Cannabis for Palliative Care in Cancer

Many cancer patients suffer from pain, sleep, and mood problems and are using cannabis to relieve these symptoms. Cannabis may provide such relief but may also produce negative side effects including cognitive impairment, an especially problematic issue for cancer patients, indicating more research on cannabis use in the cancer context is required. In this endeavor, the present study seeks to compare the use of hemp-derived CBD (Cannabidiol) with and without THC (Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) versus placebo on measures of sleep, pain, mood, subjective and objective cognitive functioning, and quality of life within 185 cancer patients.

Psychological Support Group and Its Effects on Mood, Anxiety and Coping

The aim of this study is to verify the influence that participation in a Psychological Support Group has on anxiety, depression and coping skills in patients admitted to the IRCCS San Camillo Hospital. It is therefore an observational study with a pre-post design on a cohort of patients hospitalized at San Camillo IRCCS who attend the Psychological Support Group. The study consists of verifying whether the therapeutic activity of the Psychological Support Group (GSP) has an influence on the levels of anxiety, mood and coping skills in the patients who attend it. These purposes will be pursued through the administration to each patient at the beginning (pre) and at the end (post) of the period of attendance at the GSP, of validated scales: Stay Y2 (anxiety), BDI II(depressive symptoms), COPE NVD 25 (coping strategies) and the CORE-OM (outcomes of psychological activity).

This study will examine the effect of the Alexander Technique on labor pain and anxiety during labor. This study is designed as a randomized controlled experimental study. The population of the study consists of primiparous pregnant women who applied to Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital, D-Block Maternity Hospital between November 2023 and May 2024. In calculating the sample size, G*Power (3.1.9.6) program was used to calculate the sample size with an error of 0.05, effect level of 0.5, power of 95%, and the required sample size for 2 groups was calculated as 34 people for each group with a total of 68 people.

The Effect of Mandala Therapy on Anxiety and Comfort in Kidney Transplant Recipients

The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of mandala art therapy on the anxiety and comfort levels of living kidney transplant recipients. While kidney transplantation improves the recipients' quality of life, it may also expose them to psychological, physical, and social challenges post-transplant. This situation can increase recipients' levels of anxiety, making them cope with psychiatric issues and affecting their comfort levels. Feeling psychologically and physiologically comfortable is a crucial component of a successful recovery process for recipients. Mandala art therapy is known as an effective method that supports the mental health, physical functioning, and social and emotional well-being of individuals with health issues. Mandalas can contribute to comfort by promoting inner peace, focusing attention, and encouraging creative expression. This study aims to investigate the impact of mandala art therapy on anxiety and comfort levels in kidney transplant recipients. To achieve this goal, a mixed-methods study using a randomized controlled and nested experimental design is planned. The results of this study will provide valuable insights to healthcare providers by elucidating the impact of mandala art therapy on comfort and anxiety levels in living kidney transplant recipients. This information may guide healthcare professionals in enhancing kidney transplant recipients' psychological and emotional well-being, reducing stress, and promoting higher levels of comfort through mandala art therapy. H0a: There is no effect of Mandala Art Therapy on the perceived anxiety level in living kidney transplant recipients. H0b: There is no effect of Mandala Art Therapy on the comfort level of living kidney transplant recipients.

Hybrid Type 1 Randomized Pilot Trial of a Peer-led Family and Social Strengthening Group Intervention for Refugee Families

The proposed study draws on prior research to evaluate the feasibility, acceptability and explore preliminary effectiveness of Coffee and Family Education and Support, Version (CAFES2) using a pilot randomized type 1 hybrid effectiveness-implementation design. CAFES2 is a peer-led family and social strengthening multiple family group intervention that is designed to respond to multi-level needs of refugee families. Results of the trial will contribute to the emerging evidence base on family-based mental health interventions for refugee and newcomer communities. The trial will also generate new insights regarding implementation strategies needed to promote successful delivery of services by peer providers and the unique role of human-centered design practices for adaptation of mental health and psychosocial interventions.

The Effect of the Close Collaboration With Parents Intervention - Estonian Study

The overall aim of the study is to implement an evidence-based intervention called 'Close Collaboration with Parents' in Estonian neonatal units. The goal of the intervention is to educate the whole multi-professional NICU staff and promote a positive change in the family-centered care culture of the units. Thus, the first aim of the study is to implement the intervention in an Estonian NICU context, in three hospitals, and study the fidelity of the intervention. More precisely, the study questions are whether adaptations are needed for the successful implementation of the intervention in the Estonian context and how feasible are the used implementation strategies. Secondly, the aim is to study the effectiveness of the Close Collaboration with Parents intervention in this context by using a quasi-experimental, pre-test - post-test, study design. The questions are whether the implementation of the intervention in the Estonian setting will result in positive effects such as 1) an improved development environment for the infants during hospital stay (less noise, more parental speech, and more parent-infant physical closeness), 2) intensified parental bonding to the infant, and 3) increased parental confidence and emotional well-being at the time of discharge from hospital.

taVNS for Anxiety in ASD

Investigators will recruit up to 10 patients with Anxiety comorbid with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) from the outpatient clinics at MUSC. This pilot trial will be an open-label investigation of the safety and feasibility of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) as a nonpharmacological wearable intervention used to manage anxiety and other neuropsychiatric symptoms at home, with patients/caretakers self-administering treatments. Each subject will undergo an initial in-person screening and be consented prior to participating in the study. This will be followed by an in-person training session with the subject (and caretaker if applicable), where they will learn how to self-administer taVNS and ask any pertinent questions. Participants will self-administer taVNS at home twice daily for 4 weeks. These treatments will not interfere with other aspects of their mental health care. Our investigators, over the prior 8 years, have demonstrated that taVNS is safe and feasible in the outpatient setting. Furthermore, investigators have recently demonstrated that taVNS is well tolerated and safely self-administered at home with remote monitoring. The investigators hypothesize that taVNS will be safe and feasible to administer at home in this new population. Results from this study may lead to further exploration of taVNS in this unique population.

Impact of the Mediterranean Diet on Patients With Psoriasis

The goal of this clinical trial is to determine the effect of a high-intensity Mediterranean diet intervention over 16 weeks in a group of patients with mild to moderate psoriasis in terms of skin improvement as measured by PASI. In addition, the aim of this study will be to gather the necessary information for a larger and more extended clinical trial in the future. Participants will be provided with dietary education for the implementation of the Mediterranean diet, supported by a monthly follow-up by nutritionists with experience in the field. Researchers will compare the effect of the Mediterranean diet on these patients to a control group provided with standard recommendations for a low-fat diet with no monitoring by nutritionists.
