Filter by:The purpose of this study was to determine whether computer-driven protocolized weaning is superior to physician-directed non-protocolized weaning in over-24-hours-ventilated surgical intensive care unit (ICU) patients. The main hypothesis was that weaning duration differs between both methods. Secondary hypotheses were that reintubation rate, duration of mechanical ventilation, intensive care unit (ICU) length of stay and workload for physicians and nurses differ between both methods.
The purpose of this study is to: 1. Evaluate how the body reacts to sorafenib when taken daily in combination with paclitaxel and carboplatin, 2. Measure the blood levels of sorafenib, paclitaxel and carboplatin at specific times after taking the medication, and 3. To determine the safety of sorafenib.
The present project aims at comparing two nonmyeloablative regimens currently used in 2 major HCT centers in the US for patients with HLA-matched related or unrelated donor: the one from the Seattle group consisting of 2 Gy TBI with fludarabine (90 mg/m²) versus the one from the Stanford group combining 8 Gy TLI with ATG.
The primary objective of this study is to determine whether S-1 increases overall survival when compared to 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) in patients with metastatic pancreatic cancer previously treated with a gemcitabine-based therapy. The secondary objectives are to compare: progression free survival, overall response rate, clinical benefit and improvement in tumor related symptoms and also to assess overall safety and pharmacokinetics of S-1.
RATIONALE: Diagnostic procedures, such as digital colposcopy, may help doctors find and diagnose cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying digital colposcopy to see how well it works in finding cervical intraepithelial neoplasia.
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as capecitabine, streptozocin, and cisplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. It is not yet known whether giving capecitabine together with streptozocin is more effective with or without cisplatin in treating neuroendocrine tumors. PURPOSE: This randomized phase II trial is studying giving capecitabine together with streptozocin to see how well it works compared with or without cisplatin in treating patients with unresectable or metastatic neuroendocrine tumors.
This study is being conducted to determine if a combination of AZD6244 given orally twice a day with standard doses of selected chemotherapies will be safe and tolerable for cancer patients with advanced solid tumors. The highest tolerated dose of AZD6244 in combination with selected chemotherapies will be evaluated. The study will also investigate how AZD6244 in combination with standard chemotherapies are absorbed, distributed and excreted by the body as well as the length of time that the drugs remain in the body. Initial and periodic assessments will establish patient response to the combination therapies
This study determined the maximum tolerated dose and safety of SU011248 (sunitinib malate, SUTENT) in combination with FOLFOX [Leucovorin + Fluorouracil (5-FU) + Oxaliplatin]. Three different dosing regimens with starting doses of sunitinib at 37.5 mg/day (Schedule 2/2, Schedule 4/2, and Continuous Dosing) were tested in patients with advanced solid tumors, including colorectal cancer.
The purpose of this prospective multicenter trial is to investigate the value of molecular markers in endometrial cancer for predicting lymph node metastasis and prognosis in relation to treatment.
The purpose of this study is to learn more about the personal experiences of patients who are treated with pelvic exenteration surgery. Pelvic exenteration is a surgical procedure in which the pelvic organs including the reproductive organs, bladder and/or rectum are removed. We would like to understand more about the physical, emotional, educational, and sexual needs of patients who are treated with this surgery. We will use what we learn from this study to help find better ways of preparing patients for this type of surgery. This will also allow us to be more helpful to patients' needs after surgery.
