This is a multi-center screening study with the primary objective to determine the prevalence of KIT D816V mutation in peripheral blood in patients with evidence of systemic mast cell activation (MCA).
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia. This study is to assess the heart rhythm device accuracy of five cardiac wearable devices (Apple Watch, Kardia Mobile/Kardia Mobile 6L, Fitbit Sense, Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 and Withings Scanwatch, Withings SA, Model Number: HWA09) and its detection algorithms in identifying AF compared to a nearly simultaneously acquired physician-interpreted 12-lead ECG in a real world cohort of patients.
Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) has become an established treatment for cuff arthropathy, severe osteoarthritis and in certain fracture cases. Due to the increasingly aging population, patients who have already exceeded their life-expectancy pose a significant challenge to the shoulder surgeon. Therefore, we wanted to investigate patient demographics, hospital stay length, complication rate functional outcome, patient reported outcome scores and mortality retrospectively for patients, who were older than 83 years at time of implantation of a RTSA.
This study is to set up a flexible trial platform using two existing national cohorts of immunocompromised patients (i.e. Swiss HIV Cohort Study [SHCS] and Swiss Transplant Cohort Study [STCS]) to assess the comparative effectiveness and safety of approved SARS-CoV-2 vaccines in immunocompromised patients. This platform will be tested in the frame of an exploratory pilot trial and a framework will be set up to conduct a larger, flexible, randomized controlled trial (RCT) to test approved SARS-CoV-2 vaccines to prevent SARS-CoV-2 infections. The first sub-protocol for a pilot trial is to investigate the operability of a platform trial that is nested into two existing cohort studies and compare immune response, safety and clinical efficacy of the first two mRNA vaccines (Comirnaty® by Pfizer / BioNTech and COVID-19 mRNA Vaccine Moderna®, by Moderna) in immune compromised patients in the Swiss HIV and Swiss Transplant Cohort studies. The second sub-protocol (observational study) is to collect a blood sample before the third vaccination and 8 weeks after vaccination to analyze an additional benefit of a third SARS-CoV-2 vaccine in these immunocompromised patients. In the third sub-protocol (substudy-3; observational) we will recruit patients who have received m-RNA-1273.214 by Moderna in the frame of clinical routine. We will start a second arm of our observational study as soon as another bivalent mRNA vaccine (from Pfizer-BioNTech) has been approved by Swissmedic. We aim to compare the immunologic response and safety of the bivalent mRNA-1273.214 vaccine from Moderna among immunocompromised persons (persons living with HIV or kidney or lung transplant recipients) to the immunologic response of immunocompromised persons who received the bivalent mRNA vaccine from Pfizer-BioNTech.
The aim is to find out more about how corneal sensory fibres react to different types of stimuli (liquid / tactile / nylon thread) and how this can be consciously perceived by the individual. Is it possible to generate a stimulus that delivers a repeatable and reliable response within a useful stimulus force range which allows an interpretation / evaluation of normal / expected activity of superficial nerve fibres in the cornea? The study group will be divided into three groups of individuals: two groups with different types of contact lenses (CL) and one without CL, as sensitivity changes are thought to occur with CL wear. A very interesting research question is to find out, if such sensitivity differences can be detected with the nature of the stimuli applied in this study.
This is a single centre prospective observational study to assess the immune response to SARS-CoV-2 vaccines in cancer patients receiving active treatment or in follow-up at the IOSI and in non-cancer patients (age and gender matched).
The Epios early feasibility study aims to explore the uses of novel sub-scalp lead devices in the detection of epileptic seizures. Epios leads are inserted subcutaneously through dedicated tunneling toolkits and have been designed for continuous EEG recording in inpatients. This clinical investigation is part of a stepwise program to validate the entire Epios system and it starts with the validation of the Epios leads alone in this two steps study.
This proof-of-concept study aims to investigate whether malt-derived ingredients have acute prolactinotrophic effects in healthy women of child-bearing age.
Single arm, prospective, multi-center, trial designed to enrol approximately 66 patients. All patients will undergo PCI using at least one RISE SC balloon as per routine clinical practice and will be followed until discharge for data collection. Patients will be enrolled in up to 5 investigational sites in Switzerland. The patients will be followed up until discharge or until 7 days, whichever comes first.
The progression of neurodegenerative disorders and the increasing number of elderly people intensifies the need of institutional care, which contrasts with the desire of most elderly and patients to live independently at home. The rapid evolution of assistive technology offers new possibilities in providing medical professionals preventive services in real-time. Therefore, the main focus of this study is on the individual sensors and how they can be combined to one unobtrusive system to assess the human behaviour and daily activities during day and night in an instrumented apartment in healthy participants.
