised to receive either chloroquine or placebo (1:1 randomisation), or to hydroxychloroquine or placebo (1:1 randomisation). A loading dose of 10mg base/kg (four 155mg tablets for a 60kg subject), followed by 155 mg daily (250mg chloroquine phosphate salt/ 200mg hydroxychloroquine sulphate) will be taken for 3 months. If the participant is diagnosed with COVID-19, they will take continue to take the study medication until: - 90 days after enrolment (i.e., completion of kit) - hospitalised due to COVID-19 disease (i.e., not for quarantine purposes) in which case they will stop, or - advised to stop by their healthcare professional for other reasons Episodes of symptomatic respiratory illness, including symptomatic COVID-19, and clinical outcomes will be recorded in the Case Record Form during the follow-up period. Community Health Workers that work in collaboration with the NGO Muso Health and the Malian government in both a peri-urban and a rural site in Mali, provide care proactively to the population they form part of. To work, they use a smartphone application that was developed as a job aid to support task management, panel management and clinical decision support functions. For this study, a tool called "Universal Health Coverage Mode" was designed to be integrated into the CHW application to help Community Health Workers visit every household at least twice per month. We hypothesize that Community Health Workers (CHWs) assigned to use Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Mode, a mobile application tool, will achieve higher coverage of homes visited (defined as being visited at least two times in a month) than those without this tool.
