Assesment of Intermediate Vision After BIL Cataract Surgery

The goal of this observational study is to learn about the intermediate and near vision in patiënts who underwent cataract surgery with a specific technique, called "bag in the lens". The main question it aims to answer is whether patiens who underwent this type of cataract surgery have better intermediate vision without spectacle correction than patients who underwent the classic lens in the bag cataract surgery. Participants will: - Have to read with and without spectacle correction at different distances (4 meters, 66 centimeters, 40 centimeters) - Have to fill in 2 questionnaires about visual functioning and spectacle independance Researchers will compare these values to the same values from the standard population who underwent the classic lens in the bag cataract surgery with a monofocal intraocular lens .

Physical exercise induces numerous changes in the body in a complex signalling network caused by or in response to increased metabolic activity of contracting skeletal muscles. The application of omics analytical techniques such as proteomics and metabolomics in the field of sport allows us to understand how the human body responds to exercise and how sports results can be improved by optimising nutrition and training. Both omics techniques offer a quantitative measurement of the metabolic profiles associated with exercise and are able to identify metabolic signatures of athletes from different sports disciplines. Basketball is a high-intensity exercise modality interspersed with low-intensity. The performance requirements of basketball include aerobic and anaerobic metabolism, with anaerobic metabolism being considered the main energy system. Therefore, basketball players need great athletic ability to produce a successful performance during competition. For optimal sports performance it is important to adjust the training load, i.e. the degree of effort that the player can withstand in a single training session. Coaches require effective and objective load monitoring tools that allow them to make decisions about training plans based on the needs of each player. Microsampling systems emerge as an alternative to venipuncture by facilitating self-sampling, which can be carried out outside healthcare centres, in a comfortable and precise way from a small finger prick that the user can perform. These systems are less expensive and can be effective in measuring the levels of glucose metabolism products, such as lactate, through the application of metabolomics and proteomics. On the other hand, the use of non-invasive methods of measuring lactate levels is becoming increasingly popular in sports medicine. The use of saliva as an alternative fluid to the blood shows promise for identifying the concentrations of metabolites that occur during and after sports training.

Although there are reviews and guidelines for treating IBS, the complexity and diversity of IBS manifestations make treatment difficult. By detecting and exploring the biological characteristics presented by the relevant meridian point reaction, this project clarified the specificity and regularity of the connection between the acupoint and the Zangfu reflected by this phenomenon, and conducted correlation analysis based on the intestinal flora, tryptophan metabolite levels and related scales of patients with IBS.

Mental health art exhibitions, as an intervention strategy integrating artistic expression and social contact, have the potential to positively impact the elimination of stigma and discrimination associated with mental health problems. This study will utilize a real-world quasi-randomized controlled trial design and a 6-month follow-up questionnaire survey to evaluate the intervention's impact on stigma/discrimination and related outcomes, such as mental health literacy. The evaluation will encompass four categories of people: those with lived experience of mental disorders, family members and friends of those with lived experience, health professionals, and the general public. Additionally, the cost-effectiveness of the art exhibition intervention will be analyzed.

Remote Telemedicine Fetal Monitoring Feasibility Study

During pregnancy, certain conditions may arise that mean regular monitoring of both mother and baby are needed to ensure timely interventions and avoid the need for further treatments. These situations include problems with high blood pressure, obstetric cholestasis (characterised by liver-related itchiness), preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM), and a history of stillbirth. Monitoring typically involves assessing the mother's blood pressure and urine, recording the baby's heart rate over a specific duration, and conducting regular ultrasound scans. Such monitoring can require frequent hospital visits, often multiple times a week, which can be very time consuming. More recently, new technology has emerged, enabling remote monitoring of mother and baby outside of the hospital setting, such as their own home. However, research on these technologies is still very limited. Our study aims to address this research gap by inviting women with the above conditions to volunteer for home-based monitoring, alongside their routine hospital care. Participants will be divided into three groups: one group will use transducers, attached to the mothers tummy, to capture the baby's heartbeat; another group will use a handheld ultrasound device connected to their mobile phones, allowing them to observe the baby; and a third group will use both devices. All device information will be transmitted securely to the healthcare professional for analysis. The investigators aim to assess the feasibility of conducting remote monitoring of mother and baby, whilst understanding how acceptable the technology is received. Importantly, the data collected will only be evaluated by the research team and will not be intended to influence patient's current planned antenatal care. Women will receive comprehensive training on the devices. The study will additionally gather feedback from participating women through questionnaires, both at the study's outset and its conclusion, regarding their experiences and emotions related to the research.
