NCT ID: NCT04035447 Active, not recruiting - Breast Cancer Clinical Trials

Symptom Management for YA Cancer Survivors

Start date: January 22, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Symptom interference is common for survivors of young adult cancer (aged 18-39 at diagnosis) and impacts their abilities to achieve normative life goals (e.g., education, careers, independence, romantic/social relationships) as well as adhere to recommended follow-up care. Assistance with symptom management has been rated by young adult survivors as an important and unmet healthcare need; however, skill-based symptom management interventions have typically been tested among older cancer survivors and have not targeted the unique developmental needs of those diagnosed as young adults. The proposed research advances the health and wellbeing of young adult cancer survivors by creating a developmentally appropriate hybrid in-person/mHealth behavioral symptom management intervention which addresses variables (i.e., symptoms and symptom interference) consistently linked to significant social, economic, and health burden.

NCT ID: NCT04030910 Completed - Quality of Life Clinical Trials

'LIFEView' Audiovisual Technology: Virtual Travel to Support Wellbeing and Quality of Life at the End of Life

Start date: October 16, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study is looking to assess the use of an audio-video technology called 'LIFEView' using a laptop and large-screen TV. This tool intends to support life review or reminiscence of past experiences, escape from current surroundings using virtual travel, or virtual visits to a location that one might have liked to visit in their lifetime but could not. We hope that by using this technology, we can support better wellbeing and quality of life for patients receiving palliative care services within the community and on an inpatient palliative care unit, or for patients at the end-of-life within Bruyère long-term care homes. Due to the potential for disorientation and reduced physical mobility, patients receiving palliative and end-of-life care may be unable to fully enjoy an immersive experience using a virtual reality (VR) headset. To reduce the possibility of disorientation that may arise from using a VR headset with 'LIFEView', our research team will use the 'LIFEView' prototype software loaded on a laptop and connected to a mobile high-definition 50" TV for inpatient PCU and LTC facility use, or to a patient's personal TV within their residence in the community. This setup will also improve accessibility to 'LIFEView' as a result of its relatively low-tech requirements (i.e. TV + laptop), and allows for an opportunity for patients and their loved ones to share cherished memories and stories.

NCT ID: NCT04024345 Active, not recruiting - Pancreatic Cancer Clinical Trials

The Emotional Impact of Surveillance for Pancreatic Cancer

Start date: July 1, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Due to its rarity a population screening program for pancreatic cancer is not possible. For this reason, considering background data on genetic predisposition and familiarity for this lethal tumor, efforts have been pushed to build up surveillance programs for subjects at high-risk of pancreatic cancer, due to familiarity and/or genetic predisposition. These programs are based on radiological examinations (such as MRI or endoultrasonography) and laboratory tests. However, little is known about the psychological burden of these programs. Only a handful of studies investigated, in various ways, how the participation in surveillance programs for pancreatic cancer may burden the psychological status, with a consequent possible impairment of the psychological wellbeing, and a higher risk of withdraw from the surveillance program itself. The aim of this study was to assess the psychological and emotional impact in high-risk individuals participating in a surveillance program for pancreatic cancer due to familiarity and/or to genetic predisposition, using specific psychological tools, such as multiple psychological questionnaires, investigating different functioning areas, administered by a clinical psychologist.

NCT ID: NCT03999359 Terminated - Depression Clinical Trials

A Self-Help Metacognitive Therapy for Cardiac Rehabilitation Patients (PATHWAY WS3)

Start date: May 14, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Depression and anxiety are highly prevalent in people with heart disease, causing immense human and economic burden. Available pharmacological and psychological interventions have limited efficacy and the needs of these patients are not being met in cardiac rehabilitation services despite emphasis in key NHS policy. Extensive evidence shows that a particular style of thinking dominated by rumination (dwelling on the past) and worry maintains emotional distress. A psychological intervention called metacognitive therapy (MCT) that reduces this style of thinking alleviates depression and anxiety in mental health settings. This is a single-blind feasibility randomised controlled trial of metacognitive therapy delivered in a self-help format (Home-MCT). The aim of the study is to evaluate the acceptability and feasibility of integrating Home-MCT into cardiac rehabilitation services and to evaluate the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of Home-MCT.

NCT ID: NCT03983499 Completed - Type 2 Diabetes Clinical Trials

NCT ID: NCT03968718 Recruiting - Quality of Life Clinical Trials

PATIENT VOICES Integration of Systematic Assessment of Patient Reported Outcomes Within Clinical Oncology Practice

Start date: May 27, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Listening to "patient voices" in terms of symptoms, emotional status, satisfaction with care and information received, represents a major shift in medicine. It is in fact crucial in medical decision making and patient empowerment, especially in cancer care. Patient Reported Outcomes Measures (PROMs) and in particular electronically assessed PROMS (ePROMS), have been identified as potentially effective tools to systematically gather patient voices. Despite international extensive and growing interest, systematic PROM collection is not widely implemented in routine cancer care, due to barriers at various levels. The PATIENT VOICES is a project aimed at achieving a stepwise inclusion and integration of PROMs within routine clinical practice at the FONDAZIONE IRCCS ISTITUTO NAZIONALE TUMORI-MILANO. Phase I of the Patient Voices project (pilot and feasibility testing), will be the focus of the present study and its results will be the base for subsequent phases (implementation and impact assessment).
