There are about 243 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Cyprus. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
Parkinson's disease is a chronic, neurodegenerative disease of unknown cause, affecting elderly people over the age of 60. It is the second most common neurodegenerative disease, presenting psychomotor signs and symptoms that lead to impaired functionality and quality of life in affected individuals. Mixed reality involves the delivery of digital stimuli in real time and space through spatial mapping using glasses, safely providing multiple iterations to carry out daily activities. Through this tool and in collaboration with technologically skilled mixed reality developers, the software for the rehabilitation program to be applied to Parkinson's disease patients was also developed. The main objective of this clinical study is to examine the effect of a mixed reality program compared to a traditional physiotherapy program on quality of life and motivation for the participation of people with Parkinson's disease.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system. MS, typical presents with progression of clinical symptoms which mainly include motor and cognitive impairment, as well as reduction of patients' quality of life. Exercise is an effective approach in the management of the symptoms in people with progressive MS. Previous studies in healthy and in people with MS, reported a close relationship between cognitive functions and upper limb performance. Since patients with progressive MS facing difficulties with performing complex exercises due to cognitive dysfunctions and given the close relationship between cognitive functions and manual dexterity, a reasonable question arises whether a type of upper limbs exercises with less cognitive demands will improve the information processing speed in people with progressive MS. The aim of the current study is to investigate the effects of in-phase bilateral upper limbs exercises on the information processing speed, in patients with progressive MS, given that in-phase bilateral movements needs less attentional load than the other types of bilateral coordination. The intervention protocol lasted for 12 consecutive weeks (30-60 minutes /session x 3 sessions/week) and included in-phase bilateral exercises of the upper limbs, adapted to different sports activities and to functional training. Results from the statistical analysis indicated improvement of the experimental group compared to the control group, on the information processing speed alongside with improvement of motor skills.
The Internet shows its presence in areas where human beings are actively involved, from education to health, from entertainment to the investment sector. The integration of the Internet into many areas of human life leads to its intensive use. According to the Global Digital Report, the number of individuals with access to the Internet worldwide at the beginning of 2024 is stated as 5.35 billion, and this number constitutes more than 66% of the total world population. One of the pioneering studies on internet addiction was conducted by Young. In this study, five subtypes of internet addiction were identified. These are cyber sex addiction (obsessive use of adult sites such as cyber sex, cyber porn), cyber relationship addiction (excessive involvement in online relationships), net compulsions (online gambling, shopping and trading), information overload (on websites). and constantly surfing databases) and computer addiction (playing computer games). Considering the sub-dimensions of internet addiction, it is seen that it affects many areas of life, from family life to interpersonal relationships, from social life to economic life. Conscious awareness is the awareness of one's internal state and environment. Mindfulness can help people avoid destructive or automatic habits and reactions by learning to observe their thoughts, feelings, and other momentary experiences without judging or reacting. Acting based on awareness is a much different way of life than the autopilot approach in which the individual carries out his daily routines and activities. In studies, mindfulness is examined not only to prevent the recurrence of addiction, but also as a long-term, ongoing health behavior that supports the recovery of addiction. Determining the effect of a mindfulness-based intervention program applied to adolescent nursing students studying at a university on internet addiction and awareness. is intended.
This study aims to evaluate the effect of yoga on physical fitness among healthy primary school children using a randomized control design. A total of 52 children, ages 8-13, will be randomly assigned to either the Yoga Group or the Control Group. Participants will be assessed using the EUROFIT Test Battery as the primary outcome measure. The Yoga Group will do 45-minute yoga sessions twice a week for 10 weeks, while the Control Group will not receive any intervention. Outcome assessments will be repeated at the end of the 10-week intervention period.
The aim of this study is to investigate the early effects of Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT) applied before and after bariatric surgery on respiratory function, respiratory muscle strength and functional capacity in individuals with type 2 diabetes. The study will be conducted with 40 individuals with type 2 diabetes aged between 25-65. Individuals will be randomly assigned to the IMT (trained at 30% of maximum inspiratory pressure with an IMT threshold device) and control group. As measurement parameters, a 6-minute walk test for functional capacity, a spirometry test for respiratory function, and a portable device (Cosmed Pony FX Desktop Spirometer, USA) will be used for respiratory muscle strength. Hand grip strength will be measured with a Baseline dynamometer. All measurements will be repeated on the first day before surgery and on the fourth day before discharge after surgery.
The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between trunk control, upper extremity functionality and balance in children with cerebral palsy and to compare this relationship with healthy sedentary children. This study is carried out through Eastern Mediterranean University Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Pediatric Rehabilitation Unit.
The aim of this study is to compare the effects of progressive clinical Pilates exercises applied as group under the supervision of a physiotherapist and home exercise programs on pain level, physical condition, functional status, psychosocial status and quality of life in individuals with fibromyalgia between the ages of 20-50.
The aim of this study was investigate the comparison of postoperative effects of low laser treatment and platelet-rich fibrin application on mandibular impacted third molar tooth extraction. The study included a total of 60 patients with impacted mandibular third molar. Patients were evaluated in 4 randomly separated groups. In group 1, PRF was applied to the tooth socket. In group 2, PRF was applied to the tooth socket combined with Low Laser Treatment extraorally to the extraction area for three days within surgery day In group 3, Low Laser Treatment was applied to the extraorally to the extraction area for three days within surgery day. In group 4 (control group), tradional osteomy was made. The outcome variables were pain, swelling, the number of analgesics taken, and trismus. These variables were also assessed based on first, second, third, and seventh days following the operation. All of the 4 groups patients were prescribed an 875/125 mg amoxicillin/clavulanic acid tablet twice daily for five days.
Objective: By using the newly designed multifunctional birthing ball, it is aimed to reduce the intense perineal and sacral pain in the first and second stages of labor, to prevent perineal tears, pain and episiotomy opening with perineal heating, to take advantage of the positive effects of the birthing ball on the pelvis to support active labor and shorten the duration of labor, and to increase the satisfaction of mothers with labor by reducing anxiety and pain. Materials and Methods: The multifunctional birthing ball will support the active movements of the pregnant woman, as well as warming the perineum while providing lumbar and back massage. The multifunctional birthing ball was developed by researchers and manufactured by the Near East University 3D Lab. The bottom of the ball is made of flexible and explosion-proof material filled with air. The purpose of the ball is to enable the pregnant woman to make swinging and bouncing movements during active labor. The massager and heating pad will be controlled by a single electronic circuit. Three different massage modes can be selected: continuous, intermittent and fluctuating. The heating pad can be turned on and off with a single button and the temperature can be adjusted (decrease-increase). To prevent overheating and tissue damage, a maximum temperature of 42 °C was fixed on the control. The inner padding is made of a material that protects both the massager and the heating pad from external factors and also serves as a seat. The shape of the device is designed to ensure that the massager is in full contact with the waist when the pregnant woman sits on the ball. The coating of the massage chair and heating pad is made of cleanable material suitable for hospital use.
The aim of this study is to compare the effectiveness of Pilates compared with Cognitive Functional Therapy in adults with chronic neck pain.
