Filter by:Despite the negative consequences to maternal-child health from women gaining too much weight during pregnancy, up to 62% of overweight and obese women gain more pregnancy weight than is recommended. This project will establish the efficacy of Goals for Reaching Optimal Wellness (GROWell), an mHealth tool for achieving appropriate pregnancy weight gain and promoting postpartum weight loss among women who enter pregnancy overweight or obese. GROWell will fill a gap in research and clinical care by providing a validated, standalone mHealth tool for weight control during pregnancy and postpartum, which is a currently lacking resource.
The purpose of this study is to assess the percent change in body weight when switching to darunavir/cobicistat/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide (D/C/F/TAF) fixed-dose combination (FDC) (Immediate Switch Arm) compared to continuing the current integrase (INI) + tenofovir alafenamide/emtricitabine (TAF/FTC) antiretroviral (ARV) regimen (Delayed Switch Arm) in virologically-suppressed human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 infected participants who have experienced rapid and significant body weight gain.
The 2009 IOM recommendation value for weight gain during pregnancy is widely used. Due to the unclear relationship between gestational diabetes mellitus and weight gain during pregnancy when formulating this recommendation value, pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus were excluded from the study population. Control of appropriate weight gain and control of blood glucose stability is an important part of GDM management in pregnant women. The incidence of GDM in China is about 15%-20%, and the number of pregnant women with GDM ranks first in the world. For the sake of the current and long-term health of maternal and infant, it is of great significance to explore the appropriate weight gain range and formulate the recommended value for GDM pregnant women as an independent population. This project intends to use prospective cohort study of combining the observation of pregnant women with gestational diabetes blood sugar and weight changes, through the comparison of normal pregnant women suitable scope of weight gain, analyzes its influence on adverse pregnancy outcomes, increased the weight of gestational diabetes women recommended value is put forward, and combined with the Delphi expert consultation method for evaluation.

The HIV/HEART Aging study (HIVH) is an ongoing, prospective, multicentre trial that was conducted to assess the incidence, the prevalence and the clinical course of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in HIV-infected patients. The study population includes outpatients from specialized HIV-care units of the German Ruhr region, who were at least 18 years of age, were known to have a HIV-infection and exhibited a stable disease status within 4 weeks before inclusion into the trial. From March 2004 (Pilot phase) to October 2022 (15 year Follow-up) 1858 HIV+ patients were recruited in a consecutive manner. The standardised examinations included a targeted assessment of medical history and physical examination. Blood was drawn for comprehensive laboratory tests including HIV specific parameters (CD4 cell count, HIV-1 RNA levels) and cardiovascular items (lipid concentrations, BNP values and renal parameters). Furthermore, non-invasive tests were performed during the initial visit, including additional heart rate and blood pressure measurements, electrocardiogram (ECGs) and transthoracic echocardiography (TTE). Examinations were completed in accordance with previously defined standard operating procedures. CVD were defined as coronary, cerebrovascular, peripheral arterial disease, heart failure or cardiac vitium.
My Baby, My Move+ (2019-2021) is a peer-led wellness intervention which aims to reduce excessive gestational weight gain (EGWG) by targeting prenatal physical activity, mood, and sleep quality. Up to 50% of pregnant women in the U.S. gain weight in excess of the Institute of Medicine guidelines. EGWG leads to poor maternal and child outcomes. It also sets the stage for long-term overweight/obesity for both mother and child. The MBMM+ intervention is an example of a theoretically-based prenatal physical activity intervention that targets these outcomes. Up to 100 pregnant women (50 intervention arm, 50 control arm) will be recruited from the University of Colorado Clinics. Women in the intervention arm will participate in the 12-week MBMM+ intervention. Leiferman and her team propose to develop and test the feasibility and sustainability of the MBMM+ intervention to instill good healthy habits (e.g., prenatal physical activity, good sleep hygiene, stress management) during and beyond pregnancy. Findings from this study will be used to inform a future, large randomized trial.
This study will compare if using a continuous milk warmer to warm breast milk compared to the standard method of warming breast milk in a hot water bath improves weight gain and feeding tolerance in infants born at 32 weeks gestation or less over a ten-day period. The standard method does not keep the breast milk at a consistent temperature during the feeding. A continuous milk warmer maintains the breast milk at body temperature throughout the feeding. It is unknown which method improves weight gain and feeding tolerance in very low birth weight infants.
The study will be conducted with the Crossover Randomized Controlled Method. The infants who have attained oral feeding in the neonatal intensive care unit will be divided into two groups via randomization in the computer environment. After the randomization, kangaroo care will be applied to the infants in Group 1 during the first feeding hour when they are included in the study and they will be breastfed by their mothers without any other application during the next feeding. On the other hand, no application will be performed on the infants in Group 2 during the first feeding hour when they are included in the study and kangaroo care will be applied to them during the second feeding hour. The infants in both groups will be breastfed by their mothers during the feeding hours.
Methods are needed to help decrease interdialytic weight gains in hemodialysis patients. One potential method for accomplishing this goal is to develop an app for smartphones that allow patients to track their fluid intake throughout the course of the day. NCT 03759847 was designed to test the safety and efficacy of this app. In this protocol, part of the same IRB number, patients with large interdialytic fluid gains (3.5% or greater) will use the app to to determine the association between the interdialytic weight gain and the fluid consumed as recorded by use of the app for each interdialytic period.
