Filter by:The goal of this study [type of study: clinical trial] is to was planned to investigate the effect of motor imagery training given to geriatric individuals with action observation on their balance performance and to compare these two methods. The main questions it aims to answer are: 1. Is virtual reality-based balance training given together with action observation and motor imagery for six weeks in geriatric individuals more effective in improving static balance than virtual reality-based balance training given alone? 2. Is virtual reality-based balance training given together with action observation and motor imagery for six weeks in geriatric individuals more effective in improving dynamic balance than virtual reality-based balance training given alone? 3. Is virtual reality-based balance training given together with motor imagery for six weeks in geriatric individuals more effective in increasing balance confidence than virtual reality-based balance training given alone? 46 geriatric individuals will be randomized into 2 groups. Along with action observation, motor imagery training and virtual reality-based balance training will be given to the study group. On the other hand, only virtual reality-based balance training will be given to the control group. All assessments will be repeated before and after the trainings. The trainings will be applied 2 days a week for 6 weeks. Each training session; 25 minutes for the control group and 45 minutes for the study group.
The goal of the clinical trial is to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of physical training for elderly cancer patients at risk of cancer cachexia. The main questions it aims to answer are: - Whether a physical training program is feasible in elderly cancer patients with cachexia? - What is the efficacy of a physical training program in reducing the severity of cancer cachexia in elderly cancer patients? Participants will receive a 12-week supervised patient-tailored intensity-modulated physical training and being assessed for the severity of cancer cachexia before and after the training.

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the feasibility of introducing, implementing, and integrating a brief, existent elder mistreatment screening tool (the National Collaboratory to Address Elder Mistreatment (NCAEM)'s Elder Mistreatment - Screening And Response Tool (EM-SART) Pre-Screen) in the Memorial Herman Hospital (MHH)-Texas Medical Center (TMC)Acute Care of Elders(ACE) (MHH-TMC ACE) unit and to identify older adults who may already be suffering from abuse, neglect, and/or financial exploitation, as well as connecting the study participants to the primary Geriatric Medicine team on the ACE unit such that additional care, evaluation (including additional in-depth mistreatment screening), and intervention can be taken to prevent and minimize further harm prior to discharge. The investigators hope to reduce missed opportunities for mistreatment detection to lead to safer health outcomes and hospital discharges.
In Reunion Island, people encounter environmental and social conditions leading to premature ageing and subsequent frailty. The study evaluates tools, supported by the latest scientific advances in "machine learning" to detect, identify and measure frailty in order to give health professionals the means to act early through preventive actions.
Currently, there is evidence that structured care within the healthcare system increases the conditions for good care and better recovery. We want to investigate whether a new care concept (gero-ERAT) that combines two variants of structured care can improve the recovery of elderly patients affected by a physical trauma. Our hope is that the project will reduce the complications, short care times, fewer re-admissions and that more patients can return to regular living, which reduces the suffering for the patient and his relatives. In addition to patient benefit, a successful outcome will also result in reduced costs for healthcare and society as a whole. The concept of care is based on an increased patient participation, which is in line with the values of the Västra Götaland region and the Sahlgrenska university hospital Through the PhD project, four studies will be published. A qualitative interview study to investigate patients' experiences of care and recovery after trauma. After that, a prospective cohort survey of two groups is carried out; conventional care and gero-ERAT. Data will begin to be collected in the control group and when the control group is full geroRATAT will be implemented in the care department and we then collect data in the intervention group. Based on collected data, we will publish two additional studies one with a focus on health economics as well as one focusing on care time and recovery based on age and harvest estimation.
Purpose Frailty and multi-morbidity have been associated with increased pressure on Emergency Departments (ED), higher hospital admissions and more risks for patients arising from the ED stay. The advantages of developing specific attention to frailty in ED have been highlighted. The benefits of these approaches are related to patients but also to organizations. The aim is to present how a Program of Care for Frailty (PCF) in an ED impacts on patient health and flows. Objective is to analyze the clinical impact of Comprehensive Geriatric Care (CGA) in the Emergency Department (ED) and on patient flows Setting: A tertiary, teaching, 550-bed urban hospital, with 80,000 adult patients/year ED attendances (43%≥65 years). Two periods are compared: First period (before CGA implantation) del 01/04/2016 - 15/04/2016 and second period (after) 01/04/2017 - 15/04/2017
The overlap of depression and delirium as geriatric syndromes present in elderly patients with hospital admission due to hip fracture has been previously studied. Nevertheless, the relationships between these two clinical processes and other geriatric syndromes, especially malnutrition, have not been studied. For this reason, a prospective cohort study has been designed to know the differences in the incidence of geriatric syndromes during hospital admission due to hip fracture in patients with and without risk of malnutrition.
Older patients account for around 10% of the population, of which 57% have a long-term illness, and 33% were admitted in the past year. Geriatric assessment (GA) is a multidimensional assessment of general health status that can help identifying deficiencies and followed by a personalized care plan. Assessment and management of elderly patients is a daily concern for the general practitioner (GP) but conflicting results have been reported so far relating to the clinical impact of GA when applied in the primary care setting. This study protocol aims to assess the effect on morbi-mortality of a complex intervention in patients aged ≥70 years with chronic conditions in primary care. It aims to demonstrate that a GA adapted to primary care, followed by a personalized care plan and combined with successful interprofessional collaboration can improve clinically relevant outcomes in elderly patients with chronic conditions such as one-year overall mortality, unplanned hospital admission, emergency visits, or institutionalization. The CEPIA study will also help addressing the issue of whether an improved benefit could be achieved from a systematic nurse-led or a case-by-case GP-led GA.
