The purpose of this study is to test the safety and efficacy of zanamivir given intravenously and how well it works at two different doses in hospitalized adolescents and adults with flu. Zanamivir will be compared with oseltamivir, which is used for treating flu.
ING111762 is a 48 week, randomized, double-blind, active-controlled, multicenter, parallel group, non-inferiority study. The study will be conducted in at least 688 HIV-1 infected antiretroviral experienced, integrase-naïve subjects. Subjects will be randomized 1:1 to receive GSK1349572 50 mg once daily or raltegravir (RAL) 400 mg twice daily, each added to an investigator selected background regimen consisting of at least one fully active agent plus no more than one second single agent which may or may not be active. Antiviral activity, safety, pharmacokinetics (PK), and development of viral resistance will be evaluated.
The herein protocol is based on the results of one former clinical trial conducted by our study group showing the considerable efficacy of intravenously administered clarithromycin as an adjuvant to antimicrobial chemotherapy for patients with sepsis, septic shock and respiratory failure in the field of ventilator-associated pneumonia. The proposed clinical trial is based on the need to generalize the application of intravenous clarithromycin in the total of admitted septic patients irrespective of the underlying cause of sepsis.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is characterized by a progressive decline in lung function and increased symptoms such as breathlessness/dyspnoea, cough and expectoration. Even though subjective in nature, the symptomatology of COPD and mainly that of breathlessness/dyspnoea has been studied with the use of objective measurement tools. Taking into consideration that the symptoms experienced by the patient who suffers from a progressive disease such as COPD can only be perceived and interpreted by the patient him- or herself, and thus difficult to be quantified, COPD remains a challenge in clinical research. Therefore, there is a need to carry out qualitative studies that will provide insight into the wide spectrum of COPD symptomatology from the patient's perspective. In addition, a further mapping of the impact that COPD symptoms' perception has on a patient's life is required, as well as of the different pathways through which symptoms' perception is interpreted regarding the limitations of daily living activities, and the subsequent impact on disease management. The more the physician learns on the embodied experience of COPD, the better he/she may assist the patient in achieving optimal COPD management. Thus this cross-sectional observational study was designed aiming to obtain these data. Specifically, the study aims to evaluate the most frequently used words by the patients and the physicians to express the symptoms of COPD as well as the limitation of activities that it causes.

Periodontal disease is a bacterially-induced inflammation. As such, it can become a point of entry of bacteria, toxins and cytokines into the systemic blood circulation, thus adversely affecting the function of kidneys. This is turn can aggravate the condition of patients with CKD. The study hypothesis is that periodontal therapy can improve renal function in patients with CKD and lower the blood levels of markers for systemic inflammation.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether panitumumab in combination with capecitabine/oxaliplatin are effective as first-line treatment in wild-type k-ras, metastatic colorectal cancer patients.
The present study has been designed to provide current data on GERD prevalence in several regional areas of Greece outside the two major urban centres (Athens and Thessaloniki), to measure the treatment response in GERD patients, and to assess the correlations between the two methods of diagnosing GERD, i.e. reporting of symptoms by the patient to the physician and completion of the GerdQ questionnaire by the patient. Additionally, this study aims to provide data on the prevalence of extraesophageal symptoms in GERD patients in Greece. The XQS questionnaire will be applied for the identification of these patients and the assessment of the extraesophageal disease burden (frequency and intensity/severity). Finally, an association between the GerdQ and XQS scores will be attempted.
