NCT ID: NCT01287143 Terminated - Fever Clinical Trials

Quantifying and Understanding the Signs and Symptoms of Fever

Start date: January 13, 2011
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Background: - Fever is a common symptom of illness, but it can involve many signs (a signal that something is not right in the body that can be seen by others, such as vomiting) and symptoms (a signal that something is not right in the body that are felt only by the person, such as pain) that may differ depending on the type of illness involved. Researchers are interested in studying individuals who have a fever to examine how often these signs and symptoms are experienced by patients. Objectives: - To identify and evaluate the signs and symptoms of fever and examine their frequency in individuals who have fever. Eligibility: - Individuals at least 8 years of age who are admitted to the NIH Clinical Center and have a fever (body temperature of at least 38 degrees Celsius/100.4 degrees Fahrenheit). Design: - Participants will be screened upon admission to the NIH Clinical Center. - Researchers will review the Clinical Center admission records. - Participants will complete a 15- to 20-minute survey with questions about how they are feeling and what symptoms they have experienced before, during and after an episode of fever.

NCT ID: NCT01277276 Withdrawn - Signs and Symptoms Clinical Trials

Study of Chemotherapy Side Effects in Cancer Patients: Non-invasive Optical Measurements of the Brain

Start date: November 2008
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Currently there is no methodology that can assign a risk of development of chemo brain and thus, studies to understand how and why only some patients develop chemo brain along with studies of potential treatments face major hurdles. This study will define hemodynamic/optical parameters in normal individuals and cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy potentially identifying optical parameters that are associated with the development of chemo brain, leading to new insights into the origin of the chemo brain condition, and importantly potentially identifying parameters that may predict who will develop "chemo brain" in order to directing investigations of therapies.

NCT ID: NCT01275989 Terminated - Inclusion Criteria: Clinical Trials

Ear Acupuncture Effectiveness In Reducing The Signs And Symptoms Of Stress And Anxiety

EAEIRTSOSAA
Start date: March 2010
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Randomized Controlled Trial found that levels of stress and anxiety of students ITIO, Ear and effective in reducing these levels. The LSS questionnaire and IDATE state were applied before, two months and two and a half months after the start of the applications, the STAI trait was applied once prior to the sessions. The sample comprised 56 individuals who had higher levels of stress above the average LSS 100 students who answered the questionnaires. Participants were divided randomly into three groups: control group with 15 patients without care, intervention group with 20 individuals using specific points for treatment and Group Sham at 21 points using individuals without indication for treatment of anxiety and stress. The results showed that the sham points decreased anxiety levels of participants.

NCT ID: NCT01268735 Completed - Dry Eye Syndromes Clinical Trials

The Effect of Ocular Lubricant Eyedrops on Lid Parallel Conjunctival Folds and Other Signs and Symptoms of Dry Eye

LIPCOF
Start date: April 2009
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Purpose To try to establish whether lid-parallel conjunctival folds (LIPCOF) can be influenced by increased lubrication with rewetting and lubricating eyedrops containing hydroxypropyl-guar, which has proven lubricating effect. Methods During summer and fall of 2009, 16 ophthalmologists from various regions of Croatia investigated the effect of topical therapy with lubricating eyedrops on the signs and symptoms of dry eye, with the special emphasis on lid-parallel conjunctival folds (LIPCOF). 229 patients were enrolled in the study. Results After 14 days of therapy with lubricating eyedrops containing hydroxypropyl-guar, statistically significant reduction of LIPCOF grade was observed, as well as the reduction of symptoms and other signs of dysfunctional tear syndrome (TBUT, Schirmer test, conjunctival hyperemia). Conclusion Results of this study have shown positive influence of lubricating eyedrops containing hydroxypropyl-guar on signs and symptoms of dysfunctional tear syndrome even after only 14 days of treatment. It is of particular interest that LIPCOF grade was statistically significantly decreased, pointing at increased friction and decreased ocular surface lubrication as possible causes of its appearance. Having this in mind, every clinician involved in dysfunctional tear syndrome treatment must also think about lubrication as integral part of treating this condition.

NCT ID: NCT01227915 Not yet recruiting - Clinical trials for Acute Bacterial Conjunctivitis

Effectiveness Comparison Between the Drugs TOBRACORT® and TOBRADEX® in Reducing the Signs and Symptoms of Acute Bacterial Conjunctivitis

Start date: February 2011
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The primary objective of this study is to evaluate, through clinical parameters, the comparative efficacy between topical Tobracort ® (tobramycin 0.3% dexamethasone + 1% - Chemistry Lab Union) and TOBRADEX ® (tobramycin 0.3% dexamethasone + 1 % - Alcon Lab), using the percentage of improvement (sustained response rate) at the end of treatment.

NCT ID: NCT01192594 Terminated - Schizophrenia Clinical Trials

Milestones of Adjustment Post-Psychosis

MAPP
Start date: November 2009
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

This nested design clinical outcome study of psychiatric case manager education on disease state, psychopharmacology of schizophrenia, relapse, motivational interviewing, and the process of psychological adjustment post-psychosis (Milestones of Adjustment Post-Psychosis Recovery Model-MAPP) will test the following hypotheses: 1. Medication non-adherence in patients with schizophrenia assigned to case managers who receive MAPP training will decrease from their pre-study rate and from the reported national average after one year enrollment compared to consumers not enrolled in the MAPP arm of the study. 2. Consumers in the MAPP intervention will have higher Quality of Life Enjoyment and Satisfaction Questionnaire (Q-Les-Q (53) scores than consumers not enrolled in the MAPP at quarterly measures. 3. Consumers enrolled in the MAPP intervention arm of the study will successfully complete the first two phases of the MAPP Recovery Model in one year. 4. Consumers in the MAPP intervention arm will have greater symptom reductions at quarterly data points compared to consumers not enrolled in the MAPP intervention arm.
