The goal of this randomized controlled trial is to compare the efficacy and safety of branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) versus placebo for treating muscle cramps in cirrhotic patients. The main questions it aims to answer are: - Compared the effect of BCAA versus placebo on muscle cramp frequency in cirrhotic patients - Compared the effect of BCAA versus placebo on muscle cramp duration and severity in cirrhotic patients - Compared the effect of BCAA versus placebo on quality of life in cirrhotic patients with muscle cramps Participants with cirrhosis who have experienced muscle cramps at least once per week will be randomized to receive either a placebo or 12.45 grams of BCAA orally per day for 12 weeks.
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a group of metabolic disorders characterized by hyperglycemia in the absence of treatment, positioned in the first places of prevalence and mortality in the Mexican population. Adherence to treatment is a central element to prevent complications of the disease, where the active participation of the patient in his or her treatment is fundamental. Despite institutional healthcare efforts to promote this element, there is no clarity in the Clinical Practice Guidelines aimed at the attention of people with T2DM on how to achieve it. The aim of this project will be to evaluate the effect of an intervention based on Contingency Behavior Analysis on treatment adherence, quality of life and glycemic level in people with newly diagnosed T2DM. Pre-experimental design with pretest and posttest measurements. The Dependent Variable will be an intervention based on Contingency Behavior Analysis. The Independent Variables will be adherence to treatment, quality of life and glycemic level. The power calculation suggests an n = 38, using sequential non-probability sampling. People older than 18 years with less than 5 years of T2DM diagnosis will be included. Pretest and posttest differences, effect size and correlations between measurement variables will be analyzed. It is expected that the intervention based on Contingency Behavior Analysis will encourage the active participation of people with T2DM, improving their adherence to treatment, glycemic level and quality of life. Considering that the Clinical Practice Guidelines emphasize the importance of therapeutic adherence through the active participation of the patient and his/her environment, it is expected that this project will provide the tools for behavioral change that so far are not included in public health in Mexico.
The goal of this prospective observational study is to learn about the correlation between obstetric comorbidity index and obstetric quality of recovery score in pregnant patients who undergo cesarean section. The main question aims to answer are: - Are there a correlation between the obstetric comorbidity index and the obstetric quality of recovery score? Can we predict the postoperative quality of recovery by calculating the obstetric comorbidity index before delivery? - What is the relationship between these scores with the type of anaesthesia given? Participants will answer an 11-question assessment scale to evaluate their recovery of quality in the postpartum period.
This study proposed a multidisciplinary collaborative team combined with a palliative care model and proposed to establish a team composed of medical staff in various disciplines to make up for the defects of a conventional nursing team. This study applied the multidisciplinary collaboration team combined with a palliative care model to patients with terminal cancer to evaluate its clinical effect.
The investigators' aim with the BRITER study is to produce a way of predicting who might be more or less likely to suffer side effects from radiotherapy prior to starting treatment for a glioblastoma (GBM), a type of brain tumour. GBM is the commonest primary malignant brain tumour. Treatment options include chemotherapy, radiotherapy or best supportive care. The focus should be on maintaining a good quality of life for as long as possible. Radiotherapy to the brain is an effective treatment, however it can produce side effects. The degree of side effects different patients experience can vary widely. It has been thought that if the patient's underlying normal brain is fragile due to an underlying mild dementia or problems associated with high blood pressure or cholesterol then this might make them more vulnerable to radiotherapy. MRI scans can be used to assess whether there are changes in the normal brain. The BRITER study aims to use MRI scans to see whether the investigators can predict those patients who might be more at risk of side effects from radiotherapy. The trial is aimed at patients aged > 65 who have been newly diagnosed with a GBM and are going to receive radiotherapy. Patients who agree to take part in the trial will have had an MRI scan as part of their normal diagnosis. Participants will undertake some questionnaires before starting their radiotherapy which will aim to assess their quality of life and their mental processes of perception, memory, judgment, and reasoning (called cognitive function). Participants may also need an extra MRI scan. Participants will repeat these questionnaires 4 and 8 weeks after treatment when they come for their follow up appointments. The investigators will compare them to measurements made on the pre-treatment MRI scan. Participation in the study does not change the treatment the patient receives. The investigators hope that the BRITER study will enable them to predict the degree of side effects a patient is likely to experience before embarking on radiotherapy treatment. This will enable more informative, individualised discussions surrounding the best treatment path for older patients with a GBM.
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the effects of nursing interventions based on Orem Self-Care Deficiency Theory on symptom management, care needs and quality of life in cancer patients who underwent immunotherapy. Method: The research was planned as a randomized controlled trial. The research is planned to be carried out in the Medical Oncology unit of the Health Sciences University Antalya Training and Research Hospital. It is planned to be done with 58 patients, 29 experimental and 29 control groups. Based on Orem Self-Care Deficit Theory; face-to-face patient education, giving patient education booklet, preparation of symptom management card, face-to-face and telephone counseling initiatives were planned. Patient Description Form, Supportive Care Needs Scale-Short Form, Memorial Symptom Assessment Scale, European Organization for the Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Scale and Self-Care Strength Scale will be used to collect data.
The ongoing warfare and economic instability in the Middle East and in North Africa causes many people to leave their home countries. Arrived in a host countries, in this example, in Switzerland, they face a lot of structural and psychosocial hurdles. Particularly in the first years, building up a certain quality of life is complicated and challenging. To support this process, the Swiss Red Cross and the University of Bern have developed the Sui app. It contains structural and social information as well as low-intensity psychological tools to provide support to the everyday life of Arabic-speaking people in Switzerland.
PROMs questionnaires seem to be an effective tool to obtain a greater knowledge of the physical and emotional state of patients. Despite this, few studies have been performed using patient reported outcomes in Head & Neck (H&N) cancer patients during and after treatment. The use of a novel topical mucosa composition (Saliactive®) is studied along the use of questionnaires.
The aim of this research is to examine the effect of mobile application game training designed for children aged 8-16 years on asthma management and quality of life. The population of the study will be children in the 8-12 age group who applied to the Mersin Pediatric Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Specialist's clinic, and the sample will consist of 78 children with asthma who meet the criteria for inclusion in the research. This age group has problems in solving abstract problems, it is necessary to embody it in order to facilitate the understanding of the disease process. Therefore, it is important to embody the training given in the increase of self-management related to the disease process of this age group. While determining the sample size of the study, Arıkan-Ayyıldız et al. (2016) based on the scientific study named "Efficacy of asthma education program on asthma control in children with uncontrolled asthma". In the Arıkan-Ayyıldız study, it was reported that the total mean score of "ACT" (Asthma Control Test-Asthma Control Test) was 13.8±3.4 in the experimental group and 15.6±3.2 in the control group. As a result of the Power analysis (G*Power 3.1.9.2) made according to these data; effect size = 0.78, with 95% confidence interval, 95% power, it was calculated that a total of 72 children with asthma, at least 36 in each group, should be included. Considering that there may be dropout and confounders during the research process, the number of groups was increased by 10%. The sample of the research; was a total of 78 children, including 39 children in each intervention group. In collecting research data; the Child and Parent Information Form, Inhaler Usage Skills Evaluation Form, Asthma Symptom and Treatment Need Scoring, DISABKIDS Asthma Scale will be used. A statistical package program (SPSS 20) will be used in the analysis of the research data. The statistical significance level was determined as 0.05. Kolmogorov-Smirnov will be used in the normality analysis of dependent variables. Chi-square and mean-to-means comparison tests will be used to determine the similarity of the groups. Appropriate parametric or non-parametric tests will be used according to the distribution's normality in comparing the means between groups and within groups.
