Filter by:The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of oral eleclazine on mean daytime QTcF interval after 24 weeks of treatment with elecalzine in participants with long QT syndrome Type 3. During the single-blind treatment period (24 weeks), participants will receive eleclazine and/or eleclazine placebo. Following the single-blind treatment period, participants who have not permanently discontinued study drug will be eligible, at the discretion of the investigator, to continue receiving eleclazine during an open-label extension (OLE) phase.
Obesity and metabolic syndrome (MS) are closely interrelated leading to increased mortality, mainly due to cardiovascular disease. In addition, some cancers are much higher when obesity is associated with metabolic syndrome. Bariatric surgery allows significant and sustained weight loss with marked improvement of MS. Considered too invasive, surgery is proposed to a small proportion of patients who could theoretically benefit. The ENDOBARRIER® device implanted endoscopically is an innovative approach developed for management of obesity in the non-surgical manner with benefits for improvement in MS already reported in literature.
About 1 in every 700 babies born in the United States has Down's Syndrome (DS; Trisomy 21), 99% of whom have some degree of intellectual disability. Recent advances in medicine have resulted in a dramatically improved lifespan of about 25 to 60 years of age. Yet, there is limited data about anesthetic management in this increasing patient population. The bispectral index (BIS) monitor is a non-invasive monitoring device that reports a value between 0 and 100correlating to level of consciousness of an individual. A value of 0 indicates lack of brain activity while 100 indicates an awake/alert state. This monitor can be used to assess the depth of anesthesia. Patients with intellectual disability from congenital neurological diseases have lower BIS values compared to patients without any neurological impairment (Valkenburg 2009). The results may suggest that DS patients would require less anesthetic drugs compared to patients without any neurological impairment. To date, there are no studies in DS patients.
Non-myeloablative regimens (as the investigators use herein) are designed to maximally suppress the immune system without destruction of the bone marrow stem cell compartment. When using a non-myeloablative regimen recovery occurs without infusion of stem cells and the stem cells are autologous. While not necessary for recovery, stem cell infusion may shorten the interval of neutropenia and attendant complications. Thus in reality there is no transplant only an autologous supportive blood product. Based on our encouraging results of non-myeloablative hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, for patients with multiple sclerosis and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, the investigators will investigate the role of non-myeloablative hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for patients with SPS who require assistance to ambulate.
The purpose of the study is to test the safety of six cycles of cenersen treatment and to begin to test the hypothesis that intermittent administration of cenersen may lead to a reduced dependence on transfusion.
The investigators will include patients attending outpatient clinic in the area of Orthopedics and Traumatology of our hospital with a diagnosis of unilateral Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome. Two groups would be made, the control group will receive treatment with acetaminophen and physical therapy rehabilitation, closed chain exercises and stretches at home intended for the strengthening of quadriceps, abductors and internal rotators of the hip for the duration of six weeks. The experimental treatment group will receive the above plus the application of the technique NUCAP Medical Upper Knee Spider ® Kinesio taping on the affected knee. Both groups will be evaluated by an external consultation. They will be assessed by the Tegner Activity Scale, the Kujala score of the WOMAC and visual analog scale (VAS) for pain assessment; these scales will be applied at the beginning, third and sixth week
Phase I: To investigate maximum tolerated dose (MTD), safety and tolerability, pharmacokinetics, exploratory biomarker and efficacy of BI 836858 monotherapy in patients with low or intermediate-1 risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) with symptomatic anemia. Phase II: To investigate safety and efficacy of BI 836858 plus Best Supportive Care compared to Best Supportive Care alone in low or intermediate-1 risk MDS patients with symptomatic anemia.
This randomized pilot clinical trial studies a home telemonitoring device in managing the care of patients with myelodysplastic syndrome or acute myeloid leukemia after they are discharged from the hospital following chemotherapy. After treatment and hospital discharge, patients typically need extensive care to deal with the side effects of chemotherapy, keep up with medications, and obtain medical assistance. A home telemonitoring device would allow patients to monitor vital signs, symptoms, and use of medications, communicate with healthcare providers, and access educational material. A telemonitoring device may allow patients to be managed more effectively than standard outpatient care after being discharged from the hospital.
This study will evaluate the clinical performance of massively parallel sequencing (MPS) using the MaterniT21 PLUS LDT in the detection of fetal aneuploidy in circulating cfDNA extracted from a maternal blood sample obtained from women pregnant with a multiple gestation who were at increased risk for fetal aneuploidy.
The original mechanism of action of myo-inositol and preliminary results available in the literature on its use in IVF suggest its value as adjuvant gonadotropin therapy to reduce the risk of OHSS in PCOS patients. The aim of the study is to demonstrate that administration of myo-inositol decreases the incidence of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) in high-risk infertile with PCOS supported in IVF patients.
