Filter by:Parents of children with a chronic disease or functional disabilities have an increased risk of stress-related distress and reduced quality of life. Internet-delivered interventions are one way to reach out to exhausted parents who may often have challenges in finding time to access face-to-face services. We developed a guided web-based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy intervention for Finnish parents of children with chronic conditions or functional disabilities. Participants (N=100) will be recruited on parent associations' Facebook groups and randomly assigned to guided web-based ACT condition and a control condition receiving psychoeducation. The guided web-based ACT condition will receive a 10-week web intervention including three remote meetings with a psychologist through the telemedicine application Doxy.me. Symptoms of burnout (SMBQ), depression (PHQ), health-related quality of life (RAND-36), mindfulness (FFMQ), general measure of psychological flexibility (CompACT) as well as the wellbeing of their child (KINDL) will be measured before (pre) and after the intervention (post), at 7-month (follow-up 1) and 10-month (follow-up 2) after the pre-measurement. In this randomized controlled trial we will investigate the outcomes and the mechanisms of change of the web-based ACTintervention. In addition, we will examine the acceptability of the web-based intervention.
This cluster-randomized controlled trial (c-RCT) evaluates the effectiveness of a brief, single-session psychosocial workshop, "CETA Short Session" (CSS), for reducing symptoms of distress and functional impairment and increasing treatment engagement among conflict veterans and their families in Ukraine. The CSS workshop includes psychoeducation, review of a self-assessment, safety screening, and training in cognitive coping. This will be evaluated against a single-session comparison workshop that includes all of the same workshop elements except for cognitive coping. Registration for both conditions includes completion of a self-assessment. Participants with safety concerns or very severe symptoms will be immediately referred to mental health treatment; others will be asked to wait for one month before being reassessed and, if indicated, referred to mental health treatment. Both conditions include an individual check-in phone call one week after the workshop. Distress and functional impairment outcomes will be assessed one month from baseline. Treatment engagement outcomes will be assessed three months from referral. The investigators hypothesize that individuals attending sessions randomized to CSS will show greater improvement in mental health outcomes and greater treatment engagement than those attending sessions randomized to the comparison condition. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in Spring 2019, the RCT was paused to develop and pilot an online version of both the CSS and comparison workshop. The trial protocol has now been expanded to continue the effectiveness trial while allowing for both online and [when/if feasible] in-person intervention delivery.
We aim to compare two different levels of cultural adaptation of an Internet- and mobile-based intervention for the treatment of depression called Hap-pas-Hapi among Albanian-speaking immigrants in Switzerland and Germany. One arm will include the generic (minimally adapted) version of Hap-pas Hapi. The other arm will include a version of Hap-pas-Hapi that was adapted to the target population's cultural concepts of distress. Both versions include five sessions and the same therapeutic techniques.
Cancer represents the second cause of death in general population worldwide and according to statistics, it is expected to increase in the next 20 years. Cervical cancer is the fourth cause of morbidity and mortality among women around the world. Late diagnosis and treatment indices several emotional reactions in patients leading to psychological disorders with an impact in quality of life. Anxiety and depression are the most frequent emotional reactions in cancer patients, which may vary depending on psychosocial factors such as coping and family support, mostly provided by the primary caregiver. Despite the high psychological morbidity in cancer patients, it is estimated that, among those patients needing psychological support, only 10% receive such interventions. A growing interest on psychological interventions in oncology has increased in the last 40 years, however, scarce investigations have been performed, especially in cervical cancer patients. The Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy has proven to be beneficial in general cancer population decreasing the psychological symptoms and improving the quality of life. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of two Cognitive-Behavioral psychological interventions on anxiety, depression, coping, therapeutic adherence, sexual satisfaction and quality of life of cervical cancer patients with locally-advanced and advanced disease attended at the National Cancer Institute from Mexico. Psychological intervention will be provided during ten weekly sessions including psychoeducation, relaxation, cognitive restructuring and problem solving with a pretest, posttest performed one week after intervention, and finally a follow up after three months after finishing the psychological intervention.
