NCT ID: NCT00477594 Completed - Clinical trials for Hypercholesterolemia

Open Label Extension of ISIS 301012 (Mipomersen) to Treat Familial Hypercholesterolemia

Start date: May 2007
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of extended dosing of mipomersen in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia on lipid-lowering therapy who have completed either the 301012-CS8 (NCT00280995) or 301012-CS9 (NCT00281008) clinical drug trials.

NCT ID: NCT00475774 Completed - Obesity Clinical Trials

Body Fat Distribution and Fat Metabolism

Start date: May 2007
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The primary purpose of the study is to examine the effect of body fat distribution on the physiological response to a dietary fat intervention. Physiological response will be evaluated as fatty acid kinetics (plasma and subcutaneous fat appearance). Secondary objectives are targeted protein production (apoB and adiponectin). Examination of the effect of chain length of the dietary fatty acids on fat tissue characteristics and the effect of chain length on satiety, will be studied as well.

NCT ID: NCT00472732 Completed - Urea Cycle Disorder Clinical Trials

Neurologic Injuries in Adults With Urea Cycle Disorders

Start date: March 2007
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Urea cycle disorders (UCDs) are a group of rare inherited metabolism disorders. The purpose of this study is to evaluate how UCD-related neurologic injuries affect adults with one of the most common types of UCD.

NCT ID: NCT00467831 Terminated - Metabolic Disease Clinical Trials

Pilot Study of a Multi-Drug Regimen for Severe Pulmonary Fibrosis in Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome

Start date: April 2007
Phase: Phase 1/Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

This study will examine whether five drugs (pravastatin, Losartan, Zileuton, N-acetylcysteine and erythromycin) used together can slow the course of pulmonary fibrosis (scarring of the lung tissue) in patients with Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome (HPS). Patients with this disease have decreased skin color (albinism), bleeding problems, and sometimes colon problems. Two of the known types of Hermansky Pudlak syndrome, type 1 and type 4, are at high risk of pulmonary fibrosis between the ages of 30 and 50. Patients 18 to 70 years of age who have Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome with a serious loss of lung function due to pulmonary fibrosis may be eligible for this study. Participants begin taking pravastatin on study day 2 and start a new drug every 3 days. Patients who experience no problems with the medicines return home and continue on the drugs for the next 2 years. They return to the NIH Clinical Center every 3 months for a medical history, physical examination, and blood, urine and lung function tests. CT and bone density scans are done every year. The study may continue for up to 3 years.

NCT ID: NCT00464529 Completed - Clinical trials for Glucose Metabolism Disorders

Accuracy and Safety of Real Time Continuous Glucose Monitoring Before, During and After Surgery

GluContinu
Start date: May 2007
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

The purpose of this study is to determine the safety and accuracy of the Real-Time Continuous Glucose monitoring System (RT-CGMS)in measuring glucose in patients scheduled for surgery; before, during and after surgery.

NCT ID: NCT00446264 Completed - Type 1 Diabetes Clinical Trials

Islet Allotransplantation With Steroid Free Immunosuppression

Start date: May 2003
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The restoration of endogenous insulin secretion carries significant hopes for shifting the paradigm of life long exogenous insulin therapy in selected groups of patients with type 1 diabetes(T1D). After decades of frustrating clinical attempts, the Edmonton group set up in 2000 new standards for islet transplantation in patients with brittle T1D by achieving insulin independence in 80 percent of patients. These seminal results have however proved much more difficult to duplicate than initially expected. This single center phase 2 clinical trial, duplicating the Edmonton protocol, is designed for confirming the consistent short term efficacy and safety of sequential islet allotransplantation with steroid free immunosuppression in patients with severe T1D.

NCT ID: NCT00387166 Completed - Hypertension Clinical Trials

Socioeconomic Status, Psychosocial Factors, and CVD Risk in Mexican-American Women

Start date: October 2006
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in American women, claiming on average 40% of all female deaths each year. Although the number of CVD-related deaths in the United States has decreased over the last several decades, the rate of decline has been less for women than for men. Specifically, minority women of low socioeconomic status make up a disproportionately high number of CVD cases and related deaths. Previous studies suggest that, in addition to many other variables, psychosocial variables may contribute to ethnic CVD disparities. More research, however, is needed to help understand and reduce these differences. This study will examine the associations among socioeconomic status, psychological and social factors, CVD biomarkers, and CVD in Mexican-American women.

NCT ID: NCT00387114 Terminated - Oxidative Stress Clinical Trials

Effect of an Anti-Oxidant Treatment on Resistin Serum Levels.A Randomized Study

Start date: June 2005
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The aim of the present study was to evaluate whether an in vivo treatment with an antioxidant vitamin (vitamin C) might substantially affect serum levels of resistin, a recently described adipokine, whose clinical significance is still controversial in humans.

NCT ID: NCT00362323 Completed - Clinical trials for Dyslipidemia/Glucose Metabolism Disorder

Fenofibrate and Metformin Fixed Combination vs Metformin - FAME METFO

Start date: October 2006
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

To demonstrate in patients with T2DM and dyslipidemia not appropriately controlled with a statin and receiving metformin, the superiority of a fixed combination of fenofibrate and metformin vs metformin alone on TG and additionally, if the superiority on TG is established, to demonstrate the superiority on HDL-C

NCT ID: NCT00362180 Completed - Clinical trials for Hypercholesterolemia

Measure Liver Fat Content After ISIS 301012 (Mipomersen) Administration

Start date: July 2006
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

This study will assess what, if any, effect that ISIS 301012 (mipomersen) has on liver triglyceride content in multiple groups of subjects with varying degrees of risk for hepatic steatosis. In order to enroll subject groups with varying degrees of risk, the study has included multiple cohorts (Cohorts A-G). Additions and removal of cohorts has been accomplished with protocol amendments.
