Effect of Polyphenols on Peripheral Vascular Disease.

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is a clinical setting characterized by an exceptionally high risk for cardiovascular events. Oxidative stress seems to play a role in impairing flow-mediated dilation (FMD) and contributing to atherosclerosis in patients with PAD. Cocoa seems to exert artery dilatation via oxidative stress inhibition. OBJECTIVES: To investigate whether in PAD patients, dark chocolate elicits artery dilatation via down-regulation of NOX2, the catalytic core of NADPH oxidase.

Kidney and Intestinal Markers for Early Detection of Organ Injury After Endovascular Aortic Repair

This study aims to investigate the predictive value of novel biomarkers and contrast-enhanced ultrasonography for early detection of abdominal end-organ (kidney and intestinum) hypoperfusion and ischemia in patients undergoing endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) for aortic aneurysm or dissection. In this context, patients will be monitored for renal biomarkers (TIMP-2, IGFBP7) and intestinal biomarkers (plasmatic intestinal fatty acid binding protein (i-FABP)) and local tissue perfusion will be assessed using contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS). The ultimate goal of this study is an early identification of patients developing one or both of these complications, which may facilitate a timely intervention to improve outcome.

Platelet Activity in Vascular Surgery for Thrombosis and Bleeding

The proposed PIVOTAL study will examine a panel of platelet/coagulation activity markers during the perioperative period. The goal is to develop a clinically useful assessment of platelet/coagulation activity for risk stratification that may ultimately serve as a target for therapeutic intervention. This study will enroll 200 patients with peripheral artery disease undergoing vascular surgery. PIVOTAL is funded by American Heart Association and is scheduled to begin enrollment in July 2013 for approximately two years.

The purpose of this pilot study is to find out what eating meals in a short time period early in the day (time-restricted feeding) versus eating meals spread out during the day (grazing) does to the body's ability to control blood sugar and to the health of its blood vessels. The investigators hypothesize that time-restricted feeding will be more effective at improving glucose tolerance and vascular condition (inflammation and micro- and macro-vascular function) than grazing.

Abbott Vascular (AV) obtained marketing approval for the XIENCE PRIME Everolimus Eluting Coronary Stent System (XIENCE PRIME EECSS) in China from the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) on August 10th, 2011. This prospective, observational, open-label, multi-center, single-arm, post-approval study is designed to evaluate the continued safety and effectiveness of the XIENCE PRIME EECSS in a cohort of real-world patients receiving the XIENCE PRIME EECSS during commercial use in real-world settings in China. This study has no primary outcome measure. All observations are of equal weight.
