Filter by:In this study the investigators want to address acute effects of warm-up and static stretching on short-term muscular performance of football players. Static stretching exercises are often used in the first part of a training session or before a football match in order to increase sports performance and to decrease risk of injuries. Since there is a lot of scientific evidence that demonstrates static stretching can improve short-term muscle performance, the aim of researchers is to discover the size and the duration of negative effects and, additionally, whether these effects can be eliminated with activation exercises. Nineteen 14 years old football players will be included in a cross-over study design. In the control condition the participants will perform 5 minutes of aerobic warm-up (stepping on the stair) and then 7 series of 20-seconds static stretching of quadriceps femoris, hamstrings, hip adductors and triceps surae. Maximal power and jump height of the countermovement jump will be tested in between every series. Thus, parameters of countermovement jump will be monitored at the beginning, after warm-up, after each series of static stretching, 7.5 minutes after 7th static stretching series and 15 minutes after 7th static stretching series. Parameters of dynamometry (relative maximal torque [Nm/kgBM] and rate of torque developement [Nm/s/kgBM] will be monitored at the beginning, after warm up, 7.5 minutes after last series of static stretching and 15 minutes after last series of static stretching. Maximal range of motion will be monitored at the beginning, after warm up, during every series of static stretching, after last series of static stretching, 7.5 minutes after last series of static stretching and 15 minutes after last series of static stretching. In the second condition (experimental) all the tasks are the same, the only difference is that the subjects must perform post-activation potentiation exercises after last series of static stretching. We hypothesize that muscular performance will be impaired to a statistically significant level after 7th series of static stretching. Second hypothesis is that negative effects will not last longer than 15 minutes and the last hypothesis is that static stretching induced negative effects can be nullified with activation exercises.
The main objective is to evaluate a specific cervicograph (the graph describing the cervical dilation, included in the partograph) for pregnant women with an history of cesarean section, to improve the management of labor for women attempting at a vaginal delivery (VBAC). Women will be randomly assigned to this specific cervicograph (including an action line 2 hours after the alert line), or to the normal cervicograph (no lines). The primary outcome is appropriate detection of dystocia.
This is a trial for patients with newly diagnosed metastatic prostate cancer with 5 or fewer sites of metastases. The trial involves surgery (removal of the prostate) or radiation to the prostate, six months of hormone therapy, and stereotactic body radiotherapy to the sites of metastasis.
Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (EGPA), also referred to as Churg-Strauss syndrome, is a rare hyper-eosinophilic syndrome. Eosinophilia is central to the pathophysiology of EGPA and interleukin-5 (IL-5) is a key cytokine regulating the life-cycle of the eosinophil. Neutralization of IL-5 with mepolizumab, an anti-IL5 monoclonal antibody, therefore offers a potential therapeutic option for EGPA. The objective of study MEA115921 was to investigate the efficacy and safety of mepolizumab compared with placebo wherein the subjects were randomized to receive either: 300 milligram (mg) mepolizumab or Placebo subcutaneous (SC) injection every 4 weeks in addition to their background standard-of-care therapy. Subjects were treated for a period of 52 weeks and then followed up for a further 8 weeks to study completion at Week 60. This is a LAP to support provision of open-label mepolizumab on an individual basis to eligible subjects who participated in clinical study MEA115921 and who require a dose of prednisolone (or equivalent) of >=5 milligrams per day (mg/day) for adequate control of their EGPA. Eligible subjects can initiate mepolizumab under this LAP within a 6-month period starting from completion of study MEA115921 (that is, at Week 60) or, in case of premature discontinuation from study MEA115921, the subjects will initiate mepolizumab at the time point that would have been Week 60 if the subject had completed the study. Eligible subjects will receive subcutaneously administered mepolizumab at a dose of 300 mg SC every 4 weeks. Eligible subjects will continue to receive mepolizumab under this LAP until mepolizumab is commercially licensed for the treatment of EGPA in the relevant country or until GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) discontinues the program or until the subject meets any of the withdrawal/stopping criteria.
Aim to test the effectiveness of different incentive models for increasing the follow-up response rate in the current smoker subject.
The investigators aim to demonstrate the feasibility of point-of-care identification of Rh-negative women in a poor, rural setting in Pakistan. Feasibility will be assessed across 2 major domains: 1) acceptance by pregnant women to receive the point-of-care test; and, 2) ability of health workers to administer the point of care test and interpret results. The investigators will also measure whether RhIg prophylaxis can be successfully delivered and is accepted by pregnant women in this setting. The socio-demographic correlates of the acceptance of point-of-care testing and where applicable, the acceptance of RhIg prophylaxis will also be assessed. In addition, the investigators will also explore the baseline knowledge of Rh disease among pregnant women and lady health visitors in this study population and will investigate socio-demographic correlates of baseline knowledge and the uptake of knowledge among pregnant women. Finally, the prevalence of Rh negativity will be calculated and stillbirth and neonatal mortality will be tracked among all participants. All stillbirths and neonatal deaths in this population will be characterized with respect to cause and Rh-negativity.

The impact of PEEP on ICP was dependent on the difference between elevated CVP levels and baseline ICP levels. ICP would increase once elevated CVP through PEEP adjustment exceeds the baseline ICP.
This VA QUERI Partnered Evaluation Initiative will evaluate the impact of an immersive Point-of-care Ultrasound (POCUS) Training Course on provider skill acquisition and retention; the frequency of POCUS use by trained providers; and the barriers/facilitators to POCUS in the VHA. Data sources include pre- and post-course assessment tools, medical coding data, and course evaluations. Providers that participate in the POCUS Training Course will be compared to control providers from wait-listed facilities. Additionally, participating facilities vs. wait-listed facilities for the POCUS Training Course will be compared. Findings from this project will guide ongoing efforts of the investigators' operating partners, VA Specialty Care Centers of Innovation (SCCI) and the VA Simulation Learning and Research Network (SimLEARN), to develop a national POCUS training program and facilitate implementation of POCUS use system-wide in the VA healthcare system.
