There are about 2320 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Chile. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
Background: depression and chronic diseases are frequently comorbid public health problems. However, clinical guidelines often fail to consider comorbidities. This study protocol describes a cluster randomized trial (CRT) aimed to compare the effectiveness of a collaborative, computer-assisted, psycho-educational intervention versus enhanced usual care (EUC) in the treatment of depressed patients with hypertension and/or diabetes in primary care clinics (PCC) in Santiago, Chile. Methods: two-arm, single-blind, CRT carried out at two municipalities in Santiago, Chile. Eight PCC will be randomly assigned (1:1 ratio within each municipality, 4 PCC in each municipality) to the INTERVENTION or EUC. A total of 360 depressed patients, aged at least 18 years, with Patient Health Questionnaire-9 Item [PHQ-9] scores ≥ 15, and enrolled in the Cardiovascular Health Program at the participating PCC. Patients with alcohol/substance abuse; current treatment for depression, bipolar disorder, or psychosis; illiteracy; severe impairment; and resident in long-term care facilities, will be excluded. Patients in both arms will be invited to use the Web page of the project, which includes basic health education information. Patients in the INTERVENTION will receive eight sessions of a computer-assisted, psycho-educational intervention delivered by trained therapists, a structured telephone calls to monitor progress, and usual medical care for chronic diseases. Therapists will receive biweekly and monthly supervision by psychologist and psychiatrist, respectively. A monthly meeting will be held between the PCC team and a member of the research team to ensure continuity of care. Patients in EUC will receive depression treatment according to clinical guidelines and usual medical care for chronic diseases. Outcome assessments will be conducted at three, six, and twelve months after enrollment. The primary outcome will be depression improvement at six months, defined as ≥ 50% reduction in baseline PHQ-9 scores. Intention-to-treat analyses will be performed.
Severe SARS-CoV-2 disease is characterized by a progressive hypoxemic respiratory failure. Autopsies from these patients show severe endothelial damage with extensive vascular thrombosis, microangiopathy, and occlusion of alveolar capillaries and, finally, evidence of new vessel growth through intussusceptive angiogenesis. This research aims to study endothelial damage and angiogenesis biomarkers and its association with major cardiovascular events.
Introduction: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a new pathology, declared a public health emergency by the World Health Organization, which can have negative consequences for pregnant women and their newborns. It is estimated that 1 in 5 women will develop a mental illness in the perinatal period. COVID-19 pandemic has been associated with anxiety and depression in the population. The current pandemic is a unique stressor with potentially wide-ranging consequences in the perinatal period, but little is known about the impact of COVID-19 on perinatal mental health. Thus, the objective of this study is to explore the experiences of pregnant and new mothers during the current pandemic, particularly its impact on perinatal mental health (including depression, anxiety, PTSD and psychological distress). Methods: The study design is a prospective observational study, with a baseline assessment and three follow-ups: one month; three months; and six months post baseline. This international study will be carried out in 11 European countries (Albania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, France, Greece, Israel, Malta, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom) Chile and Brazil. The study population will comprise pregnant women and new mothers with an infant under six months of age, covering a broad range of women across the perinatal period. Ethics and dissemination: The study and handling of the data will follow all national required data protection standards. Each researcher (or team of researchers) involved will submit the project to their local ethical committee before starting the project. Results from the project will be disseminated in peer reviewed journals and international conferences.
The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the time to confirmed clinical recovery in participants hospitalized with COVID-19. Candidate agents will be evaluated frequently for efficacy and safety, with candidate agents being added to and/or removed from the study on an ongoing basis, depending on the results of their evaluation.
The objective of this study was to compare the clinical effectiveness of personalized thermoformed occlusal splints together with behavioral and self-care therapy in the management of myalgia of the masticatory muscles. A controlled clinical trial was carried out with a total of 46 subjects diagnosed with myalgia according to the diagnostic criteria for temporomandibular disorders (DC / TMD). All subjects were treated with behavioral and self-care therapy (BST) at the beginning of the study, and were then randomized into 4 groups: behavioral and self-care control group; rigid occlusal splint group; soft occlusal splint group and non-occlusive splint group. Follow-ups were carried out at 2, 6 and 10 weeks, where it was evaluated: pain in the masticatory muscles, mandibular range of motion, mandibular functional limitation and occlusal discomfort.
Pilot study of 10 preterm, who are going to be randomly placed to 3 phases : 2 hour of basal observation of respiratory rate, heart rate, saturation, NIPS and aEEG recording, 2 hours with a 20cycles/minute with "scare ventilator", and 2 hours of 40 cycles/minute with "scare ventilator"
Objective: Analyze health care workers' perception of patient safety during the COVID 19 pandemic. Methodology: Analytical cross-sectional observational study, with a quantitative focus on healthcare workers who are working on-site during the pandemic in the services of healthcare institutions that agree to participate in the countries where the study will be conducted, by applying a survey of patient safety perceptions in healthcare workers in times of pandemic. Analysis of the data will employ descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to meet the objectives of the study using IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows version 25.0 software. Expected results: The study seeks to generate evidence for the perception of patient safety in times of pandemic, for which it will generate the submission of an article with the results obtained to an indexed journal and presentation at a scientific event.
This study aims to evaluate the safety, tolerability and efficacy of molnupiravir (MK-4482) compared to placebo. The primary hypothesis is that molnupiravir is superior to placebo as assessed by the percentage of participants who are hospitalized and/or die through Day 29

Substance use and drug related disorders are important public health problems. Alcohol and illicit drug use account for 5.4% of the total burden of disease and the peak has been found in early adulthood (between ages 20 and 30 years). Substance use is one of the leading problems among Chilean adolescents. One out of four 8 th to 12 th graders have smoked cigarettes in the last month. A 35.6% of students (37%, girls; 34.2%, boys) between Year 8 and Year 12 have reported any alcohol use during the last month. It is worrying that a third of 14 years old students report using alcohol in the last month in Chile. Furthermore, two out of three who are using alcohol, report regularly using 5 or more drinks in a row during the last month. Cannabis use among young Chileans has increased in recent years. Today, one out of five students between Year 8 and Year 12 referred cannabis use during the last 30 days. Almost a 20% of students in Year 8 have used cannabis in the last year. Therefore, is urgent to provide evidence-based drug preventive interventions to the Chilean population, specifically to school students, to tackle this problem and reduce the risk for a more dramatic future health scenario. The aim of this study was to assess the acceptability and feasibility of the cultural adaptation of "Yo Sé Lo Que Quiero" program. This is a pilot randomized controlled trial. The participants of this pilot were students attending six low-income primary schools in Santiago, Chile.
