Filter by:A significant proportion of patients who undergo liver surgery to remove bowel cancer that has spread to the liver (metastases) develop disease recurrence and die from the disease. A previous small study (the EMT study) suggested a possible survival benefit in patients who took the naturally-occurring omega-3 fatty acid EPA (a fish oil supplement) before liver surgery. The EMT2 study is a larger study which will recruit 448 men and women with liver metastases from bowel cancer. Trial participants will receive either Icosapent Ethyl (pure EPA derived from fish oil) or placebo (dummy capsules). EMT2 will investigate whether patients who take this supplement before liver surgery and for up to four years after surgery, remain free of recurrence for longer than those who take placebo (dummy capsules)
The goal of this clinical research study is to learn if durvalumab and trametinib can help to control microsatellite stable (MSS) colorectal cancer. The safety of these drugs will also be studied. This is an investigational study. Durvalumab is FDA approved and commercially available for the treatment of previously treated advanced bladder cancer. Trametinib is FDA approved in combination with another drug called dabrafenib for the treatment of unresectable or metastatic melanoma with BRAF V600E or BRAF V600K. It is investigational to use durvalumab and trametinib to treat MSS colorectal cancer. Up to 56 participants will be enrolled in this study. All will take part at MD Anderson.
The main cause of recurrence after surgical treatment of colon cancer is distant metastasis. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy has potential benefits of improving the effectiveness of chemotherapy. Preoperative chemotherapy may eradicate microscopic metastatic cancer cells earlier than adjuvant chemotherapy, reduce cancer cell spillage during surgery, and lessen the invasiveness of surgical resection. This randomized multicenter phase III trial is assessing whether preoperative chemotherapy improves oncologic outcomes of patients with locally advanced colon cancer.
The study aims to compare the results between a standard colonoscopy to a colonoscopy with an attachment on the distal end of the colonoscope.
The study is divided into two parts. The first part of the study will test various doses of ASN007 to find out the highest safe dose to test in five specific groups. The second part of the study will test how well ASN007 can control cancer.
The purpose of this study to evaluate and examine whether use of Hybrid Argon Plasma Coagulation (APC) as an adjunct to endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) will reduce the risk of residual or recurrent neoplasia at 6 months. Hybrid APC is an existing FDA approved device used to assist with ablation of abnormal tissue anywhere in the GI tract.
Background: ETBX-011, ETBX-061, and ETBX-051 are cancer vaccines. Their goal is to teach the immune system to target and kill cancer cells. The vaccines target 3 proteins found in many types of cancer. Researchers think targeting all 3 proteins in unison will have the best results. Objective: To test the safety of combining ETBX-011, ETBX-061, and ETBX-051 and their effects on the immune system. Eligibility: People ages 18 and older with advanced cancer that has not responded to standard therapies Design: Participants will be screened with: Medical history Physical exam Blood, urine, and heart tests Scan: They will lie in a machine that takes pictures of the body. Participants will receive the 3 vaccines through 3 shots under the skin every 3 weeks for 3 doses, then every 8 weeks for up to 1 year. They will have blood and urine tests at each vaccine visit. They will have scans and other measurements of their tumor after 9 weeks and then at their vaccine visits every 8 weeks. Participants will keep a diary of symptoms at the injection site. Participants will have a visit 90 days after their final treatment. This will include a physical exam and blood and urine tests. If they have any ongoing side effects, they will be followed until these end or are not changing. After this visit, they will be called every 3 months for the first year, every 6 months for the next 2 years, then every 12 months for another 2 years to see how they are doing. Participants will have the option to enroll in a long-term follow-up study. ...
Cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) has been reported to be an effective treatment approach for peritoneal cancer, however, the stress response to HIPEC is major neuroendocrine and cytokine response, which has been considered as the homeostatic defense mechanism. Recently, dexmedetomidine has been suggested to exhibit anti-inflammatory properties. This study was designed to evaluate the effect of perioperative administration of dexmedetomidine on inflammation response and postoperative outcomes in patients undergoing hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) cytoreductive surgery.
This study seeks to compare colonoscopy results between a standard method and one using a distal scope attachment (Endocuff Vision).
Current recommendations for colonoscopy screening programs usually involve patients older than 50 years of age. However, little is known about polyp or adenoma detection rates under 50. We compared these detection rates according to age in a large series of patients in common practice. Methods: All colonoscopies performed in 2016 in our unit were prospectively recorded. We determined adenoma detection rate (ADR), polyp detection rate (PDR), mean number of polyps (MNP), and advanced neoplasia detection rate (ANDR).
