Filter by:This is a multicenter, placebo controlled, parallel group, double-blind, randomized comparison study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of ropinirole IR tablets orally administered for 12 weeks in patients with symptomatic restless legs syndrome associated with Chronic kidney disease (CKD) managed with haemodialysis (including haemofiltration and haemodiafiltration) (hereinafter referred to as "uRLS"), to evaluate the efficacy and safety of long-term administration of ropinirole IR tablets, and assess the effect on the steady state pharmacokinetics in the long-term administration period of ropinirole IR tablets.
This is an Observational Study of children under the age of 11 diagnosed with Cockayne Syndrome to assess the natural progression of Cockayne Syndrome disease, with special attention to hearing and physical changes in length or height, weight, head circumference, and arm span during standard treatment. The primary analytical objective is to determine the rate of linear growth over a 6-month period in children < 2 years of age and over a 12-month period in children ≥ 2 years of age.
A subset of patients suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome exhibit symptoms of neurally mediated hypotension. While the underlying pathophysiology of chronic fatigue syndrome is not precisely understood, a dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system is thought to play a role in this subset of patients. In several small studies, subjects within this subset have noted improvement in their chronic fatigue symptoms when treated for their neurally mediated hypotension. As droxidopa acts on the autonomic nervous system and has been shown to ameliorate symptoms of neurally mediated hypotension, it is hypothesized that droxidopa could aid in the treatment of chronic fatigue symptoms. Neurally mediated hypotension has been associated with patients suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome. Droxidopa meanwhile has been approved in Japan for the treatment of the symptoms of neurogenic orthostatic hypotension. As such, it is hypothesized that regulating the autonomic nervous system in patients with Chronic fatigue syndrome may prove to be clinically beneficial.
As part of a palliative therapy concept, feasibility, toxicity, and effectiveness of treatment with the combination of Valproic acid and lenalidomide in Myelodysplastic Syndrome patients with a favorable risk profile will be investigated.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether Cinnamon from the Cassae Plant is effective in the body as insulin could lower blood sugar levels.
The hypothesis of the study is that the motility of the small intestine and the colon will alter according to the subtype of the irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) patient. IBS is currently classified into following subtypes: - Diarrhoea-IBS (IBS-D) - Constipation-IBS (IBS-C) - Mixed-IBS (IBS-M) - Unsubtyped-IBS (IBS-U) according to the Bristol scale. Magnetic Tracking System (MTS) is a new minimal invasive technic that allows motility studies of the whole human gastrointestinal tract. The magnetic cylindrical pill (6x15mm) is swallowed at 9 AM on day one. The recording is made until 4 PM and again from 8 AM until 2 PM on day two. The patient is placed in a bed and will be supplied with standardized food and fluid. The Magnetic Tracking System consists of a 4 x 4 matrix of sensors positioned with respect to the anatomical reference points. Before measurements, the matrix is calibrated by offsetting the earth's and environmental magnetic fields. During the experiment, the magnet coordinates are continuously monitored and transmitted to a computer for processing and storage. Respiratory artifacts will be filtered out. Digestive movements will then be classified as 1) non-propulsive or 2) propulsive and transformed into either trajectory or dynamic graphs of the digestive motility. The Magnetic Tracking System has the advantage from both radiographic and scintigraphic methods of conducting the tests without any radiation exposure to the patient. Preliminary studies have shown good concordance between the transit measured with the magnet and radiographic transit times. The investigators wish to use this method, MTS, to compare the motility of the small intestine and the colon in patients with IBS-D and IBS-C as well as to compare these to groups to MTS done on healthy volunteers under the same conditions as the IBS patients.
Pharmacotherapy has long been considered the primary approach for tic suppression in Tourette syndrome (TS). Unfortunately, medications are often ineffective and frequently have significant side-effects. This is a pilot therapeutic study using a dietary approach, the modified Atkins diet (MAD). The goal of this study is to establish the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of dietary therapy in patients with TS ("proof of concept") and to determine whether this intervention is worthy of evaluation in large-scale clinical trials. The modified Atkins diet mimics the well established ketogenic diet, but in a less-restrictive dietary manner. Dietary approaches using the MAD/ketogenic diet are currently under investigation for neurological conditions other than epilepsy, including Alzheimer disease, headaches, autism, narcolepsy, brain tumors, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson's disease, and depression.
This is a prospective observational study focused on monitoring the effects of various treatment options for acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients by measuring serum neopterin levels. Serum neopterin is a marker for measuring macrophage activation. Prior studies have illustrated that there are elevated serum neopterin levels in ACS. Patients enrolled are those with ACS. Blood samples are drawn at presentation, and at 72 hours after admission, or at office visits and at 72 hours later. Neopterin levels are measured via a commercially available assay..
RATIONALE: Probiotics, such as Lactobacillus, may be effective in preventing infections in patients with suppressed immune systems. PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the side effects and how well giving enteral nutrition, including Lactobacillus, works in preventing infections in patients undergoing donor stem cell transplant for hematologic cancer or myelodysplastic syndrome.
The goal of this clinical research study is to learn if LBH589 can help to control lower-risk (low or intermediate-1 risk) MDS. The safety of this drug will also be studied.
