View clinical trials related to Acute Pain.
Filter by:In the Emergency Department, there is no standard of care for pain medication distribution for children with an acute musculoskeletal injury when there is no fracture present. Currently, ibuprofen is a favorable choice for the treatment, but studies have shown concern for delayed healing activity associated with NSAIDs like Ibuprofen. Homeopathic Arnica Montana is a well-established complimentary medicine and may provide a good alternative for managing acute pain from musculoskeletal injuries, especially in children, given the palatability and rarity of side effects. This study aims to compare usual care vs. usual care plus Arnica 1M* (oral) or the placebo for management of pain in acute musculoskeletal extremity injuries without fracture by utilizing a double-blind clinical trial design. The primary outcome is to determine if subjects use less ibuprofen when given Arnica 1M.
The Virus in Endodontics (VE) phase I pilot study for preoperative pain will be analyzed and adjusted for the Phase II clinical trial. The Phase II clinical trial on preoperative pain, postoperative pain, and clinical healing will involve 250 patients. Patients will be recruited from the same pool of participants as the Phase II clinical trial. Preoperative cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans will be taken as well as three and six month postoperative CBCT scans. The secondary outcomes form the Phase II randomized clinical trial will be clinical success and visible radiographic healing determined by CBCT images.
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of two different cognitive-behavioral combined programs, including video games or kaleidoscope, on the pain, fear and anxiety experienced by children who apply for therapeutic or diagnostic venous blood collection, and their parents' satisfaction levels. In addition, this research aims to create a holistic approach to child health due to the evaluation of both children and parents. The population of the research will be children aged 8-10 who come to the Children's Blood Collection Unit of Karaman Training and Research Hospital between February 2022 and March 2022. The sample of the study will consist of 96 children and their parents who applied to the Blood Collection Unit on the specified dates, met the inclusion criteria and agreed to participate in the study. The pediatric blood collection unit provides service between 08:00 and 16:00 on weekdays. In order to determine the number of samples, power analysis was performed using the G*Power (v3.1.9) program. It was planned to carry out the research with a total of 96 children and their parents, 32 in each group, considering possible case losses during the research period. Evaluation of the data will be done in the computer environment with the SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) 22.0 package program. Percentage distributions, mean, standard deviation, chi-square test, analysis of variance will be used in the analysis of the data. In addition, the variance of the groups will be examined with the Levene test in order to make further analysis. In cases where the variance is equal, Bonferroni analysis will be used in post hoc advanced analyses, and Dunnett T3 analysis will be used in cases where the variance is not equal. The research findings will be evaluated at the 95% confidence interval, at the p<0.05 significance level.
The aim of this study will be to investigate the effect of an opioid-free anesthesia regimen with a mixture of dexmedetomidine-lidocaine-ketamine in the same syringe versus fentanyl analgesia in elective thyroidectomies. Recovery parameters and nociception levels throughout the operation will be evaluated
Ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane block (ESPB) is an interfascial blockade during thoracic anesthesia, first described by Forero in 2016, and is highlighted by technically feasibility and less complication rate. The patient is placed as decubitus position. The anesthesiologists use echo to identify the ipsilateral transverse process at T5 level, and insert the needle to 2-3 cm lateral to the spinous process until contact the transverse process. Then the injected local anesthetic will penetrate via erector spinae muscle to paravertebral space to affect and relieve pain.
Pain is the most common complaint for emergency department (ED) visit. Intranasal ketamine has been shown to provide rapid, well-tolerated, effective analgesia to emergency department (ED) patients with acute pain. few trials have studied ketamine infusion subcutaneously for pain management in trauma patients.
Thoracotomy operations are known to be painful surgical procedures, so providing effective intraoperative and postoperative analgesia is so important for all anaesthesiologists. Ineffective pain management interferes with deep breathing, coughing, and remobilization resulting in atelectasis and pneumonia. Ultrasound-guided ESP block is a myofascial plane block that provides analgesia for thoracic or abdominal segmental innervation depending on the level of the injection site. Thoracic epidural analgesia (TEA) is considered the gold standard analgesic technique for thoracic surgeries. But the invasiveness of this technique, the rare but serious neurologic complications and the failure rates up to 30% are the disadvantages of epidural analgesia
After one-stage hybrid arrhythmia ablation surgery there are possible side effects like acute and chronic pain. There is a lot of research surrounding these pains but not specifically after one-stage hybrid arrhythmia ablation surgery. The investigators want to research factors that may be associated with the absence of chronic pain after hybrid ablation include ketamine, peroperative opioids, loco-regional blocks, neuraxial blocks, wound infiltration, postoperative patient-controlled analgesia. The presence of corticosteroids or NSAIDS, will also be evaluated. Furthermore, non-adaptable factors such as genetics complicate the onset of chronic post-operative pain. Taking existing knowledge in this field into account, incidence risk as well as acute pain duration and intensity and their effects on chronic pain will become the primary focus of this study. The investigators will contact all patients who had a one-stage hybrid arrhythmia ablation surgery at UZ Brussels. Participants will be sent a questionnaire with a consent form in and a survey asking about their pain 3 months postop and their current pain management therapy.
Breast cancer is the most common malignancy among females. Nearly 40-60% of breast surgery patients experience severe acute postoperative pain, with severe pain persisting for 6-12 months in almost 20-50% of patients (post mastectomy pain syndrome) which is defined according to International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) as pain which persists more than 3 months after mastectomy/lumpectomy affecting the anterior thorax, axilla, and/or medial upper arm. Regionale anesthesia is one of the strategies with the potential to prevent the development of chronic pain following breast surgery. We hypothesize that erector spinae plane block is going to be more effective than serratus anterior plane block in the prevention of postmastectomy pain syndrome.
Video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) is frequently performed in thoracic surgery. It is widely accepted that VATS causes acute pain. Many factors such as postoperative analgesia treatment plan, operation time, number of chest tubes, and duration of chest tube stay can affect acute pain. This acute pain prolongs the discharge time of the patients and increases the frequency of postoperative pulmonary complications and postoperative morbidity. Postoperative acute pain may cause chronic pain in the later period, and may adversely affect the quality of life of the patients. This study, it was aimed to analyze the symptoms of chronic pain in the 1st and 3rd months postoperatively in patients who had undergone VATS.