The present study examined the effect of a short Mindfulness-based intervention emphasizing a 'decentering' component on elderly seniors. Methods: 30 community seniors (Mage= 74.7) performed either 'decentering' intervention, guided imagery intervention, or control care as usual. The 8-week interventions included weekly 20-minute sessions and daily 10-minute home practice. Participants underwent a cognitive and emotional assessment before and after the interventions, which included filling out questionnaires and performing the Simon task. Trial registration: The study follows the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki, approved by the committee in Beer-Yaacov Hospital, Israel (number 579) on 24 Oct. 2017.
Randomized clinical trial with individuals being allocated to experimental (Cogito Companion) or Active Control arms. Those in the latter will receive information regarding widely available mobile self-help apps via a custom mobile app built in MyCAP. This same platform will be used to collect data regarding symptoms. Randomization will be stratified by gender, force (Surface, Aviation), and smartphone model (Android, I-Phone), as Cogito algorithms differ based on smartphone platforms. Participants will be willing Naval personnel being redeployed to CONUS. Data is also being collected (feasibility/acceptability) to inform future implementation..

The aim of this research is to study the influence of stochastic modulated vibrations on the autonomic nervous system of breast cancer patients during radiation therapy
AIM: study the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation-Outcome Measure (CORE-OM), an instrument that measures psychological distress, in the Chilean population. SAMPLES: two clinical samples (1. outpatients from three psychotherapeutic centers; two university clinics and a family mental health clinic and 2. self-reported clinical) and two non-clinical (1. university students; and 2. general community) samples. Students and community nonstudent participants who reported receiving psychological or psychiatric treatment (exclusion criterion) were excluded from the non-clinical sample and classified as self-reported clinical. DATA COLLECTION: In the clinical sample, data is collected at one point if the patient is undergoing treatment and at four points (at baseline (i.e. before the first session), at 2, 5 and 8-weeks) if the patient is recruited before attending the first psychotherapy session. Participants complete a paper questionnaire in the waiting room of one of the clinics. Participants from the second university outpatient clinic and a family mental health clinic complete a digital version. At baseline, participants are presented with the CORE-OM and the Outcome Questionnaire (OQ-45). At each follow-up point, they are presented with the CORE-OM plus mental health service evaluation items. In the student and community samples, data is collected at two time points (i.e. baseline and retest). At baseline, participants are presented with the CORE-OM and OQ-45. After two weeks (i.e. retest) participants are contacted via email and presented with the CORE-OM. The application modality in the non-clinical samples is mixed: students and general community participants complete paper or digital versions of the questionnaire in the classroom or community, respectively. The digital version of the questionnaire can be accessed by clicking a Uniform Resource Locator embedded in an email/message, or by scanning a Quick Response (QR) code with a smartphone. RECRUITMENT: The clinical sample is recruited at two university outpatient clinics and a family mental health clinic of Santiago, Chile which provide services to patients of low to medium income. Patients in one of the university clinics are approached in the waiting area, and those meeting inclusion criteria, and willing to participate, fill out an informed consent before responding the questionnaire. Patients from the second university clinic/family mental health clinic are referred when booking their first appointment and contacted via email by a research team member. The student sample is recruited in classrooms of Pontificia Universidad Católica. A member of the research team presents the study and invites students to participate. Students agreeing to participate fill out an informed consent form before completing paper/digital versions of the questionnaire. The general community sample is recruited using a convenience sampling method. As in other samples, participants sign an informed consent before answering the questionnaire. ANALYSES: internal consistency, test-retest stability, convergent validity and discrimination. Clinical cut-off values will be calculated by domain and sex between the clinical and non-clinical samples and sensitivity to change will be assessed using data from the subsample of outpatients who respond an online questionnaire before their first session and at one follow up point.
This study will use a longitudinal randomized experimental design. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a positive affect skills intervention or a psychoeducation control group and assessed with questionnaires at baseline and immediately post 8-week intervention.
