NCT ID: NCT03802734 Enrolling by invitation - Pregnancy Clinical Trials

Perinatal Effects of Mindfulness Phone App Use in Pregnancy (PaMPPr Study)

PaMPPr
Start date: August 15, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

There is evidence to show that mindful meditation has a positive impact on health. To date, all the studies done to investigate the effect of mindfulness on pregnancy outcomes have been done through a traditional 8-10 weeks mindfulness classroom program with some home practice. This time-intensive classroom training may be expensive and not convenient for many busy pregnant women. This study will investigate the use of a smartphone app-based intervention to determine if it has the potential to make mindfulness training more accessible, acceptable, and convenient to a larger number of pregnant women. The use of an app as opposed to traditional structured classes may increase a woman's ability and willingness to practice mindfulness because the app can be used almost anywhere and at any time. This pilot study aims to explore the feasibility and acceptability of a smartphone mindfulness meditation application for pregnant women. As well, this study will compare the pregnancy outcomes of women who use the app to those women who do not use the app.

NCT ID: NCT03745924 Enrolling by invitation - Haemophilia B Clinical Trials

A Study Following Males With Haemophilia B on Prophylaxis With Refixia/REBINYN

Start date: April 1, 2019
Phase:
Study type: Observational

This study will collect information on side effects and how well Refixia/REBINYN works during long-term treatment (prophylaxis) in males with haemophilia B. While taking part in this study, participants will receive the same treatment as given to them by their study doctor. All visits at the clinic are done in the same way as the participants are used to. During visits at the clinic, participants might be asked for some relevant tests if considered useful by their study doctor. During the visits, the participants study doctor might ask if the participants had any side effects since their last study visit. The participants will be asked to note down the number of bleeds and the treatment of their bleeds as well as their regular prophylaxis. During the visits to the clinic, the participants will be asked to answer some questionnaires about their quality of life and their ability to be physically active. The participant's participation in the study will last for 4-9 years, depending on when they join the study. Participants are free to leave the study at any time and for any reason. This will not affect their current and future medical care.

NCT ID: NCT03689049 Enrolling by invitation - Aged Clinical Trials

SPIDER: A Research & QI Collaboration Supporting Practices in Improving Care for Complex Elderly Patients

SPIDER
Start date: March 26, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Elders living with multiple chronic conditions often take many drugs (polypharmacy); some of the drugs may not benefit them or may be harmful. The Canadian Institute for Health Information has reported that about one-quarter of Canadian seniors are prescribed ten or more different drugs each year. Polypharmacy can result in poorer health, reduced quality of life and high healthcare costs. Choosing Wisely Canada and the Canadian Deprescribing Network have suggested wiser uses for the following four Potentially Inappropriate Prescriptions (PIPs): drugs that reduce stomach acid; reduce anxiety and induce sleep; treat agitation; and treat type 2 diabetes but have a high risk of low blood sugar. To improve care for elderly patients living with polypharmacy, we propose SPIDER: a Structured Process Informed by Data, Evidence and Research. Using quality improvement (QI) and supported by Electronic Medical Record (EMR) data, SPIDER will invite family doctors, nurses, pharmacists and front desk staff to participate in Learning Collaboratives and learn from each other. The practice teams will work with a QI Coach to identify areas to improve, develop strategies and implement changes tailored to the local practice context. The objective of this study is to determine whether SPIDER will reduce PIPs for patients 65 years or older who are on ten or more different drugs. The study will also explore patient experience and provider satisfaction with SPIDER and assess the cost of running SPIDER. The study will first be tested for feasibility in Toronto, Edmonton and Montreal. Findings will then guide a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) in Calgary, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax where practices enrolled in the SPIDER intervention will be compared with those in usual care.

NCT ID: NCT03683186 Enrolling by invitation - Hypertension Clinical Trials

NCT ID: NCT03681977 Enrolling by invitation - Clinical trials for Osteoarthritis, Knee

Clinical Outcomes of MP Persona vs. Persona Knee-PS

MP-Persona
Start date: September 1, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a highly prevalent condition that results in substantial pain and loss of function. The end stage treatment for knee OA is total knee arthroplasty (TKA), a common and safe procedure typically performed for relief of symptoms. However, an increasing number of patients are complaining about their TKA due to altered sensations between their previous joint and the implant. Although several designs have been proposed to improve these outcomes, the knee kinematics after TKA remains different from physiological kinematics. The Medial Pivot TKA design was introduced to closely mimic normal knee kinematics and create the natural feeling of the knee. This study is intended to evaluate the clinical effectiveness and ability to restore knee motion of two TKA devices: the Medial Pivot Persona TKA Zimmer design with the traditional Zimmer Persona Knee-PS. The investigator's hypothesis is that the Medial Pivot design will results in better patient outcomes and restore knee motion at natural parameters.
