The primary objective of this study is to assess the safety of vatiquinone in participants with inherited mitochondrial disease who had prior exposure to vatiquinone in a PTC/BioElectron sponsored (previously Edison) clinical study or treatment plan. The study will continue until vatiquinone becomes commercially available or the program is terminated.

Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disease, with no disease-modifying treatment available, therapy is therefore only symptomatic. The pathophysiology of the disease is still unclear, but inflammatory mechanisms are reported to play a prominent role. An involvement of peripheral adaptive immunity, with an imbalance in T cell subpopulations and in the expression of transcriptional factors (TF) in Cluster of Differentiation (CD) 4 positive T cells has been reported. An initial aggregation of α-synuclein (α-syn) in the gut with subsequent propagation along the vagus nerve to the brain has also been hypothesised. Interestingly, in an α-syn overexpressing murine model, the absence of gut microbiota prevented both microglia activation and motor impairment, pointing to a fundamental role of the microbiota in the development of PD. It has been shown that in Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMC) of PD patients, probiotics modulate the in vitro production of cytokines toward an anti-inflammatory profile. The investigators developed a clinical trial protocol for the evaluation of probiotics' effects on the peripheral immune system profile in Parkinson's Disease patients. ROS, Lymphocyte subpopulations, TF levels in PBMC will be assessed at baseline and after treatment with a mixture of probiotics in PD patients to assess immunomodulatory effects of said treatment. Motor and non-motor symptoms of PD will also be monitored through the trial period.
The aim of this study is to assess if there are significant differences in periodontal conditions between patients undergoing fixed orthodontic treatment with stainless steel or ceramic brackets. For this study, patients will be enrolled and divided into two groups, according to the type of brackets (stainless steel or ceramic) used for orthodontic treatment. A professional supragingival and subgingival oral hygiene will be performed before the bonding of the orthodontic brackets together with a periodontal evaluation will be recording the following periodontal indices: PPD, BoP, BS, GI, PI, BEWE and Schiff Air Index. Indices will be recorded after 1, 3 and 6 months after the bonding, separately for both in maxillary and in mandibular dental arches and only for teeth with brackets bonded.
BACKGROUND: Stay-at-home orders in response to the Coronavirus 2 (SARSCoV-2) have forced abrupt changes to daily routines. The aim of our study is to evaluate the impact of the Stay-at-home orders on the waiting list for bariatric surgery in our Department of Medical and Surgical during covid-19 pandemic. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this observational retrospective study, from the 9th of March to 18th May 2020, the patients of our Department were invited to answer to a 14-questions multiple-choice questionnaire relative to weight changes, working activity, daily exercise, dietary behaviors, and conditions potentially impacting the nutritional choices

There are very few long-term studies that analyze the immune responses in patients recovered from COVID-19 caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The main aim of this study is to analyze the clinical profile and immune responses of recovered COVID-19 patients in a representative cohort of people in the Umbria region of Italy. The participants had a history of testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 in March 2020 by Reverse Transcriptase- Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-qPCR). The participants were invited for voluntary participation in a seroprevalence study. This study analyzes longitudinally the presence of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 by sequential serological tests at different time points using two FDA-approved Immunoassays. At the first serum sample collection, the participants were asked to provide information about their COVID-19 clinical history including clinical profile, co-morbidities, and treatment undertaken using a standardized questionnaire. Successive sequential serological assessments were conducted to understand the immune responses in these recovered patients. Moreover, stage two of the study involves, analysis of antibody titers in recovered vaccinated individuals and their follow-up.
This study aims to define the contribution of cancer and chemotherapy to muscle and systemic alterations that drive the onset of cachexia in rectal cancer patients and validate in human cancer cachexia (CC) the alterations in mitochondrial function and neuromuscular junction (NMJ) observed in the experimental models, thus providing the rationale for potential anti-cachexia strategies based on exercise and or exercise mimetics.
