There is a significant and growing interest in nutrition and health in the general population and there is also, paradoxically, an increasing problem with obesity and general debilitating conditions of affluence, such as type 2 diabetes mellitus. Igelösa Life Science AB has developed a modified Okinawan-based Nordic Diet (OBND) diet based on evidence primarily from the diet of the long-lived and healthy Okinawa population. The diet includes fish and whole grains, with a high level of vegetables, but is low in fat. In 2016, a clinical nutrition study was carried out at Kristianstad University with the intention to determine if the OBND resulted in reductions/changes in clinical and medical markers of importance for treatment of diabetes mellitus and gingivitis/periodontitis. The diet had a positive impact on the clinical progress of otherwise debilitating conditions such as diabetes and the health benefits on clinical parameters was extremely rapid, that is, within two weeks. Not only did the patients with type 2 diabetes receive the OBND, their partners were also offered the same option. This is a key innovation and the participants stated that it was a great support, which facilitated adherence and promotes the long-term impact on health. Ingrained habits such as poor diet, can only be defeated by a concerted team effort and our work to date provides a glimpse of the potential benefits to Sweden and the rest of the developed world through this shared approach. Initial studies have shown promising effects of the OBND on both diabetes and periodontal conditions. The objective of this study is to compare the OBND to the current recommended standard diet. Assuming the study provides positive evidence of health impact due to improved food quality, it will also be seen that the production and delivery of such 'healthy-living' meals will be of commercial interest for industry. The mission is to offer an evidence-based natural food alternative that both prevents disease and improves the health status of individuals with diabetes. The long-term goal is to design efficient and effective products that will protect against diabetes and other chronic diseases. The combination of scientific credibility and commercial interests may be a key factor to transfer the new knowledge about healthy dieting into actual improvements in public health.
This study will compare the effect of three different sealers on healing of teeth with apical periodontitis after primary root canal treatment.
The quantification of the proteomes : L-plastin, lipocalin and adiponectin was analysed in the subgingival tissue samples of generalized severe chronic periodontitis patients with and without diabetes mellitus.The demographic and the periodontal parameters were assessed and the correlated with the quantification of the proteins. The mRNA expression was analyzed with RT-PCR and the quantification of protein was done using ELISA.
Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease caused by mixed infections with the subgingival microbiota being organized as a biofilm that, if untreated, may result in breakdown of the periodontal tissues in susceptible individuals. In this clinical trial, the researchers will investigate the effect of single-file reciprocating file system (Reciproc) versus multi-file rotational file systems (ProTaper Next) on the postoperative pain in adult patients who have necrotic pulp and apical periodontitis. The participants will be assigned by chance to separate groups that compare 2 different treatments, reciprocating single-file system (Reciproc) and rotational multi-file system (ProTaper Next).
This study began enrollment in 2003 with final report completed in October of 2015. This submission is being provided to acquire an NCT number. This study was successfully executed according to protocol with full enrollment and completion of 89.7% of subjects. Subjects were enrolled into a two arm study 1) Combined therapy (scaling and root planing plus Crest products) vs. 2) delayed treatment. Subjects were followed for 6 months and a wide and extensive battery of biological samples were collected to determine the effects of treatment on the local and systemic inflammatory response.
Randomized controlled tril to evaluate the safety and efficacy for the combination of L. reuteri ATCC PTA 5289 & L. reuteri DSM 17938 in pregnant women with periodontitis and/or gingivits to improve oral health and at the same time reduce the risk for prematurity or intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR). Women in this study wil receive L. reuteri Prodentis (L. reuteri DSM 17938 & L. reuteri ATCC PTA 5289 ) at a dose of 2x10^8 Colony Forming Units (CFU). One lozenges is to be taken twice per day (one in the morning and one in the afternoon) giving a total daily dose of at least 4x108 CFU/day since randomization until delivery. The control group will receive placebo lozenges which contains identical ingredients except for lacking the bacteria. One lozenges is to be taken twice per day (one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The study product will be kept refrigerated (+20 - +80 C)
Periodontitis is an inflammation of the supporting structures of the teeth, usually caused by specific or groups of microorganisms that results in the progressive destruction of the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone. the objective of periodontitis treatment is to reduce the number of periodontal pathogens. However, there is not an agreement in the use of systemic antibiotics in patients with diabetes. The purpose of the present study was to determine the efficacy of amoxicillin/metronidazole compared to clindamycin during non-surgical treatment of periodontitis in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Patients and methods In this double-blind, randomized clinical trial, a total of 42 patients with chronic periodontitis and type 2 diabetes were included in a 24-months follow-up. Patients were randomly assigned to treatment with either amoxicillin/metronidazole or clindamycin every for 7 days. Clinical determinations (depth of probing, bleeding at the probe and plaque index) were performed to determine the extent and severity of periodontitis before and after the pharmacological treatment. The intra-group differences were calculated with Wilcoxon rank test. The inter-group differences were calculated with Mann-Whitney test. Sex, bacterial plaque, and bleed to the sounding were summarized using proportions and analyzed with the chi-square method. In all analyses, a P-value of <0.05 (two tailed) was considered statistically significant
