Bacterial Decolonization to Prevent Radiation-induced Oral Mucositis

Start date: July 1, 2023
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine whether bacterial decolonization of the nares prior to treatment with radiotherapy (RT) for patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, can prevent high-grade radiation-induced oral mucositis (RIOM) and improve quality of life. This study is being conducted because a randomized clinical trials form Yana Kost et al. have found bacterial decolonization in the nose prior to initiation of RT was effective for prevention of acute radiation dermatitis. Patients in the treatment arm will receive pretreatment with mupirocin ointment to the nares while patients in the control arm will receive standard of care treatment. Bacterial cultures will be taken from the nares and mouth, and participants will also complete a quality of life questionnaire before and after RT.

THE EFFECTS OF THE YOGA-BASED PROGRAM ON THE SOCIAL EMOTIONAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL HEALTH OF CHILDREN, SOCIAL SKILLS AND QUALITY OF LIFE

Start date: October 1, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study was planned to evaluate the effectiveness of a yoga-based psychosocial development program developed in line with the literature to improve the social, emotional and behavioral skills and quality of life of healthy preschool children. Watson's Human Care Model constitutes the theoretical framework of the study. The sample of the study, which will be conducted in a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test-post-test control group, consists of healthy children aged 60-72 months. The g*power 3.1.9.4 program was used to determine the sample size and it was determined that there should be at least 34 people in each group. The program consists of moving music activities, yoga postures accompanied by stories, breathing techniques and self-massage practices. The program will be implemented by the researcher, who has received specialty training in child yoga, for 30 minutes a day, two days a week for 6 weeks. Data will be collected using the Parent and Child Descriptive Data Form, Program Participation Form, Child Self-Assessment Form, Social Emotional Well-Being and Psychological Resilience Scale for Preschool Children, Social Competence and Behavior Rating Scale-30 and Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory. As a result of this study, positive effects are expected on the social, emotional, behavioral skills and quality of life of children to whom the psychosocial development program is applied.

A Transdiagnostic Intervention for Health-related Habits (LEV)

Start date: January 25, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Research problem and specific questions: Health-related habits influences mental and physical health. Still, screening and treatment of health-related habits, which can help to remedy health problems, is not done at all or very superficially. National guidelines emphasize the importance of prioritizing health-related habits, but there is a lack of implemented models. To solve this, the investigators have developed a transdiagnostic, interprofessional material intended for several care settings. Study 1: Is LEV a feasible intervention in different healthcare contexts? Study 2: A functional roadmap to healthier habits: A thematic analysis of themes form the functional analysis of unhealthy and healthy lifestyle behavior in adults with disabilities This study will use data from study 1.

NCT ID: NCT05883540 Recruiting - Depression Clinical Trials

Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD) in Palliative Care

LPC
Start date: June 11, 2024
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

Background: Terminally ill patients often experience significant psychosocial distress having depressed mood, death anxiety, pain, and an overall poor quality of life. Recent evidence from pilot studies suggests that serotonergic hallucinogens including lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and psilocybin produce significant and sustained reductions of depressive symptoms and anxiety, along with increases in quality of life, and life meaning in patients suffering from life-threatening diseases. Additionally, serotonergic hallucinogens may produce antinociceptive effects. Objective and Design: The study aims to evaluate effects of LSD on psychosocial distress in 60 patients suffering from an end-stage fatal disease with a life expectancy ≥12wks and ≤2yrs in an active placebo-controlled double-blind parallel study. Patients will be allocated in a 2:1 ratio to one of the two intervention arms receiving either two moderate to high doses of LSD (100 µg and 100 µg or 100 µg and 200 µg) as intervention and two low doses of LSD (25 µg and 25 µg) as active-placebo control.

the Impact of Occupational Therapy : a Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial

OCEAN-OT
Start date: September 1, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this randomized controlled superiority trial is to evaluate the impact of occupational therapy assessment and intervention on the quality of life of elderly cancer patients. Patients will be randomized into 3 parallel, multicenter arms with patient-reported outcome and blinded evaluator. - Experimental group A will combine the assessment of occupational problems (MCRO) and an occupational therapy intervention. - Experimental group B will have only the MCRO assessment because the occupational problems assessment alone (without intervention) could improve quality of life and occupational performance outcomes, according to the Nielsen, 2019 study - Group C will have the usual cancer management care combining specific treatments and supportive care.
