The Effect of Video Training on Symptom Burden Patients Undergoing Hemodialysis Treatment

Start date: April 15, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Purpose: This study aimed to examine the impacts of video training support on the symptom burden, comfort level and quality of life (QoL) of the patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD) treatment. Methods: The current study adopted a randomized controlled quasi-experimental research design to investigate the implications of video training support on the symptom burden, comfort level and QoL of 48 participant patients, 22 of whom were in control and 26 were in intervention group, at Mugla Fethiye State Hospital Hemodialysis Center and a private hemodialysis center between April 2021 and July 2021. Data collection was conducted through Dialysis Symptom Index (DSI), Patient Information Form, QoL Scale Short Form (SF 36), and Hemodialysis Comfort Scale (HDCS) Version II. The data was collected four times, in week 0 (1st measurement), 4th week (2nd measurement), 8th week (3rd measurement), and 12th week (4th measurement). The intervention group watched three episodes of a training video a week for 12 weeks. Each session started 90 minutes after the HD treatment. The control group was shown the training video at the end of the research. Necessary ethics committee, institutional permissions and written consents of the participant patients were obtained prior to the study.

NCT ID: NCT05315219 Completed - Quality of Life Clinical Trials

A Follow-up Study on Total Endoscopic Thyroidectomy Bilateral Areola Approach

Start date: January 1, 2014
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Endoscopic thyroidectomy bilateral areola approach (ETBAA) is one of the most widely applied approach in China, meanwhile its safety and effectiveness has been broadly discussed since being introduced. However, these studies are generally with small sample size and short follow-up duration. The lack of long-term follow-up on oncological outcomes makes it inaccurate to evaluate the effectiveness of ETBAA versus OT. Thus, in this study, we evaluated long-term QoL and outcomes of patients with PTC underwent thyroidectomy via ETBAA versus OT.

NCT ID: NCT05303753 Completed - Quality of Life Clinical Trials

Protein-Prebiotic Wellbeing Study

Start date: January 26, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Healthy participants with self-reported GI complaints will consume the protein supplement that they normally use for recovery purposes after exercise during a 3-week baseline period, followed by a 3-week intervention period in which they maintain usage of their product, but replace a part of this product with a fermented dairy protein with prebiotic fiber. In addition, a group of healthy participants without self-reported GI complaints will serve as a reference group by consuming the protein supplement that they normally use for recovery purposes after exercise during a 3-week period.

Mometasone Furoate Nasal Spray in Italian Children

Start date: June 20, 2019
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Objective Seasonal allergic rhinitis (SAR) is a common disease in childhood and characterized by type 2 inflammation, bothersome symptoms, and impaired quality of life (QoL). Intranasal corticosteroids are effective medications in managing SAR patients. In addition, mometasone furoate nasal spray (MFNS) is a well-known therapeutic option. Cognitive-behavioural Intervention for Anxiety, Depression and Quality of Life Among Children Receiving Chemotherapy.

Start date: April 12, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The diagnosis and treatment of paediatric cancer is the most stressful experience for children and their families. Nearly all paediatric cancer patients are presented with at least one psychosocial problem, of which, anxiety and depression often coexist and are most frequently reported. Poorly managed anxiety and depression causes emotional and behavioural problems, impairs relationships and functioning, decreases adhere to treatment, increases the burden of symptoms and significantly impacts quality of life and prognosis. Despite the high rates and negative impacts of anxiety and depression in paediatric oncology, they are poorly managed. Thus, to mitigate the burden of anxiety, depression and impaired quality of life, an age-appropriate cognitive-behavioural intervention shows promise when incorporated with the existing pharmacologic interventions. This study aims to test how effective cognitive-behavioural intervention is to improve anxiety, depression and quality of life of children during chemotherapy. The study will be conducted in two hospitals in Ethiopia and include 8-18-year-old children with haematological cancer receiving chemotherapy, able to communicate with the local language, Amharic, able to provide parental consent and child assent, and without history of developmental, psychological, psychiatric, hearing or speech problems. The study will enroll up to 80 participants and randomise them into two groups, one group will receive a cognitive-behavioural intervention and the the other group will receive the usual psychosocial care provided by staff nurses. Participants in the cognitive-behavioural intervention group will receive five sessions of individual face to face cognitive-behavioural intervention. Each session will last approximately 30-35 minutes a week and supplemented by home-based practices. This study will use different intervention delivery strategies including psychoeducation, guided discovery or Socratic questioning, discussion, drawing, painting or writing, and play depending on the content of each session and maturity of the child. The levels of anxiety, depression and quality of life will be measured before the intervention, after the intervention and one month after completion of the intervention in both groups.
