Filter by:Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is an effective or even the only way to cure blood malignant diseases. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is a serious early complication of allo-HSCT. Its high incidence and poor prognosis can cause a series of terminal organ diseases such as CMV pneumonia, encephalitis, and enteritis, which seriously affecting the prognosis of patients post allo-HSCT. Our data show that rapid reconstruction of NK cells after transplantation can reduce the incidence of CMV infection. Patients with a rapid reconstruction of NKG2C after transplantation have a low CMV infection rate, and patients with strong secretion of IFN-gamma of NK after transplantation have low CMV infection. Our previous research showed that trophoblast cells transfected with IL-21 and 4-1BBL can achieve a large number of clinical-grade expansion of NK cells (mIL-21 / 4-1BBL NK cells), and mIL-21 / 4-1BBL NK cells It is safe to treat patients with minimal residual disease (MRD) positive AML after transplantation, and can induce MRD to turn negative. Previous studies have shown that adoptive infusion of expanded NK cells after haplotype transplantation is safe and can improve the functional reconstruction of NK cells. Therefore, we hypothesized that the infusion of NK cells can improve the antiviral capacity of NK cells, thereby effectively reducing the CMV infection. Incidence.
People nowadays tend to have irregular diet and routine due to the stress at work. This condition may cause intestinal microflora imbalance, and in the long term may lead to constipation, diarrhea, gastroenteritis, gastric ulcer and other gastrointestinal diseases. Helicobacter pylori infection, which can trigger gastrointestinal inflammation and ulcer, is commonly treated by antibiotics. This treatment, however, can reduce the diversity of the intestinal microflora, causing diarrhea, flatulence and nausea. Clinical trials showed that probiotics and prebiotics supplementation could regulate gastrointestinal function, including alleviating constipation, ameliorating antibiotic-associated diarrhea and flatulence, enhancing the effect of H. pylori treatment, and restoring the balance of intestinal microflora. This Probiotics product is a supplement containing several types of probiotics and prebiotics which has been marketed for years. This project aims to observe the effectiveness of Probiotics product consumption by H. pylori-infected patients in relieving the gastrointestinal symptoms and restoring their intestinal microflora.
In December 2019 a new kind of virus was identified in China as the responsible of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and interstitial pneumonia. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) quickly spread around the world and in February 2020 became a pandemia in Europe. No pharmacological treatment is actually licensed for the SARS-CoV2 infection and at the current state of art there is a lack of data about the clinical management of the coronavirus 2019 disease (COVID-19). The aim of this observational study is to collect the data and the outcomes of COVID-19 patients admitted in the H. Sacco Respiratory Unit treated according to the Standard Operating Procedures and the Good Clinical Practice.
It is not known in the literature how much sonication affects the patient's treatment. Another important issue is that the place of this method in diagnosis is not clear. The aim of this study is to contribute to the literature on this issue and to determine the sensitivity and specificity of sonication prospectively using the new definition and effect of sonication on the treatment strategy in terms of infection in patients with PJI.
The consortium will develop a new in vitro diagnostic (IVD) test to screen donated blood for bloodborne infectious pathogens, saving blood banks time and costs required for analysis of mandatory pathogens. The IVD test is a multiplex immunoassay that simultaneously screens for six bloodborne infectious diseases per blood sample. In this project, a mix of diagnostic protein markers will be developed and validated to lowdown an IVD test ready for commercial scale-up and CE-IVD certification.
Prospective, multi-center, randomized controlled trial studying infection rate with or without prophylactic antibiotics at the time of closed reduction and percutaneous pinning of pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures.
Vaginal infection in early pregnancy is associated with an increased risk of spontaneous preterm delivery and late miscarriage. Most studies presume that vaginal infections are responsible for up to 40% of preterm birth. Although the causative microorganisms of vaginal infections are manifold, the three pathogens most commonly associated with vaginal infections are Gardnerella vaginalis, Candida albicans and Trichomonas vaginalis. The aim of this prospective study is the validation of the point-of-care tests OSOM BVBLUE for bacterial vaginosis and SavvyCheck Vaginal Yeast Test for candidosis in comparison to Gram stain.
This study evaluates the efficacy and safety of an individualized preventive strategy against CMV infection in CMV seropositive heart transplant patients based on the specific basal response of the lymphocytes againts CMV (ELISPOT Interferon-γ assay). In two thirds of the patients a preventive strategy will be carried out based on the result of the ELISPOT IFN-γ assay and in one third of the patients the standard of care strategy will be carried out (universal prophylaxis).
In December 2019, viral pneumonia caused by a novel beta-coronavirus (Covid-19) broke out in Wuhan, China. Some patients rapidly progressed and suffered severe acute respiratory failure and died, making it imperative to develop a safe and effective vaccine to treat and prevent severe Covid-19 pneumonia. Based on detailed analysis of the viral genome and search for potential immunogenic targets, a synthetic minigene has been engineered based on conserved domains of the viral structural proteins and a polyprotein protease. The infection of Covid-19 is mediated through binding of the Spike protein to the ACEII receptor, and the viral replication depends on molecular mechanisms of all of these viral proteins. This trial proposes to develop and test innovative Covid-19 minigenes engineered based on multiple viral genes, using an efficient lentiviral vector system (NHP/TYF) to express viral proteins and immune modulatory genes to modify dendritic cells (DCs) and to activate T cells. In this study, the safety and efficacy of this LV vaccine (LV-SMENP) will be investigated.
In adult HIV-positive patients, data on the safety and immunogenicity of the quadrivalent HPV (qHPV) vaccine have been reported with excellent results (13 14); also, the results of a clinical trial of qHPV vaccine conducted in seropositive patients older than 36 years (WLHIV and MSM) have been published. Even now, there is not a trial about immunogenicity and safety of a 9-valent human papillomavirus vaccine in HIV-positive women; for this reason, the investigators plan to conduct this clinical trial. HYPOTHESYS: The administration of Nonavalent HPV vaccine (HPV-9) in adult women living with HIV will produce antibodies against nine genotypes of HPV, thus preventing the acquisition of new infections by those genotypes. Besides, this will prevent the cervical and anal dysplasia in these women.
