Filter by:Since 2017, a revolution began in the departments of nuclear medicine, with the routine use of gamma-cameras with semiconductor. These gamma-cameras (which obtained the CE-marking in 2016), offer a technological breakthrough by providing an additional information. They allow "to quantify" for the 1st time in clinical routine conditions, the quantity of radioactivity, by means of a "SUVspect", in a volume of interest, while respecting the recommendations of best practice of the learned societies of French nuclear medicine (SFMN), European (EANM) and American (SNM), without injection of tracer nor acquisition or additional irradiation. The SUVspect is therefore an indicator of the quantity of tracer in a given volume of acquisition. Until now, the interpretation criteria of scintigraphies are based on the homogeneity of distribution of a tracer in the explored organ (for single organs such as the heart or the thyroid, for example) or in the asymmetry of distribution of the tracer (for the double organs, such as the kidney or the joints). This new gamma-camera allows to study the distribution of the radio-tracers in "list" mode, allowing to retrospectively reconstruct the images in various ways (for example, by modifying the size of the matrix of acquisition, the energy windows, the time of acquisition). Therefore, we can simulate and propose modifications in current procedures. Every patient referred to our department of nuclear medicine to undergo a scintigraphy with a tracer of nuclear medicine (with a marketing authorization) can, while benefiting from an examination by this gamma-camera, to be the object of this study, and to profit from this additional information. So, without changing the diagnosis or the usual care, we wish to take advantage of this additional information to improve the criteria of interpretation of our examinations. This possibility being new, there is no available bibliography (our department is the 5th department of nuclear medicine in Europe to equip itself with this large field-of-view gamma-camera CZT, the DNM 670, made by General Electric), while 2961 articles speak about the SUVmax (in PET) in Pubmed.
The objective of this trial is to collect and compare safety and effectiveness data of Magnetic Resonance guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS) using the ExAblate 2100 device and radiotherapy in the treatment of metastatic bone tumors. This study is designed as a prospective, double arm, non-randomized study with External Beam radiation therapy (EBRT) serving as control arm. The study hypothesis is that MRgFUS is an effective non-invasive and safe treatment for the palliation of metastatic bone tumors with a low incidence of co-morbidity as compared to EBRT.
Physical activity is a key stimulus for bone metabolism through both direct mechanisms (e.g., as a result of the applied load and/or impact) and indirect mechanisms (e.g., the activation of several metabolic pathways and the production of several mediators and effectors that have systemic effects). However, different kinds of physical activity exert different effects on bone and endocrine system. Aim of the study is to investigate the effects of different kinds of physical activity on bone metabolism and on the relationships existing between bone metabolism, energy metabolism, hormone profile, and organ functionality.
Background: The adrenal gland makes the hormone aldosterone. This helps regulate blood pressure. An adrenal gland tumor that makes too much aldosterone can cause high blood pressure and low potassium. The cause of these tumors is unknown, but sometimes they are inherited. Objective: To study the genes that may cause primary aldosteronism in Black individuals. Eligibility: People ages 18-70 who: Are Black, African American, or of Caribbean descent And have difficult to control blood pressure or primary aldosteronism Relatives of people with primary aldosteronism Design: Participants who are relatives of people with primary aldosteronism will have only 1 visit, with medical history and blood tests. Participants with primary aldosteronism or difficult to control blood pressure (suspected to possibly have primary aldosteronism) will be screened with a 1-2 hour visit. If they qualify, they will return for a hospital stay for 7-10 days. Tests may include: Medical history Physical exam Blood tests: Participants will have a small tube (IV catheter) inserted in a vein in the arm. They may drink a glucose-containing liquid or get a salt solution. If medically indicated, they may have invasive blood tests with a separate consent. Urine tests: Some require a high-salt diet for 3 days. Heart tests Scans: Participants lie in a machine that takes pictures of the body. A dye may be injected through a vein. Small hair sample taken from near the scalp. Kidney ultrasound Bone density scan: Participants lie on a table while a camera passes over the body. If the doctors feel it is medically necessary, they will offer participants treatment depending on their results. These treatments may cure the patient of their disease and may include: 1. Having one adrenal gland removed by the Endocrine surgeon under anesthesia. Patients will have follow-up visits 2-4 weeks after surgery. 2. Taking drugs to block the effects of aldosterone Participants may return about 1 year later to repeat testing.
The study investigates the association between normalization of serum sodium levels and bone markers in patients with epilepsy and chronic hyponatremia. The study is a randomized, single blinded, placebo controlled study where participants will be randomized to either treatment with salt tablets or placebo tablets through 4 months. At the beginning and end of the 4 months bone markers will be measured. The investigators null-hypothesis is that there will be no difference in bone markers before or after the intervention.
the objective of this study is to : -Determinate wether the circulating levels of iFGF23 and klotho can be a predictor biomarker of HF in patients with CKD-MBD.
This is a novel, non-invasive method of assessing Ca balance by natural Ca isotope fractionation.
Background. Bone infections can involve the vertebral column, intervertebral disc space, spinal canal and soft tissues, can generate neurological deficit in addition to the destruction of the bone that causes functional disability. Vertebral osteomyelitis is the most frequent, affecting 2 to 7 patients per 100,000 habitants. Management is bone debridement and bone reconstruction. Objective. Demonstrate that the use of bone allograft is a functional method to stabilize the spine after a bone spinal infection Material and methods. Patients with vertebral bone destruction are included in two groups. Bone allograft group will receive bone structural allograft; Auto and allograft group will receive bone structural allograft plus autograft. The bone reconstruction will be performed in a one-time surgical procedure. Bone consolidation, pain, functionality, and spine deformity will be evaluated.
This study aims to use 3D-printed personalized metal implants for bone defect surgeries in order to reduce pain of the patients.
Patients with posterior calcaneal deformity may presented by many clinical data associated with retrocalcaneal bursitis which occurs due to the deformity this clinical complaining include pain and swelling in the back of the heel. Many treatment choices available of this deformity with low level of response to conservative treatment which includes medical treatment , physiotherapy and corticosteroids injection. surgical treatment in cases of HAGLUND deformity is the treatment of choice including either endoscopic or open surgical approach for this deformity .
