The Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging Study on the Processing of Acute Pain and Cognition Among Perimenopause Women

There lacks effective early screen system for the migraine-susceptible women during the peri-menopause period. The processing of acute pain and cognition as well as the underling functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) features are suitable for screening pain-susceptible individual. However, there is no study on this issue among the large sample peri-menopause women. The investigators thus designed the current trial to investigate the processing of acute pain and cognition as well as the underling featured functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).The investigators will combine pain behavior,cognitive task, fMRI analysis, psychophysiological interaction (PPI) and suitable statistical package to investigate the relationship between the above mentioned features and the occurrence of migraine and then test the efficacy of these features in predicting migraine development. The investigators will then try to establish the screening system for migraine-susceptible individuals in peri-menopause women.

Lacto-ovo-vegetarian Diet Riched in Omega-3 Fatty Acids in Menopausal Women

Healthy lifestyle, based on healthy diet and exercise, is a key factor to prevent the most common menopausal disorders and chronic diseases to which women are more exposed during this life stage. Therefore, menopausal women may represent a target for evaluating the effectiveness of nutritional intervention studies based on protective diets against the common metabolic diseases, such as metabolic syndrome, obesity and hepatic steatosis. Lipidomics aims to study the lipid molecules in a "dynamic" way and allows to define not only structure and functions of a set of lipid species present in an organism, but also the changes that occur during cell metabolism under physiological and pathological conditions in order to understand their role as part of the complex functional balance of a living organism. Quantitative and qualitative determination of fatty acids profiles in cell membranes allows to follow their molecular changes occurring for intrinsic and extrinsic metabolic causes, such as inflammation, stress, nutrition. Scientific evidence has shown that, for nutritional studies, the most representative cell is the erythrocyte, which is a biomarker of an individual's general state of health. In fact, the evaluation of the fatty acid composition contained in the membrane of red blood cell, which has an half-life of four months, allows to follow the nutritional status of a subject and to acquire information about his eating habits, with special reference to fat consumption. The higher intake of omega-3 fatty acids is associated with a decreased inflammatory state which is often altered in patients with metabolic diseases, hepatic steatosis and obesity. Overweight or obese women in menopause for at least 12 months, aged between 45 and 68 years, will be submitted at baseline to blood samples for lipidomic profile, blood tests, medical examination with blood pressure and anthropometric measurements (weight, height, waist and hip circumferences), indirect calorimetry and bioimpedentiometry. Participants will be randomly assigned to diet with extra virgin olive oil (LoVE DIET) or to diet riched in omega-3 fatty acids (LωVE DIET) for four months. During the treatment period, women enrolled will undergo medical examination and dietary control to assess the adherence to the dietary pattern, collecting anthropometric measurements, indirect calorimetry and bioimpedentiometry after 4 and 16 weeks as well as blood samples after 16 weeks. The results will be analyzed using appropriate statistical tests. All patients will be made to sign an informed consent.

Bone Health in Aging HIV Infected Women

Design: Open-label randomised multicenter international strategic trial of older women on combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) containing tenofovir-emtricitabine (TDF/FTC) with HIV RNA suppression for > 6 months to : 1. Immediate switch of TDF/FTC to tenofovir alafenamide-emtricitabine (TAF/FTC) while continuing the third antiretroviral agent.; 2. Delayed switch; with switch of TDF/FTC to TAF/FTC at 48 weeks while continuing the third agent. Follow up of all subjects to 96 weeks. Subject Population: The anticipated sample size is 128 HIV infected women aged 45-55 years (peri or early post menopause). . Primary endpoint: Percentage change from baseline bone mineral density (BMD) at the lumbar spine at weeks 48 and 96. Secondary Endpoints: BMD change at hip, trabecular bone score, estimated bone strength by high resolution peripheral quantitative computerized tomography (HR-pQCT), muscle quality, geriatric assessment; biomarkers of bone, immune activation and inflammation; HIV viral suppression; safety, lipid and renal function, cardiovascular risk scores at weeks 48 and 96. Expected Outcomes: To determine if a switch from TDF/FTC to TAF?FTC improves BMD to a degree correlating with a decreased risk of fragility fracture in aging HIV infected women. Secondary outcomes will assess bone strength using new imaging modalities, timing of switch, and renal health. This data will be used by health policy makers and providers to determine the proper use of TAF/FTC in the aging HIV population.

The aim of this study is to investigate the most effective dose of Carduus marianus in centesimal scale (6cH, 12cH, 30cH, placebo) plus diet and exercise for reducing hypertriglyceridemia and/or hypercholesterolemia in climacteric women.

As a natural part of the menopause the ovaries production of sex hormones declines. This can lead to different menopausal related symptoms. About two-thirds of postmenopausal women experience hot flushes and 10-20% find these hot flushes very stressful. The aim of this study is to determine and evaluate the efficacy of acupuncture on menopausal symptoms; in particular hot flushes. The study will be a randomized controlled trial. Primary outcome is change in hot flushes. Secondary outcome is change in other menopausal related symptoms.
