Exercise to Slow Cardiovascular Ageing Progression

In ageing, deleterious alterations in cardiovascular (CV) structure and function increase risks of ageing-related cardiovascular disease (CVD). Investigators found that these CV alterations were associated with circulating serum metabolites, suggesting a metabolic basis to CV ageing. Investigators hypothesize that modification of these metabolites by intervention, such as exercise, may retard CV alterations and reduce CVD in ageing.

The COVID-19 health crisis has led to a drastic decrease in the rate of myocardial infarction without the causes being completely identified. They are probably multiple, but this crisis has confirmed the need for massive health data from different horizons to better assess coronary disease in order to develop precision medicine. This objective is now achievable thanks to the use of tools such as big data and artificial intelligence (AI). Our team is developing algorithms to analyze medical images and identify people at risk of major cardiovascular events. These algorithms which are developed with retrospective data must be validated on prospective data, which is the objective of the Grenoble cardiovascular digital health data observatory. The algorithm that will be validated is currently being created as part of a RIPH 3 study "AIDECORO" (NCT: 04598997). It is being developed from clinical, biological and imaging data from 600 patients with ST+ infarction and 1000 "control" patients who have undergone coronary angiography (these data are exported and stored in the PREDIMED health data warehouse via the hospital information system).

The Impact of Green Spaces on the General Well-being and Stress of Students

The number of students with psychological problems is on the rise, due to a combination of increasing performance pressure, high expectations, difficulties handling stress, social pressure, and studying. Spending time in a green space has been shown to have positive effects on the mental and general health. This project aims to alleviate the symptoms of mental fatigue and stress related disorders such as burn out in students by offering a nature-based activity. Participants are asked to take a thirty-minute walk in a nature-based area for five consecutive days, followed by a control period (regular schedule of the participant) for five days, or vice versa. The investigators test stress-related parameters including concentration tests, cognitive tests, cortisol levels, and cardiovascular measurements.

Physical Activity Program for Cardiac Health Among Older African American Populations

Cardiovascular Diseases (CVD) are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally, and older African Americans (AAs) living in rural areas are disproportionately affected by this healthcare problem. The investigators propose conducting a mixed-methods study to gain information about CVD-related knowledge, perceptions regarding CVD-related healthcare needs, preferences and access barriers, and cultural aspects within this population. The information will be used in tailoring an existing intervention to meet those needs and preferences and evaluate its feasibility among older AAs living in rural Alabama. This study will lay a foundation for developing a federal grant application and a line of independent research by this early-stage investigator.

Early mobility in the post cardiovascular surgical patient can dramatically impact patient outcomes. Utilizing an innovative strategy, like a wearable activity monitor, can potentially provide: accurate data on post-operative mobility level; increased motivation and self-efficacy in the recovering patient; data to potentially drive post-operative mobility goal setting. Use of a wearable activity monitor will reduce time needed to return to pre-operative activity level in the cardiovascular surgical patient.
