Double Duty Interventions and Its Impact on Double Burden of Malnutrition in Children Under Five Years

Background: Double burden of malnutrition is an emerging public health problem among children under-five years due to the inevitable consequences of nutritional transition. Addressing these two contrasting forms of malnutrition (undernutrition and overnutrition) simultaneously brings an enormous challenge to the food and nutrition policies of developing countries like Ethiopia. Children under five ages are more vulnerable to DBM, especially during the first year of their life due to high growth and inadequate diet. Hence, there has been a paradigm shift in thinking to reduce its effect on the health of children. However, interventions that are used to address these different kinds of malnutrition are implemented through different governance and still, they are isolated and disintegrated each other. Therefore, double-duty interventions can tackle the risk of both nutritional problems simultaneously in an integrated approach through nutrition behavior change communication. Objective: Therefore, the main aim of this pilot study is to assess the effect of selected double-duty interventions on the double burden of malnutrition among children under five years in Debre Berhan City, Ethiopia.

The goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate the diagnostic potential of Artificial Intelligence-assisted Fecal Microbiome Testing for the diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease. The main question it aims to answer is: • Is Artificial Intelligence-assisted Fecal Microbiome Testing a reliable screening test for inflammatory bowel disease? Participants will be asked to provide fecal samples to be analyzed with next-generation sequencing techniques. If there is a comparison group: Researchers will compare the diagnostic performance of AI-assisted Fecal Microbiome Testing with colonoscopy to see the correlation between the results of both interventions.

The Effects of Allicor on Patients After Coronary Arteria Revascularization Treatment

Coronary revascularization interventions such as coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) are the standard of surgical treatment of patients with myocardial ischemia. However, up to 30% of patients experience complications of varying degrees within 12 months after the revascularization, or need for second intervention. Thus, it is necessary to search for additional approaches to the postoperative treatment of patients in order to improve the long-term results of revascularization treatment. Substances of natural origin with an anti-atherosclerotic effect have a good potential. These substances, as dietary supplements, can be taken by patients for a long time in conjunction with other prescribed medicines and treatments. Another valuable direction of investigations is the search for predictors of long-term cardiovascular complications after revascularization, which can be markers of inflammation and heteroplasmy levels of the patient's mitochondrial genome. The purpose of this study is to determine whether the intake of dietary supplement Allicor at a daily dose of 300 mg affects the frequency of long-term postoperative cardiovascular complications and re-intervention in patients after revascularization operations on the coronary arteries. The second goal is assessing the relationship between the grade monocytes inflammatory response and the level of heteroplasmy of the mitochondrial genome of blood leukocytes with the frequency of cardiovascular complications and re-interventions.

Novel MRI Techniques on Evaluation of Lymphedema

In this project, the investigators aim to investigate the imaging approaches for breast cancer-related secondary lymphedema. The clinical study aims to optimize the conventional MRI methods for mapping lymphedema and assess the post-surgical therapeutic effects in longitudinal follow-up studies. Additionally, a normal imaging database of lymphedema MRI images will be established for future reference. For pre-clinical animal study, investigators aim to develop and integrate two novel MRI methods, including free water elimination diffusion MRI and diffusion kurtosis MRI techniques. By integrating clinical and pre-clinical studies, the investigators aim to establish a precise imaging tool for evaluating the therapeutic effects of lymphedema for following translational applications.

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the feasibility of introducing, implementing, and integrating a brief, existent elder mistreatment screening tool (the National Collaboratory to Address Elder Mistreatment (NCAEM)'s Elder Mistreatment - Screening And Response Tool (EM-SART) Pre-Screen) in the Memorial Herman Hospital (MHH)-Texas Medical Center (TMC)Acute Care of Elders(ACE) (MHH-TMC ACE) unit and to identify older adults who may already be suffering from abuse, neglect, and/or financial exploitation, as well as connecting the study participants to the primary Geriatric Medicine team on the ACE unit such that additional care, evaluation (including additional in-depth mistreatment screening), and intervention can be taken to prevent and minimize further harm prior to discharge. The investigators hope to reduce missed opportunities for mistreatment detection to lead to safer health outcomes and hospital discharges.
