Filter by:Lower back pain is a very common complaint in the Chronic Pain Clinic. Its etiology is nonspecific in 85% of the cases. In 1957, Strong and Davila reported that the superior cluneal nerves (SCNs) and middle cluneal nerves (MCNs) can be entrapped around the iliac crest, suggesting a causal relationship between this entrapment (SCN-Entrapment, SCN-E) and low back pain symptom. This is known today as "cluneal syndrome". Cluneal syndrome remains poorly investigated and is currently a diagnostic challenge. Various types of lumbar movements exacerbate its occurence. The most common theory regarding the origin of this pain evokes that is primarily due to a mechanical cause linked to stenosis or adhesions of fibrous tissue around the cluneal nerves causing distress. The hypothesis is that the investigator can reduce the pain related to the syndrome of superior cluneal origin thanks to a "volume effect" which aims to detach adhesions and/or aponeurotic stenoses that cause a distress of cluneal nerves. The aim of this study is to assess the effectiveness of the cluneal nerve block using theThomas Dahl Nielsen ultrasound based technique in patients with chronic low-back pain related to SCN-E. To this end, the investigator will compare physiological serum injection versus local anaesthetic injection, with the aim of reducing short-term pain and improving quality of life.
The purpose of this study is to assess the glycaemic controlling effects of BSG and bio-transformed BSG-containing biscuits in Singapore adults with MetS. The investigators hypothesized that consumption of BSG and bio-transformed BSG containing biscuit will improve glycaemic control.
Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) has shown to be an effective treatment for patients with persistent spinal pain syndrome Type 2 (PSPS Type 2). The method used to deliver electrical charge in SCS is important. One such method is burst stimulation. Two variations of burst waveforms are currently in use: one that employs active recharge and one that uses passive recharge. It is still unknown if there are clinical differences between active recharge and passive recharge burst SCS. To date, no clinical studies have been performed that directly compared these two burst stimulation waveforms. The objective of this Randomized Clinical Trial (RCT) is to assess and compare effect of passive recharge burst SCS with active recharge burst SCS on pain relief and motivational-emotional facets of pain
The term post-acute COVID-19 syndrome or Long COVID is a disabling syndrome that persists beyond the 3-month convalescence period after COVID-19 infections. This syndrome affects mostly women (~80%), present with chronic tachycardia and Orthostatic intolerance symptoms without any identifiable cause. In addition, non-specific symptoms such as fatigue, headache, and "brain fog", commonly described in POTS patients are also present in this novel condition, recently named post-COVID-19 tachycardia syndrome, POTS variant. Reduced Vagal activity and unresolved inflammation is post-COVID-19 POTS is hypothesized as the cause of Long COVID
The study will examine the potential efficacy and safety of two pre- and post-biotics on markers for gut inflammation and intestinal microbiota ecology in patients with Rett syndrome. Moreover, this trial will search for possible effects on epileptogenesis and quality of life.
ENDEAVOR is a Phase 1/2, 2-part, multicenter study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of ETX101 in participants with SCN1A-positive Dravet syndrome aged 6 to <36 months. Part 1 follows an open-label, dose-escalation design, and Part 2 is a randomized, double-blind, sham delayed-treatment control, dose-selection study.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the difference in diagnosis accuracy, treatment outcomes, patient perspectives, facial function and walking ability, emotional and social health, and respiratory complications between Freeman-Burian syndrome (formerly, Freeman-Sheldon or whistling face syndrome), Sheldon-Hall syndrome, and distal arthrogryposis types 3, and 1. The approximate cumulative total time for study-related activities will be 3 hours, including email communication, survey completion, and a medical interview. The study will involve completing 6 short ½ to 1-page surveys and participating in a medical interview. Participants may be asked to provide medical records for review. All study-related activities will take place remotely, and no travel is required.
This phase IIb trial tests whether Tri-Ad5 in combination with N-803 works to prevent colon and other cancers in participants with Lynch syndrome. Each of the three injections in Tri-Ad5 vaccine contain a different substance that is in precancer and cancer cells. Injecting these substances may cause the immune system to develop a defense against cancer that recognizes and destroys any precancer and cancer cells that produce these proteins in the future. N-803 may increase immune responses to other vaccines. Giving Tri-Ad5 in combination with immune enhancing N-803 may lower the chance of developing colon and other cancers in participants with Lynch syndrome.
