Filter by:Different studies have shown that a deficiency in vitamin D (≤20ng/mL) results in higher rates in morbidity and mortality rates in cancer patients. Clinical studies investigated and demonstrated altered vitamin d tissue in pancreatic cancer. But there is no prospective study evaluating the beneficiary effects of oral supplementation of vitamin d in altered vitamin d tissue from pancreatic cancer. We want to examine the effect of a high dose vitamin D3 therapy vs. a standard base dose vitamin D3 therapy in pancreas cancer patients with a vitamin D deficiency. In case of benefit in our results we could implement vitamin D3 as a supportive standard therapy in pancreatic cancer patients.
Inguinal lymph node dissection (ILND) is indicated following metastatic malignant melanoma, and is associated with a high-complication rate, of which many begin with the formation of seroma and ends in complicated wound healing, reoperation, multiple outpatient visits and re-hospitalization. Prevention of seroma may therefore lead to a reduction of many of the preceding complications and improve patient quality-of-life. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and oncological safety of prophylactic negative pressure wound therapy following ILND in melanoma patients.
This study aims to test the potential of group metacognitive therapy in alleviating emotional distress in cancer survivors. The investigators aim to find out if a group based approach is acceptable to patients and feasible to deliver in a routine clinical health psychology service.
Quality of life (QOL) of nursing homes residents with cancer in France is not known. High prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases makes it difficult. It was found that oncological management is suboptimal among Poitevin territory residents. Publications report an inadequate management of symptoms of discomfort related to cancers. The multicentric study will comparate quality of life in patients with and without Cancers in nursing homes, including residents with neurodegenerative disease, using validated questionnaires. These questionnaires, as well as pain evaluation, will be carried out by a geriatric consultations' nurse.
The study will compare two different dental materials on dental lesions near the gum line that cause chronic pain on oral health related quality of life.
Some patients with dry eye may have severe disabling neuropathic pain. They describe spontaneous pain, dysesthesia, hyperalgesia or even allodynia. It is classical to note an important discordance between the high intensity of the symptoms and the poverty of the clinical signs. These pains are often unrecognized and therefore often not sufficiently treated. A significant impact on patient's quality of life may occur. The concept of ocular neuropathic pain being relatively recent, few studies have focused on the subject at present. Our study aims to shed light on these pains in patients consulting for dry eyes at the Ophthalmological Foundation A. de Rothschild. The objective of our study is to describe precisely the characteristics of neuropathic eye pain and the visual, general and psychological repercussions in these patients.
Ten year longitudinal survey following children with disabilities who have participated in Sports and Recreation from a young age (5 to 10), and the parents of children who have participated in Sports and Recreation at a young age (5 to 10). These children will be followed for 10 years with surveys every 6 months, whether they are currently participating in sports and recreation activities or not. The purpose of this longitudinal study is to examine the effects of early participation in organized sports and recreation activities (S&R) on self-reported health and health-related quality of life of children and youth (C&Y) with disabilities and their parent-reported social participation. This project will examine child and parent reported differences between: 1. C&Y with disabilities who participate in S&R and those who have discontinued participation in S&R programs 2. C&Y with disabilities who participate in sports vs. those who participate in recreation, and 3. C&Y with disabilities who participate in S&R and normative data on C&Y with disabilities and those without disabilities.
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complex autoimmune disease characterized by involvement of multiple organs with a female to male ratio of 12:1 with the highest incidence reported in women of child bearing age (15-44 years). In general, advances in diagnosis and management have led to significant improvements in outcomes. However, fatigue remains a challenging and prevalent issue for SLE patients. The investigators aim to determine the feasibility of recruiting and conducting acupressure in fatigued persons with lupus; to explore the effect of two distinct acupressure formulas (relaxing and stimulating) plus usual care versus sham acupressure plus usual care and usual care alone on severity and impact of chronic fatigue (as measured by the Brief Fatigue Inventory) as well as quality of life, sleep and pain.
The primary objective is to assess the feasibly, adherence, and effects of mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) on anxiety and health-related quality of life in adult patients with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma at the Yale Cancer Center/Smilow Cancer Hospital. Participants will attend group sessions led by an instructor experienced in MBSR in an academic setting. The mindfulness meditation group sessions will take place at the Smilow Cancer Center at the Yale New-Haven Hospital.
The overall purpose of this study is to assess the necessity of lumbar drain placement after endoscopic endonasal approach (EEA) surgery in reducing cerebrospinal fluid leak postoperatively.
